Thank you all for your sympathies and well wishes on the loss of out cat. It's astounding what a hole pets can leave in our lives. I keep expecting to see him, or hear him--he was really a loud meow-er!! But that not the point of this message.
I asked about my meds for TN and occipital neuralgia. I'm taking the max of Lyrica (300 mg, though some places have the max as 450 and some say 300) and a smaller (compared to the max) dose of gabapentin (900 mg).
Hi I was taking 2400 mg. at bed time for 10 years and it wasn't doing anything for me and so I began to taper off gabapentin and experienced a god awful withdrawal, my Doctor had no advise as to how to properly taper and so I did on line research and found your post and a couple of other posts suggesting that I might have a magnesium defieciency and decided to check out some of the magnesium supplements available one of them was (ionic-fizz Magnesium plus) I was stuck at 1200 mg.
The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts).
Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose.
I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Thank you for posting this. I used Gabapentin briefly for nerve pain caused by my crippled back. It definitely made me feel 'high'. It also made me very 'shaky' and irritable. I quit taking it after about a week. Anyone who uses this drug to stave off wds needs to be very careful. Congrats on your time off of the vics, and good luck to you on your journey off the Gabapentin.
It’s tough because without Adequan, she’s in so much joint pain and can hardly walk. She’s already on ~600-900mg of Gabapentin daily for pain. I just really want to find a medication that controls these side effects for her. Cerenia isn’t working for the vomiting, I’m hoping there’s something else! I have calls put into all her specialists and I’ve been checking forums, but I can’t find any stories of anyone else having such awful reactions after being on it for so long.
Good morning. I slept all night again. That's just crazy! I swear this gabapentin is magic! I also took an ambien. Slept for 8 hours. I feel like crap when I'm up, but at least I'm sleeping. Only 50 hours in. It makes a ton if difference. Maybe its good karma for fighting going back on these things. Whatever it is I'll take it. Ok day 3 let's get this over with!
A couple days ago I increased my Carbamazapine as I was getting tired of waiting for Gabapentin to have a noticable effect on the pain. My neurologist is hesitant to prescribe Tileptal (Oxcarbazapine).
My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
My dog 13yo Boxer began experiencing cluster seizures. Initially given phenobarbital. Major bad reaction & seizures stopped. They came back about month later. First given Gabapentin. Seizures increased. Now he's on levetiracetam & seizures has subsided. Side effect has been increased sedation and loss of appetite. I need to given his next set of meds but concerned to give him another 750mg on an empty stomach. He barely ate for his 2nd round od meds this afternoon.

I love pit bulls and for the most part they are great dogs with kids, but when they make you nervous about your kids, its best to get rid of them instead of waiting to see if he will harm your baby. I had two pit bulls and one was the sweetest thing you had ever seen. He only got mean when someone was being violent in front of him or he didn't know you. He loved kids and other dogs. The other one was horribly mean. She hated everyone except for me. And hated other animals.
I became addicted to oxycodone 15mg in 2012 after my first back surgery, obviously I was on them while I was in the hospital for 7days after surgery then took them for about 4 days once I got home. I tried to stop and became sick and realized I was addicted. I go to a pain clinic for my chronic pain. Since then I had surgery on my elbow and just 2 weeks ago I had another back surgery. My oxycodone has never been upped in dosage so of course it doesn't help with the pain.
Hi, so I've been using gabapentin for withdrawal from hydromorphone. I used the hydromorphone to get off of fentanyl which Id been addicted to for 2 years. So I badly tapered of the hydro, and have been self medicating with gabapentin to nullify my withdrawal symptoms (about 2400mg 2x a day is what I've found at this point works best after establishing a tolerance).
m really concerned about right now is introducing the baby to the pets. I have two cats and a dog. The dog is very protective, so I think she will be ok, and my younger cat is pretty laid back. But my older cat tried to reject the other two animals when they came home. It took six months to have her in the same room as the dog without attacking. I'm not sure how she's going to react to baby, but my family has been warned...
I have two 30lbs cat thatvr currently sleeping in the bassinet. No point in me telling them no when im not around theyll go in anyways lol i just let them do as they please.
She went from sleeping through the night and behaving to being up all night and crying for no reason. I believe its because of the baby... We ended up having to give her to someone else it got so bad. We live in an apartment and couldn't keep her acting out like that.... I miss her so much...
I've always been a huge animal lover! My cat and dog have been like my children for years now. This is my first pregnancy, and in about 3 and a half months, I'll birth two baby girls. My boyfriend wants me to get rid of my animals beforehand. This is extremely hard for me. I mean, I want to compromise, but at the same time, I know that it'll be hard to afford twins and pets. Has anyone else had to make that ultimate sacrifice?
