Gabapentin for nausea

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin for nausea

neurontin

Avatar m tn A couple days ago I increased my Carbamazapine as I was getting tired of waiting for Gabapentin to have a noticable effect on the pain. My neurologist is hesitant to prescribe Tileptal (Oxcarbazapine).
Avatar n tn I am a 50 yr old male. I was prescribed Gabapentin for neurological pain management by the VAMC in Tampa, Florida. According to some post I've read, Gabapentin is a med that one must be weened off of. I've been taking Gabapentin off and on to help with pain so I can sleep. I don't take it all the time because of the side effects. Sometimes, but not all the time, I feel like I'm having a bad hangover after the medication wears off.
Avatar f tn Hello, everyone! I am a 16-year-old girl and I take gabapentin for nerve pain (we think...) My neurologist gave me a perscription for 1800 mg per day. The other day, I went to a Christmas party and left the gabapentin at home, so I missed a dose. I got a horrible stomach ache that night and was miserable. The next day, I took the medicine, and the stomach aches are gone. i also have gotten weird vision problems when I accidentally miss a dose.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I also applaud Gabapentin (neurontin) it works well for me also but does take some tapering or getting used to, I should say
Avatar n tn Not to say gabapentin is side effect free but the only annoying side effect I had with gabapentin was a sore throat that persisted for 2-3 weeks and then went away. However, others have experienced dizziness on gabapentin. With both meds, the dose is slowly ramped up to a therapeutic amount. Typically, you are prescribed 1 capsule on the first day, 2 on the second day, and so on and so forth. This minimizes the side effects.
Avatar m tn gabapentin is for my MS. At any rate 30 min. Later, all vitals returned to normal. Should I tell my PCP?
Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
Avatar f tn Ryan, you and I touched base quite sometime back. I was taking Gabapentin for anxiety which wasn't doing any good. Since then I have changed psychiatrist. She has put me on Klonipin I am now up to .05 in the am and .25 in the pm, seems to be helping, but still am having some anxiety issues. She says that I cannot stay on this long term which I feel bad about as I have had little to no side effects. She says that it's not good for long term use.
Avatar f tn Well, have not had the gallbladder removed. The specialist I have been seeing at Stanford is not too concerned about the gallbladder, which she feels may being caused by all the GI issues, which she is focusing on now. I hate taking medication and can often be reluctant to do so. After 2+ weeks! the Amitiza was nit helping the constipation so I was advised to use 24 mcg twice a day.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Avatar m tn Have you tried gabapentin for your epilepsy it's also works for anxiety. I currently take it for my anxiety and it works very well I take 300mgs 3-times a day. Maybe that will help. Good luck!!
335728 tn?1331414412 I then lurched (and I mean lurched) to the bathroom and was able to find a Gravol for the incredible nausea I as having. I then made my way to my bed and sat there for about 15 minutes before I felt stable enough to take my regular bedtime meds. The vertigo didn't really stop until about 2:30 a.m. and I was then able to go to sleep. When I got up this a.m. I was really weak and shaky. I am still feeling pretty foggy now and it's 3:30 in the afternoon!
Avatar f tn Thank you for posting this. I used Gabapentin briefly for nerve pain caused by my crippled back. It definitely made me feel 'high'. It also made me very 'shaky' and irritable. I quit taking it after about a week. Anyone who uses this drug to stave off wds needs to be very careful. Congrats on your time off of the vics, and good luck to you on your journey off the Gabapentin.
1359227 tn?1282522148 Now I have unexplained full body nerve pain and it brings the pain down from a 10 to a 6 on most days and my dose is slowly being raised, so I suspect I will soon be relieved of the full body nerve pain. Thankfully gabapentin is the generic for neurontin, so if your pharmacy gives you the generic and you have decent insurance, you're only out a couple of bucks and a few days of pain if it doesn't work for you and then you can just try something else.
Avatar f tn Good morning. I slept all night again. That's just crazy! I swear this gabapentin is magic! I also took an ambien. Slept for 8 hours. I feel like crap when I'm up, but at least I'm sleeping. Only 50 hours in. It makes a ton if difference. Maybe its good karma for fighting going back on these things. Whatever it is I'll take it. Ok day 3 let's get this over with!
974371 tn?1424653129 t near as bad so I assume that is due to the Gabapentin. So, I am really not much better except for decreased nausea. I hate taking these drugs. If I knew fir sure having the gallbladder out would help me feel better, I would do it!! The thought if possibly being worse has kept me from that decision.
2034625 tn?1392643292 A few weeks ago at 11 am I was having some TN pain, and discovered I had not taken my 8 am meds, which includes 300mg Gabapentin. I am convinced Gabapentin works for me, and I am at the correct dosage...for now. If your Doc had ever experienced TN he would not postpone a prescription to treat it, guaranteed!
Avatar n tn The side effects from the medications were also very bad, although I was grateful for any relief from the extreme pain. I have been seen at the neurological centre and have had an MRI scan to determine if there was a vessel crossing over the Trigeminal nerve, which could be causing the pain attack. This has just come back as negative which leaves me wondering what happens now.... Do I wait for another episode of pain? am I supposed to pretend it did not happen? What can I do to prevent it?
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
Avatar f tn i am taking ganapentin for diabetic neuropathy and i am wondering if i can take my valacyclovir with it does it have any problems if i take it together??
Avatar f tn I became addicted to oxycodone 15mg in 2012 after my first back surgery, obviously I was on them while I was in the hospital for 7days after surgery then took them for about 4 days once I got home. I tried to stop and became sick and realized I was addicted. I go to a pain clinic for my chronic pain. Since then I had surgery on my elbow and just 2 weeks ago I had another back surgery. My oxycodone has never been upped in dosage so of course it doesn't help with the pain.
Avatar f tn Hi, so I've been using gabapentin for withdrawal from hydromorphone. I used the hydromorphone to get off of fentanyl which Id been addicted to for 2 years. So I badly tapered of the hydro, and have been self medicating with gabapentin to nullify my withdrawal symptoms (about 2400mg 2x a day is what I've found at this point works best after establishing a tolerance).
Avatar f tn ve been taking it for two years, and I also started out on Lyrica, but becuz of cost I had to switch. Neurontin has only been around for about 15 years, so for at least for that length of time you're good. The only normal wierdness I know about is withdrawals, so you have to taper slowly over several weeks' time. I should think if this medicine is fogging up your day to where it bothers you or you cannot get used to it, your doc may need to switch to a different pain reliever.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm wondering if it is safe for me to take Gabapentin for withdrawal symptoms from methadone? I read somewhere that the gaba is sometimes prescribed for that. I have never taken it before in my life and got a hold of a few 300mg capsules the other day. I have been into opiates off and on for about 8 years, getting pretty bad into them this past year. I think it is alot mental with me though. I started off on Perc 5's and 10's, graduating to oxy 30's about a year ago.
