4186651 tn?1357830957 Has anyone else taken Gabapentin for all of these pains neuralgia migraines? I'm petrified to take this drug because of all the bad side affects! Did it help or harm anyone? Or should I wait to see the NS first before I take it?
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone help me please?
974371 tn?1424653129 Has anyone taken this for IBS? Saw a doctor at Stanford yesterday fir a second opinion. I had been tested by another specialist I had rapid gastric emptying and was put on Prozac and low dose Clonidine. Can't say I noticed much of a difference in lower abdominal pain, bloating, stomach pain and nausea.
Avatar f tn I saw a Nurologist today who prescribed Gabapentin for Degenerative disc Disease. I was informed that surgery was out of the question because it was over a large area, wasn't very helpful and didn't really expalin why i was prescribed it. i was also prescribed amitriptyline for the night time.
1179332 tn?1297478990 Hi Carolyn...I was put on Gabapentin by the sleep clinic dr I went to see and I informed him of my IBS/GERD issues which he felt would not be an issue with this med....HOWEVER, it was and is even listed as a side effect......so, do be advised ne one that has IBS or GERD get it calm and then keep a close eye on how this is affecting u.....it also did not help with my sleep issues.I did have the fog but I did not get the rest I needed and continued to feel fitgued.
1699346 tn?1306931126 I used Neurotin for nerve pain in the past. It was very helpful. Good luck and thanks for the compliments.
620923 tn?1452915648 My 29 year old daughter who has EDS and Chiari has been on Gabapentin for pain since the spring and it seems to be helping although the dosage has been increased a few times. She was previously on Lyrica but the cost and side effects caused her to change. I've corresponded with another woman in B.C. who has both EDS and Chiari and she swears by Lyrica.
974371 tn?1424653129 Have heard everything from delayed motility, treated for SIBO and IBS. Tried many meds most of which made me sicker, reacted to or did nothing. My GI dic has pretty much given up. Problem is, I am still sick every day. I pretty much live on daily Alprazolam, Pepto Bismol, Pepcid and Omeprazole and Gas-X on and off. Take Tigan when needed, which does little. Wake up every morning between 4:30.
Avatar f tn this med does not work for anxiety, it can make it worse. i was on it for 2 months and could'nt sleep, eat and my anxiety was throught the roof. it really sounds like you need a different med. that nurse shoud'nt have treated you that way. take care.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I also applaud Gabapentin (neurontin) it works well for me also but does take some tapering or getting used to, I should say
Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Avatar f tn I haven't seen a neuro. I am trying to find one. I have an appointment with a vein doctor. The rheum said the blue legs/feet are not fibro. I am hearing impaired, born without half of my hearing and have always had tinnus. I have always had allergies and ibs. I'm on gabapentin, celexa, serquil, flexeral, and adderol. So far I'm feeling better, but I don't know if its just a good week or the new medication gabapentin.
Avatar f tn Thank you for posting this. I used Gabapentin briefly for nerve pain caused by my crippled back. It definitely made me feel 'high'. It also made me very 'shaky' and irritable. I quit taking it after about a week. Anyone who uses this drug to stave off wds needs to be very careful. Congrats on your time off of the vics, and good luck to you on your journey off the Gabapentin.
Avatar f tn re taking any of these meds, but they kind of work against one another. Gabapentin is kind of like setting up an artificial GABA system in your body for nerve pain, and is sometimes used in conjunction with an antidepressant for anxiety. Depakote is a major targeter of your actual GABA system. If you look at the side effect profile of flexeril, it can cause all of your symptoms. So can depakote.
Avatar f tn Good morning. I slept all night again. That's just crazy! I swear this gabapentin is magic! I also took an ambien. Slept for 8 hours. I feel like crap when I'm up, but at least I'm sleeping. Only 50 hours in. It makes a ton if difference. Maybe its good karma for fighting going back on these things. Whatever it is I'll take it. Ok day 3 let's get this over with!
Avatar f tn I see my new endocrinologist for that tomorrow. Good luck with the gabapentin. I hope it works as well for you as it seems to for me.
Avatar m tn A couple days ago I increased my Carbamazapine as I was getting tired of waiting for Gabapentin to have a noticable effect on the pain. My neurologist is hesitant to prescribe Tileptal (Oxcarbazapine).
2034625 tn?1392643292 A few weeks ago at 11 am I was having some TN pain, and discovered I had not taken my 8 am meds, which includes 300mg Gabapentin. I am convinced Gabapentin works for me, and I am at the correct dosage...for now. If your Doc had ever experienced TN he would not postpone a prescription to treat it, guaranteed!
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
Avatar f tn I became addicted to oxycodone 15mg in 2012 after my first back surgery, obviously I was on them while I was in the hospital for 7days after surgery then took them for about 4 days once I got home. I tried to stop and became sick and realized I was addicted. I go to a pain clinic for my chronic pain. Since then I had surgery on my elbow and just 2 weeks ago I had another back surgery. My oxycodone has never been upped in dosage so of course it doesn't help with the pain.
Avatar f tn Hi, so I've been using gabapentin for withdrawal from hydromorphone. I used the hydromorphone to get off of fentanyl which Id been addicted to for 2 years. So I badly tapered of the hydro, and have been self medicating with gabapentin to nullify my withdrawal symptoms (about 2400mg 2x a day is what I've found at this point works best after establishing a tolerance).
