My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
I have been taking Gabapentin 100 mg for a couple of days and have had severe migraine slash sinus headache ever since. What does be from the medicine?
I have been on Gabapentin for over a year now, other than sometimes feeling tired or a little "uplifted" (I guess you can experience some euphoria sometimes)... I actually do not experience a headache with Gabapentin. In fact, it has actually helped with the chronic migraines I have. Right now, I've got something going on with TN or Bells Palsy or something and I have severe pain...
Saw a pain doctor for a back problem and he prescribed gabapentin. One dose of the pill knocked me down for a day and can't function under that med. Just feel llike this is more than a tension headache, as it never goes away. Did see ENT, had eyes checked when this all started and everything was ok there. Can't live this way so any help appreciated.
t know, she started me on nortriptyline, after being on the nortriptyline for 2 months and no change, she switched me to gabapentin, I am now taking 1200mg 3 times a day. Some days I notice a difference, other days no change at all. My Neurologist said to stay on it and it should be helping. About 3 months ago the same type of pain started on the left side of my neck, about 1.
In the ER we are no longer allowed to give narcotics for migraines or headaches...its a cocktail of different meds and most leave headache free. I would hold out on jumping into opiates....last resort. Long term use, dependence, tolerance the way they mess up your endocrine system...nasty. So many men end up having low T at young ages and having to get testosterone injections as a direct result of opiates. Just my 2 cents. But that is what the doc is thinking....
My husband 44 years old and healthy but over weight has had a bad headache every day non stop for 7 months now. It all started when he fell into a 10 foot empty swimming pool. He didnt hit or hurt his head or neck area but took the impact on his hip area which only briused him Since that day he has had a non stop headache on the right side near temple area.
The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts).
Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
Due to brain damage from surgery I have temporal lob seizures I was put on gabapentin and depression occurred. I am looking for something that would control the seizures without depression. Help with any idea! Thanks
Would Dilatin help with this type of seizure?
Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose.
I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
He admits that not all of my symptoms seem migrainous, but most do. Note that my bad headache symptoms are basically gone, perhaps this is due to the Gabapentin I am taking.
Since my health is not improving, I feel like I should try something else (e.g., this DHE study or antibiotics in the event that I do have a bacterial infection). Naturally, I am concerned about doing more damage than good by any therapy.
Thank you for posting this. I used Gabapentin briefly for nerve pain caused by my crippled back. It definitely made me feel 'high'. It also made me very 'shaky' and irritable. I quit taking it after about a week. Anyone who uses this drug to stave off wds needs to be very careful. Congrats on your time off of the vics, and good luck to you on your journey off the Gabapentin.
t call it a headache does feel swollen on the left side no fever but the pain is constant and I have been prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain 300mg any advices would be helpful thanks waiting till tomorrow to go to the doctors
