Avatar f tn I already take amitriptyline for my stomach, and gabapentin for neuropathy. Will any of the drugs you listed mix weird with what i'm taking? And how do I go about asking for the option of medication? Can I come right out and say "I'm interested in this medication I heard about" or...? Because last time I was told there was nothing to do about ET, to just live with it, so now I'm definately interested. Thank you so much again!
Avatar f tn i have cervical dystonia and was diganosed at one time with essential tremor, but my is painful and essential tremor is not. i have been on thyroid medication for 10 years now due to having thyroid removed many years ago due to thyroid cancer. i can tell you that is doesnt make you have tremors. try to find a muscle disorder doctor that can give you motor skill tests and they can determine on what you have. i havent heard of essential tremors being related to dementia.
Avatar n tn t aggravate tremors and so your feeling of increased head shaking cannot be attributed to Inderal. For a person with an essential tremor, the starting dose of Inderal is 40 mg twice a day. Based on the tremor response and/or Inderal side effects, your healthcare provider may increase or decrease the Inderal dosage. Hence, the dose you are taking is suboptimum and may not be of any benefit in your tremor.
Avatar f tn i also have essential tremor that started in my hands but us now my whole body my legs are weak and shakybut when i rest they subside
Avatar f tn I have had an essential tremor since the age of 20 i am now 37years old, it affects my whole body, head hands legs as well as an unsteady gait. I have seen numerous nurologists and have been on several meds i have even gone as far as trying botox injections in my head and neck, they have gotten so bad that they are starting to affect my daily activites not only at work but at home, I am a mother of 2 children a 6yr old and a 4 yr old.
Avatar n tn My neurologist has diagnosed me with Essential Tremor and Cervical Spondylosis (with some osteophytes). When I turn my head to the right it tremors quite noticeably. When my head faces to the front the tremors are not as noticeable. This began about 2 months ago and I am a 49 year old female. Does one have anything to do with the other? Will the tremor get worse? He suggested Botox in the back of the neck to stop the tremors.
Avatar f tn Hello Dear, Most people with essential tremor don't need treatment beyond reassurance that the condition isn't a sign of a more serious disease. Lifestyle changes — which include getting plenty of rest and avoiding stressful situations and stimulants such as caffeine — may help ease the tremors. Most people with essential tremor find that fatigue, anxiety, sleep deprivation and even temperature extremes make their tremors worse.
Avatar f tn These tremors are contant when doing fine motor skills - Essential Tremor--I have had them since the age of 4. My Dr. was at Childrens Memorial in Chicago but he has retired.
Avatar m tn I am a professional violinist and recently developed an essential tremor in my bow arm which interferes greatly with my playing. My neurologist tried primidone but it has helped only a little. I asked if he could put me on Inderal which I understand can help with essential tremor. However -- the doctor pointed out that I am already on lisinopril (for hypertension) which, he claimed, ALSO is effective in treating essential tremor.
Avatar n tn I think if you're asking about an essential tremor it would be more directly involved with the nerves to the spinal cord. I guess you could trace each tooth nerve to its main nerve and then trace that main nerve back to the brain. Then you would have to see what that part of the body that part of the brain also affects. It could be quite lengthy with no guarantee that it would be correct, but I guess you could try.
Avatar n tn I've had tinnitus and benign essential tremor for over twenty years and have tried everything both alopathic and alternative. Finally after having a vasectomy and being given an opiate I realized that it calmed the noise in my head and stopped the tremor. Before that I was drinking heavily and my doctor prescribed hydrocodone which was compounded to avoid additives. I took that for about three years.
Avatar f tn After a few months the limpness and the stagger in my leg went away and only the tremor remained and I was diagnosed with essential tremor. But it was never characteristic of essential tremor rather it was always an inconsistent tic. The tic has gotten slightly worse over the years (I am now 18) and has more or less moved it has become less evident in my hands and now lies mainly in my torso, lower neck, shoulder and head and barely noticeable in my hands and arms.
Avatar n tn Saw on WEB MD it's likely not Parkinson's... this is from their site: "Essential tremor differs from the tremor caused by Parkinson's disease in the following ways: Essential tremor may affect the head and voice. Head tremor is uncommon in early Parkinson's disease. Essential tremor is almost always worse when the affected part of the body is in motion than when it is at rest.
Avatar m tn //www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/essential-tremor/symptoms-causes/syc-20350534 You don't mention your age but it is important to note that it becomes more and more common after the age of 40. They do have several medication types that are used to help control tremors. Are they talking about anythign like this yet for you? This link is about Parkinson's Disease specifically. https://www.mayoclinic.
444922 tn?1205098764 Hello. There is a new test developed by researchers ( Dr Rubio and associates) in Australia, specifically designed to screen for Parkinson's disease. It is a genetic test and screens a number of genes for Parkinson's disease. There is also a good evidence of association between Parkinson's disease and Essential tremors. Essential Tremor is considered to be a risk factor for Parkinson's disease.
Avatar f tn When essential tremor (ET) significantly interferes with daily activities, long-term drug treatment is needed. Drugs most commonly used to treat essential tremor include beta-blockers (propranolol) and an epilepsy drug called Mysoline (primidone). Topamax (topiramate), another drug used to treat epilepsy and migraine help some people.
Avatar m tn Women are more likely to develop the head tremor than are men.Other types of tremor may also occur, including postural tremor of the outstretched arms, intentional tremor of the arms and rest tremor in the arms. a variety of non-motor features have recently been linked with ET. These include anxiety and depressive symptoms as well as cognitive difficulty. Recent studies have demonstrated that late-onset ET (onset > age 65) may be associated with an increased risk of developing dementia.
660872 tn?1238641245 Thanks so much for the answer. I am already on meds for essential tremor (propanolol) but I wasn't sure if the head movement thing was essential tremor or not. No one in my fathers family have this head thing (except my Dad). Thanks again.
Avatar n tn I have had essential tremors in both hands for over thirty years, but lately my tremors are in a resting posture. The movement is in my right hand for now. I will call my doctor for an appointment to get some insight on this new problem. I just need some information, if essential tremors take on Parkinson symptoms? Please advise.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if others who have been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation have also been previously diagnosed with Essential Tremor? I have had Essential Tremor since I was 12 years old, diagnosed in my 30s and was just diagnosed with Chiari Malformation this year at 53 years old. I also have IBS and have been loosely diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I am suspicious that the Chiari Malformation is the cause of all these other issues, as well as being hereditary.
231441 tn?1333892766 The tremor thing is confusing, as terms are used differently depending on who's doing the talking or writing. The way I understand it (could be wrong--gasp!), intention tremors can be essential. If you hold out your arm to do something and it shakes, that's intention. If there is no sinister cause for this, then maybe the tremor is essential, if there is, that's another kettle of fish. I don't think the resting kind are essential. That is often associated with Parkinsons .
Avatar f tn I have essential hand tremors and on medications for years I was told I'm maxed out on my meds meaning the Doctor cant up boost my what I take per day, I'm only 53 years old and I cant control or stop the tremor I cant write, drink from a cup and I'm not to wild about having the DBS surgery so any ideas would be nice to hear. Now I may lose another job because I cant do the writing.
Avatar m tn I was a heavy smoker for 2 to 3 years.Once the tremor went out of control I have almost quit smoking.now Iam just an occasional smoker. The tremor has subsided after quitting but Iam its enough to cause embarassment in social situations.Any body out there with similar conditions and suggestions?
