9472198 tn?1556168148 Hello al! I have type II diabetes, which I see a doctor for. I no longer need meds for this, as I keep my diet in check & exercise daily. My blood sugar levels are within normal range now. My problem: I have a painful rash on my buttocks {butt crack actually LOL} for about 2 months & my doc sent me to a dermatologist. He recommended beta/clom ointment & I have used it every day after thorough cleansing....as well as alternating with triple antibiotic cream.
Avatar n tn I was taking Gabapentin 300 mg for extreme nerve pain in my foot, it worked like magic for approx. 3 months then stopped being effective. Any Thoughts - Reasons?
Avatar m tn diabetes, B12 deficiency etc., internist sent me for NCV test. The doc who performed the test found neuropathy in legs and recommended MRI of brain and cervical spine. Brain MRI showed lesions but my doc did not think this indicative of MS. She sent me for lumbar MRI. Nothing significant showed on that to explain foot problems. By now pain had been so bad I could hardly walk at times. Then it would ease up a bit. Numbness, paresthesias and fasciculations driving me mad.
Avatar f tn Most burning feet treatments focus on preventing further nerve damage and reducing pain. This is probably why the doctor prescribed the Gabapentin, I believe it is for relief of pain due to nerve damage. Here is a link that might be of some help: https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/burning-feet-causes-treatments#1 Have you been checked for diabetes?
Avatar m tn Thanks for responding. My dad has never really had his diabetes under control, due to lack of trying, but right now he is at a point where he basicly just lays in bed in pain all day, and when he does get up he usually falls so my mom has been helping him out of bed to go to the bathroom. He is really weak. His Dr. has him on Diclofenac 75mg 2 per day, Hydralazine 25mg 3 per day, Lovastatin 40mg 1 tab at bed time, Gabapentin 800mg 4 per day, Carvedilol 12.
Avatar m tn Check with a neurologist after eliminating simple causes like tight shoes. Treatment would be according to the cause. Drugs like amitryptiline, gabapentin, gabapentin etc may be required. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn TSH is normal, doctor now told me that to stop all vitamin supplements and only take gabapentin 300 mg three tablets a day for 30 days. but I read this are just anticonvulsants for pain. I am still suffering from the peripheral neuropathy. I tested all the tests but still there is no clue what exactly happened. earier doctor told me that it wil be irritable bowel syndrome. pls help me out otherwiise I will sucide.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I also applaud Gabapentin (neurontin) it works well for me also but does take some tapering or getting used to, I should say
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is first-line therapy for neuropathic pain. This review article provides an overview of current treatment and future therapeutic approaches: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
393986 tn?1303825975 Finally, I was precribed gabapentin. Within a couple hours the pain was gone. Gabapentin is for nuerologic pain. For me it was a god send. I think I would have done myself in by now otherwise. It is a very inexpensive drug as well.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Avatar m tn Neuropathy is nerve damage and from what I was told, no, it will not go away. I currently take an extremely high dose of Gabapentin, which helps for the most part. For me, I have it worse in my legs and even more so in my feet. At night, especially while in bed my feet hurt so badly, which is weird bc I also have the pins and needles. I would contact your Dr to see what they suggest. You may be able to prevent the neuropathy from getting worse by keeping your sugars under control.

Avatar n tn husband was just switched from mobic to gabapentin for nueropathy symptoms he suffers from, he now is having extremely low glucose readings some don't even register on his meter. We need to know if it could be interaction between it and other meds he takes. Currently he takes humilin N&R, levoxyl, prevacid, and mild dose aspirin.
Avatar f tn Thank you for posting this. I used Gabapentin briefly for nerve pain caused by my crippled back. It definitely made me feel 'high'. It also made me very 'shaky' and irritable. I quit taking it after about a week. Anyone who uses this drug to stave off wds needs to be very careful. Congrats on your time off of the vics, and good luck to you on your journey off the Gabapentin.
1207048 tn?1282174304 have you talked to your Neuro and do you have any meds for these symptoms...such as Gabapentin?? That might help...ask your GP or Neuro for something to help with these symptoms.... when you don't walk properly, it will effect your hips and they will feel knotted up etc.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for your response. I am on Gabapentin for the neuropathy, Prilosec for reflux and Fenofibrate for high cholesterol. If I stop taking one of these to see if it is causing the side effects, how long before I would notice an improvement?
Avatar f tn Good morning. I slept all night again. That's just crazy! I swear this gabapentin is magic! I also took an ambien. Slept for 8 hours. I feel like crap when I'm up, but at least I'm sleeping. Only 50 hours in. It makes a ton if difference. Maybe its good karma for fighting going back on these things. Whatever it is I'll take it. Ok day 3 let's get this over with!
Avatar m tn A couple days ago I increased my Carbamazapine as I was getting tired of waiting for Gabapentin to have a noticable effect on the pain. My neurologist is hesitant to prescribe Tileptal (Oxcarbazapine).
2034625 tn?1392643292 A few weeks ago at 11 am I was having some TN pain, and discovered I had not taken my 8 am meds, which includes 300mg Gabapentin. I am convinced Gabapentin works for me, and I am at the correct dosage...for now. If your Doc had ever experienced TN he would not postpone a prescription to treat it, guaranteed!
