Avatar f tn Although many medical conditions can cause burning feet, diabetes is the most common. Most burning feet treatments focus on preventing further nerve damage and reducing pain. This is probably why the doctor prescribed the Gabapentin, I believe it is for relief of pain due to nerve damage. Here is a link that might be of some help: https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/burning-feet-causes-treatments#1 Have you been checked for diabetes?
Avatar n tn my husban has diabetes and recently he was having very strong tingling, burning and pain in his testicles. He went to urologist and after blood tests, ultrasound atc.. doctor presribed him gabapentin, telling him that he has pudental nerve damage... no infection, everything is clean, just NEUROPATHY. when he takes that drug he becomes numb and painfree, but is this the only solution to this problem?
Avatar n tn Gabapentin and Lyrica are in the same class of anti-convulsants and have similar actions. However their side-effect profiles may differ somewhat. If you are finding that the side-effects with gabapentin are tolerable then it would probably be best to increase the dose under doctor's advice. There is a long way upwards that you may go with the dose before reaching the upper limit, as Jason80 points out.
Avatar m tn I have type 2 diabetes and severe neuropathy..Neuropathy is nerve damage and from what I was told, no, it will not go away. I currently take an extremely high dose of Gabapentin, which helps for the most part. For me, I have it worse in my legs and even more so in my feet. At night, especially while in bed my feet hurt so badly, which is weird bc I also have the pins and needles. I would contact your Dr to see what they suggest.
18432675 tn?1464832893 Hil All I can say is that memory problems come from the brain, a part of the central nervous system, and so are not connected to peripheral issues. I've taken far more gabapentin than your dosage for many years without memory lapses, but what happens to me is not necessarily what happens to you. I suggest you wean yourself off this med and see whether the problem persists. If it doesn't, then gabapentin was likely the culprit.
Avatar m tn Check with a neurologist after eliminating simple causes like tight shoes. Treatment would be according to the cause. Drugs like amitryptiline, gabapentin, gabapentin etc may be required. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms sure sound like nerve damage, maybe myasthenia gravis, maybe diabetes. cold weather really has an effect on Neuropathy, I have it from diabetes, and take Gabapentin, which I think is a generic version of your nerve meds. I take 400mg, a big dose, and it helps. I have congestive heart failure and swelling of the legs, which affects the nerves as well. Try cutting back on salt, lose at least ten pounds, and see if that helps. I don't understand your last question.
Avatar n tn vitamin b12 value was 19800 which was quite high and that is due to vitamin supliments and injections. I am having abdominal pain , numbness and tingling in the hand and feet. I lost weight around 3 kgs. X ray report of chest and stomach is normal, ultra sonography of stomach was also normal. other all blood reports are normal. Serum folate is 16.6 ng/ml. TSH is normal, doctor now told me that to stop all vitamin supplements and only take gabapentin 300 mg three tablets a day for 30 days.

Avatar f tn I have diabetes neuropathy my feet hurt all the time I also have neuropathy in my arms I take Gabapentin. Is there anything else I can take other medicines and is the pain in my feet going to last a lifetime its been two years now and my feet feel like dried up leather.
393986 tn?1303825975 The mechanism by which Gabapentin exerts its anticonvulsant action is unknown, but in animal test systems designed to detect anticonvulsant activity, Gabapentin prevents seizures as do other marketed anticonvulsants. Gabapentin exhibits antiseizure activity in mice and rats in both the maximal electroshock and pentylenetetrazole seizure models and other preclinical models (e.g., strains with genetic epilepsy, etc.). The relevance of these models to human epilepsy is not known.
Avatar f tn ve currently been diagnosed with Neuropathy. I take Lexapro for depression. They added Elavil and Gabapentin to try to alleviate my symptoms. Here goes the fun part, my symptoms. All opinions are welcome and MS does run in my family. I'm a 29 year old female. Right sided pain, numbness, tingling My limbs feel as though they weigh 10x's what they actually do. Strange sharp pains in my neck. Electrical jolt pains throughout my right side.
233622 tn?1279334905 ve been on trileptal, topomax, lamotrigene, keppra, gabapentin(neurontin) and lyrica. Side effects made me stop the first three, a suspected side effect stopped me from taking the keppra, though we know now that it wasn't the med (my facial sensory stuff), I have only been given the last two for nerve pain. My neuro put me on gabapentin (neurontin), to work on my seizures, and the rib pain (which was the first neuropathic pain my gp recognized).
Avatar f tn Gabapentin (Neurontin) can cause fatigue, somnolence and dizziness. As Remar said Gabapentin is generally cleared by the renal system and rarely - if at all effects the liver. Vicodin (Hydrocodone) an opiate - can also cause some "sluggish" and sleepy-like symptoms, especially as it's effects begin to wear off.
Avatar f tn I began taking Gabapentin for the electricity and muscle spasms in my legs. My initial dose was 100 mg at bedtime. Now, I am up to 100 mg 3 times daily. It has helped greatly, but recently I have been having some break-through spasms. I do not recall having had any "vibrations" from the medication itself.
Avatar m tn diagnosed stroke 2/08/2010 hospitalized for 8 days, diabetes and high blood pressure found at this time. being treated. numbness as call it is left side arm, leg. face , i have complete use of all these, just the numbness. is there anything that i can do to get this seemingly back to normal or close to .
Avatar m tn Well, without a detailed description of the symptoms or a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation. Diabetes may be associated with increased susceptibility to infections and reduced healing power and in a few cases may be associated with neuropathy and decreased vascularity that could lead to the formation of a diabetic ulcer.
Avatar n tn So any info from people who live with diabetes is more useful than a doctors observations at times. And thanks for your reply.
Avatar f tn I have taken gabapentin and xanax for 10+ years without problems. Xanax is a shorter acting benzodiazapine then librium. You may find you need less librium with gabapentin.
Avatar f tn My neurologist has me on 800 mg of Gabapentin per day to help with the tingling and burning sensations, which helps some, but not a lot.
Avatar m tn I have cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic pain and depression due to all I am going through. I take the following meds each day: Gabapentin 12 x 300mg Hydromorph 2 x 4.5 mg Percocet 8 x 5mg Amitryptaline 3 x 25 mg Cymbalta 90 mg Amlodipine 5 mg My pain is constant and I am having a hard time dealing with everything. I don't know how much longer I can deal with all this..sometimes I think about suicide so I won't be a burden to my family having to deal with me.
Avatar f tn My skin is nob in my back and when it flames up it really hurts.
Avatar f tn My neuro did basically nothing to help me get answers and relief. He gave me a prescription for Rebif and jacked my Gabapentin up and said see you in 3 months. The visit to him left me frustrated and seeking more help. I have no where near the problems you are having to deal with and I would hope that your visit (when you finally get it cuz Dec is just insane!!!) gives you some solid answers and a feeling of comfort about what you are dealing with. Even if you are able to travel possibly?
