Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin capsules

neurontin

Avatar n tn What I forget to ask is what time of day/night it is best to take the Gabapentin capsules. My RLS is (was) bad in the evenings & through the night. Perhaps I need to be on these for a few days to get the full effects - I can't sleep tonight hence my searching the interweb for any help or advice.
Avatar n tn This definitely sounds like Per. Neuropathy. I have it, too. Neurontin (Gabapentin) is the ONLY drug that makes mine bearable. I currently take two 350mg capsules, four times per day. I have a very bad case of the disease, which is common in diabetics and alcoholics. Since I am neither, my Neurologists think mine may be autoimmune related.
Avatar f tn I am supposed to start taking two 100 mg capsules of Gabapentin at bedtime for the continuing head to toe pain since tx three years ago, and am wondering what to expect. If anyone has tried it for pain I'd like to hear about it.
Avatar m tn My wife Doreen has been prescribed Gabapentin to control this bile duct pain. After reading the info. leaflet she is hesitant to take these capsules. Can anyone advise. thankyou.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm wondering if it is safe for me to take Gabapentin for withdrawal symptoms from methadone? I read somewhere that the gaba is sometimes prescribed for that. I have never taken it before in my life and got a hold of a few 300mg capsules the other day. I have been into opiates off and on for about 8 years, getting pretty bad into them this past year. I think it is alot mental with me though. I started off on Perc 5's and 10's, graduating to oxy 30's about a year ago.
620048 tn?1358018235 I am still having a hard time with gabapentin..I am suppose to take one capsule 300 mg, 4 times a day....well. I take 3 or 4 ...but always 3 at night and sometimes one earlier. I am suppose to spread them out but they make me sleepy during the day. How do others take the dosages? and do you just get used to them over time? I am being very difficult with this one...so unlike me !
Avatar n tn I actually slept through for two nights in a row. The drugs name is Gabapentin. It makes you sleepy so it is taken at bed time. They have me on 300mg capsules and I take 1-2 at bedtime. My cat was finally able to lay on my upper leg last night and I didn't have to throw her off. So I would suggest this medication. I don't know what other medications your on so be sure to check for interactions with this drug with the others you may be taken.
Avatar f tn m not sure if branded Neurontin pills are different from the generic gabapentin pills. I take gabapentin and they are indeed giant. I'm maxed out at 3600mg/day. This is divided into 1200mg doses, morning noon and night. I don't seem to have any side effects, for which I'm grateful.
733362 tn?1489794936 Went to a GP Doc and he prescribed Gabapentin. He wants me to take 300mg 3x a day but it has side effects too, mostly bothers my stomach and I don't like the way I feel on it the next day. Hard to explain exactly how it makes me feel. Since I had 90 of them and don't have prescription coverage I started breaking the capsules apart and putting 1/2 in capsules the same size from the health food store we got for taking Bulk Tumeric (herb for pain).
293157 tn?1285873439 You know, sometimes I don't think I have a brain... I'm on gabapentin, started it up again a week ago and my GP wants me to take 1, then 2, then 3 so far..up the dose till I feel it helps. well, I started taking the 1 a day 300 mg... after a week I took 2 a day... but I started to feel so tired, and dizzy, not vertigo, just lightheaded and had to sleep. I also got the runs... night and through the day. I thought to myself what if this is a side effect.
Avatar f tn capsules 3 times a day, then the next week go up to 6-300 capsules (2-3 times a day), then the next week 9 capsules per day ( 3-300mg, capsules per day). I had never taken it before, and when the Pain Management Dr. told me that I might start walking into walls!, (which I forgot to even TELL the pharmecist!),he told me I may not want to go that high! Well, I was afraid to even start the regimen, so only took it one time, and got so sleepy, I stopped.
Avatar n tn I had gastric bypass surgery 14 years ago and have lost 140#. Needless to say I have may of the dificiencies that go along with it. A recent physical indicated that my liver emzymes are elevated to about double the normal range. This is the first time I have ever had this issue. I' m curious if it could be due to the medications I am taking or if it might be wine or the possile combination of both.
172023 tn?1334672284 If you are a self pay patient, you know how expensive Neurontin (gabapentin) is. My dosage is 600mg twice a day. CVS wanted $218 for a thirty day supply (60 tablets, 600mg each). Walmart wanted $110. But get this...the curious pharmacy tech looked up the price of 300mg capsules....$13 for a thirty day supply, 300mg, two capsules twice a day (equals one 600mg tab taken twice a day). Can you freaking believe that???? $110 for the 600mg, $13 for 300mg.
Avatar f tn I am at 3 capsules (100mg each) so 300 mg at bedtime daily from what I am reading therapeutic levels are a significantly higher dose, and is usually also taken during the day as well. Is this correct or no? It also seems that if I happen to fall asleep and miss a dose, I definitely notice it the next day. Has that been the experience of others when they miss a dose?
Avatar f tn I have been taking Unisom for 1 1/2 years now. I take 3 gel capsules (50mg each) every night before bed. I need to stop because I’m assuming it can’t be good for me. However, when I had tried to stop in the past or missed a pill I get really sick the next day. Fever, chills, servere headache. Thinking of going to the Dr soon but wanted to post here too. I’m not sure if I should quit cold turkey or slowly taper off.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if it is ok to release the medicine out of capsules and mix the medicine up in juice? I have a problem swallowing pills and was not sure if this was an option????
Avatar f tn I shared my experience with gabapentin not too long ago. Please forgive me for using copy-paste-revise editing to respond here. It’s odd - with some drugs (like our DMDs) it's a universal dose. Take it all or not at all. With others it seems there is a great deal of variability in how sensitive people are. Gabapentin apparently fits into that category. It has worked well for me but I had to increase it VERY, verrrry slowly.
Avatar f tn This pain has really taken a turn for the worse. In fact, all my sx have gotten worse over the last week. (I tried to do a heel-to-toe walk last night, because I thought my walking was getting worse, and I would have fallen down if there hadn't been a wall close by to grab onto.) I've upped the gabapentin per neuro's orders, but it doesn't seem to be helping. The scary part is, from what I've read, the pain can really get much worse than this.
Avatar f tn I was on 300 mg capsules 4x/day, then the neuro-ophthalmologist changed it to 400 mg capsules 3x/day. Same manufacturer. Go figure. I have enough trouble remembering those 3, so I'll take it and give thanks. Peace & blessings.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed vitamin d 5000 units and Gabapentin 300mg Capsules. Pain has reduced but numbness and disorientation still there. My hands also go completely numb periodically. Had an eye exam and further testing on my vision. Nothing explained the double vision. All tests to include spinal tap and EMG show normal. The strange thing is my legs felt great after the EMG, they usually feel like 100 pounds each. My skin also feels on fire.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am new to this group. I have had more than 85 blood tests since I was diagnosed with Lyme in July of 2014. All have been negative. I have been on may drugs for pain and currently on Gabapentin for vocal cord/coughing issues and leg pain (knee, calf, left side back). I don't think it is helping much. Is anyone else on Gabapentin?
