751951 tn?1406632863 After she stopped taking Gabapentin, the tinnitus slowly went away, and is now completely gone. I thought I'd mention that just in case it's a factor in your tinnitus or could become one later. I have it, too, but it's not nearly as bad as yours. I'm hoping it's just due to my anemia and goes away as the iron infusions continue.
Avatar m tn I took only two doses which made me disoriented, caused my mouth to get very dry, produced sores in my mouth, and the tinnitus I already had jumped higher. What do I do now? I plan to ask to be lowered to 100 mgs. of gabapentin to see if the side effects could be dealt with. I don't want to get back on lyrica. For fibromyalgia I also take xanax and hydrocodone. Things were at least okay, with pain levels and fibro manifestations to deal with, but nothing like this hell.
Avatar n tn I've had tinnitus and benign essential tremor for over twenty years and have tried everything both alopathic and alternative. Finally after having a vasectomy and being given an opiate I realized that it calmed the noise in my head and stopped the tremor. Before that I was drinking heavily and my doctor prescribed hydrocodone which was compounded to avoid additives. I took that for about three years.
Avatar f tn The persistent phantom smells and tinnitus are often inter-linked and caused by certain brain lesions involving the frontal lobe. This could be the reason for the persistence of the symptoms even after surgery. The symptoms can be managed by anti-epileptic drugs such as gabapentin and anti-depressants such as amytryptaline. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn Couple of days later visual snow, shaky vision, afterimages, trouble seeing movement, halos, starbursts, flashes of light, dry eyes, recurrent episcleritis, trails and of course tinnitus. Last year I was diagnosed with Neuroboreliosis and received two treatments already .... both made my visual disturbances more intense. I saw a neuro-ophthalmologist last week who thinks that all my visual problems are actually a very rare side effect of general anaesthesia ... is that possible?

Avatar n tn I have had a thyroid issue for 9 years and I have dealt with Tinnitus on and off throughout. Last night I woke up with major ringing in my left ear and I would say a 25% loss in hearing. I went to the doctor this morning they do believe it may be caused by the Thyroid since I am way off still on my labwork results. Also, I do notice and I don't know if this is part of it but when I drink alcohol I tend to get the ringing that night and last night I had a glass of wine while out.

Avatar n tn What you PROBABLY have is a bad case of tinnitus. Tinnitus is the ringing you're hearing and it is associated with loss of hearing, depression, and sleep disturbances. The pain is probably caused by hyperacusis, which is another condition that sometimes comes with tinnitus and makes you very sensitive to noise. There is no "cure" for tinnitus, but there are treatments. Eating healthy, exercising, keeping busy, and reducing stress can help.

1930941 tn?1400107522 If you are really desperate, I read an article on the internet written by a person who has researched tinnitus for a LONG time..tried drugs and surgery...and finally came up with a holistic approach and says he/she(?) is cured. There are lots of other testimonies from other tinnitus sufferers on that web site....but of course, when you are selling something....you have to read with a lot of discretion. Just thought you might want to at least have a looksie....
Avatar f tn I worked for a non-profit for 7 years that serviced hard of hearing and deaf persons. Tinnitus was something we dealt with and it was non-reversible. HOWEVER. A number of the conditions we experience on treatment seem to reverse when the drugs stop. As in nygirl's situation, I hope the same for you. What I'm thinking is that it's yet another reason to keep hgb up in reasonable numbers. That's what I'm thinking, anyway.

From the time of the initial worsening, they estimated 3 yrs for all the nerve damage to be complete.
