gabapentin and swelling

I saw a neurosurgeon yesterday who moved me off Meloxicam and Amitriptyline to Gabapentin. I had started to notice swelling of my face a couple of days ago. I told him that my face was swollen and he said all TN patients think they are swollen but they are not. I had him press on the swollen area on my face and he felt the swelling but said that was unusual. My question is has anyone experienced severe swelling of the face and above the gums?

I spent 21 days in the hospital the first week I do not remember much of between the detoxing from alcholol and other severe problems resuting from my drinking and I did not think I was a heavy drinker 3 to5 drinks a day about 8oz. of vodka . well I lived now I stoped drinking but have serious side effects weakness in legs arms and the dreaded neuropathy in my feet! which leaves me in constant pain and I am not diabetic. Right now my stomack is swelling back up I do not know why .

Hi, I am on 3000 mg. of Gabapentin now too, and I'm finding it does not seem to help the pain and spasms in my legs. I am also on Baclofen, and tried Zanaflex but coudl not tolerate the Zanaflex., even at a small dose. The Baclofen seems to help with spacisity, but not the pain, so we still have the stiffness and pain, and that ICE COLD feeling that we get in the calf muslcles of my legs. Why are you going off the Gabapentin?

Not the swelling but yes, I hate the stinging! I couldn't function on gabapentin and it didn't stop the pain. I use Amitripylene. Seems to work for me and the dosage can be adjusted quite high. Talk to your doctor though incase this might be a new symptom of something else. Good Luck!

I also had weight gain on lyrica and gabapentin. The awful taste and sores in my mouth, as well as the heartburn and other stomach issues that I had while on the topomax helped with the weight gain because eating was the last thing I wanted to do.

I have pain in my temple nerves, knot on lower left jaw, swelling on both cheeks, lower lip and chin is numbed after extraction. Dentist just say wait, but I can’t bear pain in my lower front 5 teeth’s, and dentist doesn’t care to do anything. I am on ibprufen 800 3 times a day, already completed antibiotic and steroid dosage for last 2 weeks, but no improvement. Still can’t open mouth much to eat proper food and feels pain 24 by 7. Any suggestions?

He used Atenlol and various other tablets suggested by ESI for blood pressure and NeurokindG (Gabapentin and Mecobalamin Tablets) for his disc problem. Now his legs started swelling, he feels that because of those tablets which he took earlier his legs started swelling.The work which he does also is by standing and by bending.His weight also increased by 10kgs in a span of 1Year,now he is 90kgs and his age is 46.

Thank you for all your input. It is great to have so much support in here. I am on 1200mgs. of the Gabapentin.... and I can't exercise much either, with a bum right let, and a frozen left shoulder it is to good to exercise. I do hope that soon I can start to do something.... but the fatigue is also overwhelming too. I have just been disgnosed, and already in the secondary progressive phase... they feel that I have had this for some time now....

Based on fact that pain is simulataneously symmetric left/right, both arms/legs, and there's no swelling, discoloration, or tenderness (see characteristics list above), the four (4) physicians I have consulted have chosen not to check me for dvt. Will continue consulting physician for hypothyroid (Armour, etc.) into '09 and see what develops.

BTW, I have almost no swelling in my leg and I haven't seen swelling accompany the rednes. In addition to the toes turning in, I am noticing a "needles and pins" feeling in my left foot. Thanks again!

I recently Been Back to My GP and He is slowly with drawing the Gabapentin as it may had contributed to the swelling of my feet, He hoping that might of been the cause. I do have a Kidney problem, My last visit in hospital was related to my Kidneys at First they thought it was a heart problem, but found that my kidney were dehyrated (how that was I dont know?) As I drink lots of water as I'm on the Water Pill for fluid retention.

Is this type pain nornal after a stroke? What can I do about the pain and swelling. My leg feels cold and I can't stand for even my cat to rub on my leg. I also have RA is this making the stroke pain? I am so tired of this pain, I am losing it.

For the first few days my pain, tingling, numbless and burning went away. They are now back and more severe than prior to the Solumedrol regime. Is this normal? I actually believe I was on the verge of a flare up prior to starting the Solumedrol and believe I am now in a full blown flare up. I am seeing my Neuro tomorrow and I'm wondering if he will suggest another round of the drug.

Since upping my dose of Gabapentin to 1600mg daily for Neuropathy and Migraines I am retaining fluid and I have to push to pee. I am drinking lots and lots of water to counteract the swelling but wonder what the having to push to pee means.

I have diabetes neuropathy my feet hurt all the time I also have neuropathy in my arms I take Gabapentin. Is there anything else I can take other medicines and is the pain in my feet going to last a lifetime its been two years now and my feet feel like dried up leather.

Please help! I had a biopsy on my lower shin 4 weeks ago. The biopsy came back as granuloma annular, which is benign, but....I have other problems now. Since the day that I had the biopsy, the top of my foot and my ankle has been very swollen. It is HUGE! I can't wear any shoes and it is very painful. The physician that did the biopsy says that he hopes the problem will be resolved. My family physician says that this is a nerve issue called RSD. I am SO confused and upset!

m going to be on Gabapentin for the rest of my life and the numbness even at its best is still very distracting and honestly *****.

I began taking Gabapentin for the electricity and muscle spasms in my legs. My initial dose was 100 mg at bedtime. Now, I am up to 100 mg 3 times daily. It has helped greatly, but recently I have been having some break-through spasms. I do not recall having had any "vibrations" from the medication itself.

I came off Gabapentin about 2 weeks ago and I was on 600 mg gabapentin and am now on 175mg Lyrica. The jury is still out on the weight gain issue as it is too early for me to be able to monitor any changes. However I am not very pleased to see that grannyhotwheels thinks lyrrica is the worst. I may end up reassessing this change but will give it a few months first.

I have taken gabapentin and xanax for 10+ years without problems. Xanax is a shorter acting benzodiazapine then librium. You may find you need less librium with gabapentin.

alot of your numbness and lack of movement in your toes may be due to swelling. That being said, I had basically the same fractures with a few extras 16 months ago and still have some numbness and quite enough pain.I am now waiting for surgery #3 to remove hardware in hopes that will give some relief. My understanding of nerve damage is either it is permanent or will take a long time for it to correct itself.

Hi, This is my first post as I'm new here. I'm 39 year old male, living in the UK. I have numbness, tingling, restricted movement and neuropathic pain in my left leg for some time now and on the worst days have to use a wheelchair as I cannot weight bear on this leg due to the pain. DR's have ruled out DVT and Lymphodema, as there is some swelling but that was thought to be secondary to neurological problems.

I had a migraine new to me about a month ago went to a neurologist he prescribed meythpredislone 21 pack and after that was completed he prescribed neurotin gabapentin which I am very afraid of taken but I started taken 1 before I go to bed. Why did the neurologist prescribed that if it was just for headaches?
