Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin and kidneys

neurontin

Avatar f tn my neuro stated me on this, and every time i stop taking it due to the "dopy" feeling. so now, i'm trying it again, 100-300mg at night, to see if it helps with pain. i think it is helping my sleep a little deeper, though not longer. however, here i sit, feeling so "out of it", that i really don't feel like doing anything, although i want to go do something because it is such a lovely day out. i'll probably stop this med AGAIN, due to this side effect.
Avatar n tn I would talk with your doctor and tell him/her about you being a recovering alcoholic. Switching up addictions is very common and those vicodin will grab you by the short hairs and take you down....
Avatar f tn I always thought Tylenol hurts liver and kidneys and aspirin/ibuprofen/naproxen hurts the stomach. I thought naproxen was in the group that hurt the stomach and stomach lining but, now, I'm confused because I stopped taking it and now the pain in my kidney seems to be letting up. Anyone else have this problem?
Avatar f tn Since upping my dose of Gabapentin to 1600mg daily for Neuropathy and Migraines I am retaining fluid and I have to push to pee. I am drinking lots and lots of water to counteract the swelling but wonder what the having to push to pee means.
4340011 tn?1353122086 I have this problem again that my feet are swelling up again, around my ankles and up my legs - I was in hospital a few weeks ago - and found that my kidneys were dehydrated, I am on the fluid retention pill, and I do drink lots of water, I finding it very sore and uncomfortable to walk, I have a blood condition called Polycythaemia Vera, and is unsure wither this problem is related, or related to Fibromyalgia, do anyone have a clue, when I was last in hospital, they tested my heart and that was
Avatar m tn I am currently having weird back pain and not feeling very well. Could the drugs be making my kidneys work to hard? (Along with the gallon of diet coke I drink a day). I searched the net and found some facts on how these drugs affect your kidneys...anyone else had these problems? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Thanks. I don't work and my husband was unemployed for 2 yrs. and we went thru our 401k and maxed credit cards. Now that he has a job we probably won't qualify, but I will definitely check out this possibility. I feel guilty considering we now have an income, but on the edge of bankruptcy... Who isn't now? Thanks for the info!
Avatar f tn I began taking Gabapentin for the electricity and muscle spasms in my legs. My initial dose was 100 mg at bedtime. Now, I am up to 100 mg 3 times daily. It has helped greatly, but recently I have been having some break-through spasms. I do not recall having had any "vibrations" from the medication itself.
Avatar f tn I hope it will work for you because it is notoriously hard on the kidneys-drink lots of water- and you can gain a lot of unwanted weight from Gabapentin, even more so when you take larger amounts. You do have alternative natural options. Do not depend exclusively on prescribed medications, but don't try to wean off any meds without expert help, It could be taxing. Best wishes!
Avatar f tn I have taken gabapentin and xanax for 10+ years without problems. Xanax is a shorter acting benzodiazapine then librium. You may find you need less librium with gabapentin.
Avatar f tn I am really open to any suggestions. Or ideas ? I do have a nephorologist who I see for my kidneys and a urologist for the stones . They are working together to also look at alternative medicine but I just thought I could bring ideas to them. thank you in advance.
4705307 tn?1447970322 Hey Tim, Gabapentin is better than Hydro's and Trams for your liver. _______________________________________________________ Hepatotoxicity Limited data are available on the hepatotoxicity of gabapentin. In clinical trials in diabetic neuropathy and epilepsy, therapy with gabapentin was not associated with an increased frequency of serum aminotransferase elevations or liver toxicity.
1221035 tn?1301000508 I have urinary retention and I take Neurotin (gabapentin). I have never connected the two but Lulu advice is absolutely correct about telling your doctor about this new symptom.
1340994 tn?1374193977 I take pregabalin (Lyrica), and its cheaper cousin is gabapentin (Neurontin), and they are anti-spasm type drugs, and I found relief from my lower back pain overnight and continue to take it for several years now. Aside from medicine, one good way to relieve sciatica is to do yoga type stretching exercises, but since he has spine problems, it's best for him to ask his doc if maybe some physical therapy could be ordered for him to ease the pain.
Avatar f tn I had a migraine new to me about a month ago went to a neurologist he prescribed meythpredislone 21 pack and after that was completed he prescribed neurotin gabapentin which I am very afraid of taken but I started taken 1 before I go to bed. Why did the neurologist prescribed that if it was just for headaches?
Avatar m tn I am currently using 8mg of buprenorphine,1800mg of gabapentin and 150mg of wellbutrin daily as medicine for pain management and nerve pain. Now I'cant obtain gabapentin anymore and would like to transfer to oxycodone 120mg daily as a substitute for buprenorphine and gabapentin.I would like to know is such change possible.
Avatar m tn sciatic nerve damage. The Gabapentin works great, aside from the fact that I get brain fog and drowsiness. This drug separates me from pain, however, makes me a zombie! Does anyone know of a drug or supplement that I can take with the Gabapentin to combat the somnolence?
Avatar m tn I have Congenital nystagmus and tried gabapentin but it seemed to be making the Nystagmus worse. I started taking bupropion at the same itme, and suspect the bupropion may have interfered with the initial trial of gabapentin. I need the bupropion for the anxiety associated with Nystagmus, but I know it causes blurred vision and convergence problems. Should I even bother to try memantine? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I have tried Gabapentin, and I am currently taking Lyrica, which is a relative of Gabapentin. It does help a little, but not enough to enable me to sit down longer.
Avatar f tn we are actually healthy persons because hbv makes no damage to us, only few patients have strong immune system damaging liver and that is only the liver nothing else of the body...so tdf on hbv studies has 1% of kidneys issues on hbv carriers already having these issues before tdf start if your kidneys are fine from the start, very high creatinine clearance, you ll have no issues.
7059039 tn?1389576984 my question is though has anyone peed blood about four months after stopping coricidin, and also does any one sometimes have severe kidney pain.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin (Neurontin) can cause fatigue, somnolence and dizziness. As Remar said Gabapentin is generally cleared by the renal system and rarely - if at all effects the liver. Vicodin (Hydrocodone) an opiate - can also cause some "sluggish" and sleepy-like symptoms, especially as it's effects begin to wear off.
Avatar f tn Hey nailbox.(That's quite original) Welcome to the forum! Can't say that your case is unique, as two thirds (2/3rds) of patients on gabapentin will experience adverse effects. There may be some changes in your symptoms, better or worse, more or less, if you wish to stick with it. You may also want to look into Picamilon , made by combining a GABA derivative and Niacin which is sold as an OTC dietary supplement in the U.S.A. Not sure where you live.
Avatar f tn I'm 34 weeks and my kidneys are just killing me. I went to the bath room this morning and I had to pee so bad but it was like I was blocked off. I had a uti already with this pregnancy and I don't think that's what it is. The doc confirmed that I had got rid of it. Does anyone possibly know why my kidneys could be hurting so bad.
