I've been prescribed it by my psychiatrist for anxiety, but have so far been afraid to take it, but my situation stems from a bad reaction to stopping a medication years ago so I'm kind of at the desperation stage. She says it does help some people. So I can't give you my own experience but can tell you it is used off-label for anxiety. It's basically GABA, which is something the brain uses to produce calm and pain relief, and is what benzos target.

I soon fixed it myself, as all the different meds the psychiatrists tried me with, only made me worse with nausea added to the mix Weaned off all those before I got too addicted, and began taking gabapentin again, which solved the whole problem. I had stopped taking the Gabapentin suddenly, as I didn't have the money for it., and that is what caused the anxiety/depression. Now that is, or was under control, I cannot bear to feel this anxiety jitters and strange scared feeling again!

There are many stories out there where people abruptly quit and had a withdrawal syndrome from stopping the GABApentin. For me, that risk from taking it for a week vs the anxiety and depression from withdrawals was worth it. For some, it seems to have an amazing ability to minimize withdrawal syndromes. It did just that for me.

(granted I know she is a psychologist...and most pts. most likely see her for some sort of depression/anxiety.) Due to brain damage from surgery I have temporal lob seizures I was put on gabapentin and depression occurred. I am looking for something that would control the seizures without depression. Help with any idea! Thanks Would Dilatin help with this type of seizure?

It has now been 45 hours since my last dose of gabapentin and the withdrawals are horrible. I had to remind myself what the withdrawal symptoms of gabapentin were so I didn't think I was losing my mind. I really hope these symptoms go away soon, they are terrible. Anyone else have experience with getting off gabapentin and how long their withdrawals lasted is appreciated. I did not quit cold turkey but did have a short taper. I had to get the poison out of my body.

t doing anything for me and so I began to taper off gabapentin and experienced a god awful withdrawal, my Doctor had no advise as to how to properly taper and so I did on line research and found your post and a couple of other posts suggesting that I might have a magnesium defieciency and decided to check out some of the magnesium supplements available one of them was (ionic-fizz Magnesium plus) I was stuck at 1200 mg. gabapentin and couldn't seem to taper down any farther.

They contraindicate its use in dogs that have kidney deficits, but the only side effects are vomiting, depression, excessive sleepiness and loss of balance. None of the other medications should cause otic issues either, especially since he's not new to taking them. It sounds like your dog has possibly developed otitis externa on top of whatever he's taking the gabapentin and other medications for. Either that or he has been bitten by a spider or something.

I originally thought that the anxiety that I was experiencing was a side effect from Gabapentin and then after stopping that (tapering off) and then trying Nortriptyline (and tapering off that too). I started taking the gabapentin for neuropathic pain, but about 10 days into the medication the anxiety kicked in. It was not the first time that I had experienced anxiety as a side effect of a new medication. But, it didn't get better so I slowly tapered off.

I also feel some neuralgia in my face and pins and needles in my head. My consultant also suggested Gabapentin 100mgs twice daily increasing if necessary up to 300 mgs but I am not sure what this is for and I am not on this yet. My nerve pain is not under control at present and I am sleeping badly. I have just finished the steroids (hurragh) which I took in the morning and wondered if they would interfere with my sleep but guess I will find out now I have finished if sleep improves.

m not familiar with the medication and you may need to taper off and any time you start and stop a medication, it is best to do that with a doctor's guidance. Hi, I am on 3000 mg. of Gabapentin now too, and I'm finding it does not seem to help the pain and spasms in my legs. I am also on Baclofen, and tried Zanaflex but coudl not tolerate the Zanaflex., even at a small dose. The Baclofen seems to help with spacisity, but not the pain, so we still have the stiffness and pain, and that ICE COLD feeling that we get in the calf muslcles of my legs. Why are you going off the Gabapentin?

adel_ezz Yes, we have very similar positions - with tackling the depression, and I hope that you will get on with the gabaprentin. I asked about it (and Lyrica) and the pdoc did not think it was for me. He said that I would not be as depressed if I was not worrying about paranoid things, and that it would be better to tackle the paranoia first than the anxiety that goes after it. :( bipolar community I really am wondering whether to switch antipsychotic to something less sedating.

I am on Gabapentin and Buspar for Social Anxiety. I just started taking them 9/10/2010, Friday. My question is when I first take them I get strong suicidal thoughts for about 30 minutes. I then feel the medication kick in and I am fine. Is this common with these medications? Will it go away with time? Thank you in advance!!

I also take seroquel, lamictal, lexapro, st johns wart, l tyrosine all for depression and bipolar. Will I have serious withdrawals if I quit now? Will all my depression meds help soften the blow mentally? Anyone been ok when xeroxing off tramadol??

t working very well so I got on trintellix 10 mg for 3 weeks causes serious anxiety,OCD and lethargy and depression. I want to get back on the Zoloft I'm still taking the buspirone in the Gabapentin but it's been 3 days since I've taken the trintellix what do I do? Taper ? Switch? I just want to leave the house without fear and anxiety without the lethargy.

One is that is can increase or decrease the effects of the drugs. The other is that alcohol is a depressant and can increase depression.

I take 100 mg zoloft 100mg gabapentin and .05 mg klonopin and I have tried many other meds for my depression and anxiety. but they don't help and i am sick of trying new ones. i have lost all hope that anything can help me. so how bad is it to just stop taking them?

Try taking up a regular exercise regimen for exhausting so that you could derive some natural sleep. If these dont help, you need to be investigated for hypothyroidism, depression and fibromyalgia. Treatment would be according to the diagnosis. Take care.

I have been taking codeine for about six months now, at first it was Tylenol 3 with codeine 60mg every 4 hours and now for the last three months I've been on 600mg a day 300 in the morning then three hundred at night. Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro?
