2010625 tn?1329372056 I have tried so many medications for bipolar, and anxiety, and I seem to be very sensitive to side effects. I wonder if there is a way to live med free...... I called the pharmacist and they said it was ok for me to cut down on the gabapentin so I didn't take my morning dose, and I feel better. I take it at night too which I am still going to take at least until I can call my doctor on monday.
915369 tn?1355314810 I used gabapentin for pain and it worked quite well for that. My one friend says it is the first drug that has ever helped her bipolar. Its success rate with bipolar isn't that high, and it is almost always used with another drug. That being said for me it was side effect free so it may be worth a shot. The site crazymeds the good the bad and the funny of neurological medications (google crazy meds) has a sheet that lists gabapentin as an add on for bipolar.
1460652 tn?1340248730 I do not recommend Gabapentin, i'm currently taking it and trying to get myself off of it and I've been experiencing the worst attacks. My heart rate gets up to 130 beats and i've been on it for a year. I came across an article explaining why it isn't a good drug to take as it has bad effects to your brain. getting off it has been causing me the worst panic attacks of my life.
1039200 tn?1314912008 I suffer from bi-polar disorder herniated disks and i take gabapentin, morphine for that and triliptal for bi-polar, which they dont seem to be working as well as they used to anymore so ive asked my pharmacist what she recommends and she recommended lyrica. As you know pharmacists know way more about drugs than doctors, but I am super excited to get started on my Lyrica tomorrow!
142722 tn?1281533616 I am having mixed moods - I am manic on min and depressed the next. My bipolar has kicked in and I am going through one of my spells. I know what is happening but it is so hard to go through it. I am fine for months and then it hits me. I was up for two days -maybe sleep 3 hours each night. I am on Litmical(sp). He put me on Gabapentin and gave me lorazepam to calm me when I need it. I feel so hopeless right now.
Avatar n tn Just been taken off Gabapentin because it is also a mood stabiliser and I am already taking another stabiliser for my Bipolar. Doctor has given me Axsain cream for my foot pain, will let you know the results in a few days 'cos it takes a while to take effect.
Avatar f tn Hello! My name is Devon and I've been diagnosed with Bi polar 2, panic and anxiety disorder and ocd. I've been doing great lately until abouta week ago when I woke up one morning ( still feeling fine ) and had 4 cups of coffee throughout the morning. I ate and then decided to do a work out... During the workout I was feeling really weak so I stopped half way through and called it a day for that. I took a bath and my feelings of my body being weak just got worse.
189269 tn?1189755825 I'm on Gabapentin also (for depression... Gab's a generic Neurontin) in combo with Paxil. I never noticed itching increase when she added Gab, but was kind of 'out of it' and bipolar like at the time. I asked about the itching and the doc said it was from the treatment (Pegasys/Ribavirin) drying out my skin so much. Got some relief by using lotion (Aveno baby - no added colors or perfumes).
1039200 tn?1314912008 However the diagnosis came back loud and clear that I have bipolar and that is just that. I actually feel better about taking medication now that I know it's not 'anxiety' like my CPN suggested. However during the consultation I also found out that not only I had been given totally wrong advice by the GP who had given me wrong meds and told me to take them at wrong times, but that the two meds that I am currently on clash. One cancels the other.
1039200 tn?1314912008 Since taking seroquel for bipolar my life has slowed down enormously and I have gone from being very active to the most inactive I have ever been in my life. I lack motivation to do even the most basic things, and I have other side effects. My pdoc believes that this lack of motivation etc is depression, which I'm sure it is but he wants me to increase the seroquel substantially as he believes that it will help.
Avatar m tn On the 5th day I felt as if there was a lump in my throat and got the worst tremors in my face and the front of my neck. It has been pure hell. It has been an absolute nightmare. I am under the care of a Neurologist for the tremors. My dx is Pscychotropic Tremors from Neurotin. He said they will eventually go away, doesn't know how long it will take and I am on medication for them. I would listen to your pdoc.
Avatar f tn I also take seroquel, lamictal, lexapro, st johns wart, l tyrosine all for depression and bipolar. Will I have serious withdrawals if I quit now? Will all my depression meds help soften the blow mentally? Anyone been ok when xeroxing off tramadol??
1255505 tn?1272819115 //www.crazymeds.us/Lamictalpi.pdf, bipolar dose table on page 12) and bring them to your appointment. Your doctor might have a legitimate reason for aiming higher than the *usual* dose, but they should explain it to you in an understandable fashion.
1340994 tn?1374193977 I take pregabalin (Lyrica), and its cheaper cousin is gabapentin (Neurontin), and they are anti-spasm type drugs, and I found relief from my lower back pain overnight and continue to take it for several years now. Aside from medicine, one good way to relieve sciatica is to do yoga type stretching exercises, but since he has spine problems, it's best for him to ask his doc if maybe some physical therapy could be ordered for him to ease the pain.
Avatar f tn Thank you very much. I did take the gabapentin the first day i got it and i was very nauseous and would sway while standing and just felt weird, kind of high or dream like. I dont think i will use it again.
Avatar f tn What do mood stablizers do for people who arent bipolar...my dr is using it to get me off benzos and to help my anxiety, but just how do they help...
915369 tn?1355314810 I've been on lots of those types of medication and they didn't do anything for me.. I'm on lithium and gabapentin right now but I've read that lithium isn't that great at controlling deppresive episodes so often times people will have to take an antidepressant too. Before I was diagnosed with bipolar they kept putting me on antidepressants thinking I had depression or borderline personality and they kept driving me mad!
5101703 tn?1363720186 t sit around and worry about being bipolar and your meds. If it is possible keep yourself as busy as possible and try to develop a good network of friends or at least some recreational activities. Meds will take the edge off but believe me they are no cure and there is no cure for bipolar. It is a fact you have to except but it is not a death sentence and it can be managed. I am on Lamictal and it works for me.
1573548 tn?1330456863 I am so glad you got a new doctor. I had the same issue. I had a good doctor but then he transferred to another area and I was assigned a new doctor. I stuck with her even though I felt like she didn't take me or my pain seriously. He talked to me like I was a child. She also took away any paid meds I had to "change to something better" but I realized later she was only getting me off of all the pain meds. I ended up with nothing but 800 mg ibuprofen and otc drugs.
Avatar f tn i was diagnosed with bipolar 6 years ago after a head injury and was taking zyprexa. Soon after, I was hospitalized with pancreatitis. The doctors immediatly took me off the zyprexa. Since then I have quit all alcohol and never did take drugs. I am currently taking Lexapro, but i don't feel it is what i need. I am constantly tierd, gaining weight, have constant muscle pain, especially in my feet and legs. I still suffer from mood swings, the ups and downs.
Avatar f tn I began taking Gabapentin for the electricity and muscle spasms in my legs. My initial dose was 100 mg at bedtime. Now, I am up to 100 mg 3 times daily. It has helped greatly, but recently I have been having some break-through spasms. I do not recall having had any "vibrations" from the medication itself.
8798274 tn?1399988458 Hi, Zyprexa (olanzapine) is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. You should always follow the directions of your doctor regarding medications. Your doctor knows you and is able to take your numerous specific circumstances into consideration when deciding what medication and how much is likely appropriate for you specifically.
Avatar f tn I am on Gabapentin as a mood stablizer and have been for approx 3 months. My doctors and I chose this medication because of the benefits of pain control for my FMS as well as BPD. I also was on Lexapro for the last 4 weeks and was taken off this med yesterday due to side effects and was started on Lamictal. My question is this......these are both mood stablizers, correct?
Avatar f tn I have taken gabapentin and xanax for 10+ years without problems. Xanax is a shorter acting benzodiazapine then librium. You may find you need less librium with gabapentin.
Avatar f tn I take 100 mg zoloft 100mg gabapentin and .05 mg klonopin and I have tried many other meds for my depression and anxiety. but they don't help and i am sick of trying new ones. i have lost all hope that anything can help me. so how bad is it to just stop taking them?
4705307 tn?1447970322 Gabapentin is widely utilized currently for the chronic treatment of recalcitrant migraines, bipolar illness, pain, and epilepsy. It has a wide therapeutic index with few side effects and drug interactions, is not hepatically metabolized, and is excreted by the kidneys. Past reports have suggested that some withdrawal symptoms can present after 1-2 days upon abrupt discontinuation of gabapentin after chronic use within young to middle-aged patients.
Avatar f tn I stopped Risperdal since I'm now on another medication that is a mood stabilizer for me. I tapered off from 6mg to 3mg then 3mg every other day then stopped completely. Mood is stable, no symptoms of mental illness. Stopped Risperdal mid April. I started a period 2 weeks ago after having years of no periods or my one-day one-wipe periods (bleeding lasting only one wipe of the toilet paper) every few months. Had constant ovarian cysts.
733362 tn?1489794936 Hi, Been Valium free for 89 days and was having a hard time sleeping. Pain Doc prescribed Catapress (clonadine) and it worked for 6 hours of sleep but made my heart pound. Went to a GP Doc and he prescribed Gabapentin. He wants me to take 300mg 3x a day but it has side effects too, mostly bothers my stomach and I don't like the way I feel on it the next day. Hard to explain exactly how it makes me feel.
4534339 tn?1356040907 Its used to treat bipolar. Does anyone have a young child with bipolar that can offer me advise and does anyone know how long it takes for this medicine to get into your system? Any advise would be greatly appreciated! I'm tired of feeling like a failure because there isn't anything I Can do to help her at this point. Thanks in advance.
