450257 tn?1268347217 I found this cold shower treatment on about.com. Sounds like it may be worth a try. Here is the link to this story and more info: http://chronicfatigue.about.com/ A Cold Shower - The Latest Treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? Thursday June 5, 2008 Forget all those cliches about taking a cold shower - some researchers think that could be a way to treat chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS or ME/CFS).
554442 tn?1221238825 It's a common misconception that fibromyalgia is an inflammatory or rheumatological condition, but it is not. While researchers still have many theories about the mechanisms behind fibromyalgia, many of them now believe the condition is more neurologically based. Aleve (naproxen sodium) and ibuprofen-based drugs (Motrin, Advil) are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and are most effective against pain that accompanies inflammation.
3795221 tn?1348163075 I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My family doctor referred me to a rheumatologist who diagnosed me. I have had a lot of pain that travels in my body. I have a constant migraine and back pain. My hands and feet are numb with bursts of electricity. The Rheumatologist prescribed Flexeril, Ambien and told me to go to a psychiatrist. I made an appointment with a psychiatrist a week ago and have since researched him online.
Avatar n tn Earlier this year, my doctor ran all kinds of blood work, and said that everything looked fine. He thinks that I have Fibromyalgia (based on my tender spots). From what I have read, this is extremely rare for men to get. The muscle aches and pains are always worse in the morning and evenings and especially worse in cold weather. Recently, the doctor put me on Zanaflex, but that does not seem to help either.
Avatar n tn So, What can I do to relieve this numbness? I do stretches(yoga) just about every morning and some pilates for strength. I take whole food supplements, no caffiene, very little sugar. HELP....

Avatar f tn I was finally diagnosed this past September with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. After finding a great Dr. and working on a multi-facated treatment plan, I am not cured but functioning better than I have in two years. Because my diagnosis is recent, my name has not come up for deployment, and I have been able to muster through drill periods for the last two years, I have not yet disclosed this information to the Army National Guard.
Avatar f tn Also forgot to mention ive been having indigestion almost everyday. And when i get anxious my left arm feels numb/weak which has been happening more than normal.
1800611 tn?1315856590 Lowe from the Fibromyalgia Research Foundation supports the premise that most Fibromyalgia patients are either hypothyroid or thyroid hormone resistant. The suggested tests above can detect both. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn Looking for help...I am 33 years old. I have Systemic Lupus and fibromyalgia. 3 years ago had a bad lupus flare and was put on 60mg of prednisone for a year and a half. After 2 mo on the prednisone I developed avascular necrosis in my knees, then hips. I had both my hips replaced, but they don't want to mess with my knees too at my age...Before all this happened (3 years ago) I was very active, walking, yoga, etc.
446963 tn?1205333997 I've lived with this for seventeen years, it gets worse in the winter. Yoga helps. Warmth helps. I haven't had regular medical care but have had several doctors quickly call my joint pain fibromyalgia and send me on my way with whatever pain medication. I've also been spacey all my life, forgetful. Clumsy. I went to my GP to ask if I could have ADD. He prescribed Zoloft because I was still breastfeeding my 10 month old son and he said it would be safer.

Avatar n tn I do know that narcotics are not recommended for fibromyalgia pain..the toxins etc from narcotics can make fibromyalgia even worse...Nuerontin and lyrica are the drugs of choice for this condition with nuerontin being the safer of the 2 and less side effects as well...if u r not on one of these drugs then it is definitely worth a try and the nuerontin helps me alot..i tried lyrica and also cymbalta but did not do well with either drug..i work full time and lyrica caused me to be droggy..
Avatar f tn Hi ! I hope you will check out our Health Pages (located to the right of your screen). Many of the fibromyalgia experts have their treatment plans online and I posted those links. There are also pathogen killing treatments... fairly new and without controversy, but the success stories are impressive. Also.. here are some other links that may be helpful to you. You may want to consider printing any information that you think may be of help to you and sharing it with your physician(s).
Avatar f tn I know that is just isn't stress that is causing all of these problems and that is what they said before another doctor found out that I have had a Chiari Malformation. I have had surgery to cure it in 2007, and was hoping that it would cure my many problems, but no it didn't unfortunately and I'm so upset and stressed. This in turn is making me really irritable and mad at times.
172715 tn?1285498090 My Mom and possibly Mother- in- law has Alzhiemers and I can say I feel like I could have it during the brain fog of Fibromyalgia. I have lost my old self and I don't really like my new self. Me and it do not get along. I want to garden but if I do just alittle bit, I get punished with days of pain and numbness by this new " CREATURE" AND SHE MAKES ME GO TO BED AND CRY!
1149516 tn?1261839498 my daily activities of life is affected though i'm taking medicines for pain and have physical therapy daily. is there any cure for this disease and why it the symptoms is getting worse.your opinion, suggestion, advise will be highly appreciated.thank you. This discussion is related to will i get any better.
Avatar n tn I suggest you start looking for alternative medicine. Chiropractics, message, stretching, muscle building, acupuncture, yoga, try it all. Start now, and slowly reduce your meds as you seek alternative treatment. I have to make a chiro appt. today, thanks for the reminder. Fact is, I got off drugs, tried everything to replace them, now my whole life is changing in ways that I could not imagine. I have scoliosis and dislocated a shoulder, I've been in a few car crashes, but pills stopped working.
Avatar n tn i have this and have for several years. Have you had any damage to your back, as being in a wreck? Sometimes Trauma to the back can be one cause. I have some Scoliosis ( curvature of the Spine ) , found in childhood, then in 3 wrecks, one in which I was thrown from a truck and it landed on me, L4 Surgery ( lower back ) and Fibromyalgia & more recently Osteopenia. I have seen a Chiropractor off and on and had occasional Massage Therapy and while it feels good, it doesn't last.
5201052 tn?1446230002 My wife has fibromyalgia and for the past few years I have her doing Yoga and have bought her Exercise Resistance Bands they come in different colors that represent different strengths. You should start off very light and only about 2-3 reps. As time goes by you should feel better and slowly increase the repetitions. It has helped my wife immensely! Talk to your doctor first!!
Avatar m tn Regarding questions, the doctor is going to really ask you a lot of questions, he is going to feel your legs, feet, shoulders, for trigger points, basically he's looking for I think (ten) points that hurt when he touches you and basically if it hurts then that's how they catagorize you with fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn Please contact me if you have this illness. I have other chronic illnesses that also cause pain, Fibromyalgia ,Polymyalgia, and Arthritis. My muscles have become very weak since starting prednisone, I now have to use a walker to walk through a store. A year ago I could walk through a mall and run down the street and now I feel like a big whale stranded on a beach. I am very strong emotionally but this illness frightens me. I know that prednisone helps many people but I feel very ill on it.
Avatar m tn hi all, i have just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and im struggling to come to terms with this as i have always been healthy and fit.I am suffering from pains in my pelvis, legs, hips and back ranging from shooting pains to burning pains, i am also so incredibly tired. i am on my own with 3 children, one of whom has special needs and i am her sole carer.
Avatar n tn Fortunately, I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. No cure, but better with current treatment (Lyrica and Cymbalta). DO NOT allow them to just say you're depressed, and do NOT allow them to put you on Elavil (put weight on I've never been able to remove. As with Any chronic condition - what makes life worthwile is HOW you live it. Sense of humor is key. If you can still laugh, ANYTHING is live able - and life is WORTH living, even if you hurt.
Avatar m tn Like a person sensitive to the sight of blood. I get that feeling. I know that if there were some type of cure or even just a treatment that it would improve my life significantly because I suffer with this daily. It affects my everyday living. I will opt out of different activuties because of these symptoms. I would go as far as saying it's miserable honestly. It creates a lot of anxiety and stress for me.
551343 tn?1506834118 ) From Mrs A, a great post. Yoga is sooooo important... YOGA. Yoga is brilliant for those stiff achy legs especially in the morning. Sit on the floor (if you can - or just lay on your bed sat up). Touch your toes. This will stretch all your leg muscles and really does help. This is a great site for Yoga. Although it is designed for MSERS it is also useful for all of us either with possible MS/ME/FIBRO/LUPUS etc. http://www.yoga4pwms.co.
Avatar m tn I really sympathise with you my friend and also commend you for dealing with it by yourself However I think you are very wise to get yourself checked out as it can dominate your life as it did mine I exercise and practise Yoga and deep breathing but was given an anti anxiety Med. by my Psychiatrist to use on 'as needed basis'.
262027 tn?1195837554 When I was first diagnosed with Fibro and CFS, along with Multiple Sclerosis, diahhrea was not and isn't a symptom for me. The "skin tenderness" is more tenderness at "trigger points" when those areas are pressed on, or literally "brushed up against." The slightest touch can cause pain. Fibromyalgia is one of those conditions that can be diffuclt to diagnose.
