Also, I forgot to ask this at her last rheumy appt, but how is Remicade any better than Enbrel or Humira? (SHe hasn't been on them, but I just wondered why he chose Remicade.) Any info you can provide would be most appreciated! My daughter is at the end of her rope.
I am on 40mg humira every other week. June 2007 - March 2008 I was on Enbrel and prednisone. I started on 10mg prednisone daily in June of 2007 and reduced it to 2 mg daily currently since December 2007.
I am also very fatigued, have no libido, skin rashes here and there, my hands have "hot spots" of red and swollen flesh which moves around every few days. I also experience incontinence (I have never had children), slight depression and lethargy.
I am going to begin taking Enbrel as nothing else has worked to control the pain and stiffness. I truly hope your wife recovers soon. Do you know what her sed rate is?
Wishing you better luck than I had! Naproxen did not seem to help me. I was diagnosed 8/07 and am now on Plaquenil and Methotrexate. It can take up to 3 months to know if these drugs help. Still trying to get the dosages and combination of drugs right and may be going to Enbrel or Humira soon.
I've been injecting methotrexate since January for RA. I'm at .8 - which I think is 20mg. I also take plaquenil. I still have pain migrating from joint to joint and I don't feel any improvement and my CRP keeps climbing. The joints that are bothering me burn and ache so badly I can't sleep or sit still.
My question is how long do you give this stuff a chance before trying infusions?
m having much much less pain in my joints. My doc wants me to start Plaquinel. He mentioned Enbrel and I thought the doc would fall over on his chair by my expression. YIKES!!!! He's a new rheumy who is first getting to know me. I think at that point he knew where I am coming from. I didn't start the Plaquinel eventhough he thinks I'm on it. I read all the horrible side effects and my other doc told me NOT to take it.
I want all to know I am just starting Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN). Stopped the Enbrel, Plaquenil, Celebrex, muscle relaxers, Methotrexate and other meds, and am only taking my blood pressure meds, hormone therapy and this LDN! I am STRONGER, less fatigued, and am doing very well in many areas!! I just wanted all of you to realize this LDN is out there, it's available and works well for most of us.
Several ground glass opacities in my right lung showed up on a CT scan in July 2011. Enbrel was discontinued and coincidentally I took a regime of prednisone for an allergy problem - 60 mg for one week, then with a weekly taper. A repeat CT scan was performed in December 2011 and one ground glass opacity remained (15 mm), with a small focus of sold component within the ground glass density. A percutaneous biopsy was performed to rule out bronchogenic carcinoma.
I was diagnosed with RA seven years ago and was prescribed Plaquenil. I received much relief and continued doing well. About 9 months after I was in a car accident, resulting in cervical stenosis and a long course of PT I had severe flares for which I was prescribed prednisone for several months (May, 2007). My rheumatologist was concered about my liver functioning and diagnosed hepatitis c after a blood test.
I guess my question is my hubby has been on prednisone and plaquenil. He takes hydrocodone for pain which is usually severe. The doctor has suggested Humira. He is reluctant. Then I have seen and gotten information on Enbrel. I would like to put him on something that is going to reduce the inflamation in his knees. He is 27 and can barely walk at times. In the past he was on methotrexate, naproxyn, something called "gold". None of these seemed to really keep it under control.

I am 24 years old male I was recently diagnosed with Reiter's Syndrome (Reactive Arthritis). I am positive for HLA-B27 antigen. It's been almost one month since the first swelling and before that I had Chlamydia. My symptoms so far are swelling in knees, elbow, ankles, toes, wrist, fingers, and I think in my spine too, and of course, pain and stiffness. I didn't have any other problem from the list of problems that come with Reiter's.
She very nearly needed knee replacements on both sides, and was an big opioid user. Nothing controlled her pain, despite sulfasalazine, methotrexate, plaquenil, and heavy doses of oxycontin for pain, and a lot of illegal (bad for the liver...methotrexate is bad enough on the poor organ) tylenol. A few years ago, mum went to see a different rheumatologist and now she's saved!! She takes Enbrel now and it literally saved her life. Her arthritis is so much better now...

I will tell you that the usual course of treatment begins with plaquenil. It takes about 3 months to determine if this medication is helping. If not, they will likely place you on methotrexate (MTX) either in pill or injectable form. If you go on MTX, you must take folic acid. the doctor should prescribe this for you but if they don't, ask for it as MTX will lower your folic acid levels. I recommend going on the injectable form of MTX as it has fewer side effects.
weird, never thought that enbrel would be a cause of hpv. I have developed hpv before starting on enbrel. what connection is there between the two?
AROUND THREE YEARS AGO I WAS HAVING FLARE UPS AND MY DOCTOR ALSO ME ON ENBREL, WORKED VERY GOOD FOR THE RA BUT MY NOW MY THROAT IS ALWAYS SORE AND CONGESTED WITH PHELM. THIS YEAR I'VE SEEM NUMEROUS DOCTORS ENT, GENERAL ALERGIST AND EVEN HAD SINUS SURGERY FOR 30 GRAND, NOTHING FIXED THE THROAT PROBLEMS. I SEEM MY RA DOCTOR THE OTHER DAY AND ADVISED HIM I'M GOING TO GET OFF OF THE ENBREL AND SEE IF MY THROAT CONDITION IMPROVES. HE DID NOT THINK THAT WAS THE PROBLEM.
Many have to use combinations of medications to get relief. I use NSAIDs, Plaquenil and Methotrexate. Until I started responding to this combination my doctor had talked about adding Enbrel. Has your doctor tried combining the drugs? This might be worth investigation but do be sure to take into consideration all the ways the disease effects you before you determine how you will proceed.
I have been told to get off Enbrel for needed gallbladder surgery. My problem is that when I get off Enbrel, every joint in my body swells, turns red, hurts unbearably and locks up. I become completely bedridden and cannot get dressed or go to the bathroom without help. My blood tests show that, even with the Enbrel, my c reactives and other immune response numbers are very high. They tell me that they will give me prednisone to help with the reaction.
I have had moderate to severe RA for 5 years. Take Enbrel once a week and am supposed to take 5mg. injectible of methotrexate weekly. I had gone without the methotrexate for at least six months and have not noticed any difference at all. I am scared to death of the methotrexate. Can anyone explain why my doctor wants me to continue it if it does not seem to make a difference? I do great on the Enbrel by itself, but am sure there are reasons, I just don't understand!
