Enbrel multiple sclerosis

Common Questions and Answers about Enbrel multiple sclerosis

Avatar n tn The doctor was encouraging me to start taking Enbrel, but I'm too scared because of its side effects and because of the risk of getting Multiple Sclerosis. How risky is it? Is it really the only solution I have right now? 2. One of the doctors told me that the symptoms will go away on their own within 2 to 6 months. Shall I just wait this period and suffer through the pain to avoid taking the Enbrel? Although I really need to get back to normal soon because I have studies and work. 3.

Embrel is in a class of drugs called "anti-TNF agents". TNF stands for Tumor Necrosis Factor and it is a part of the immune surveillance system. Other anti-TNF drugs include Humira and Remicade and there are a few others..
Avatar f tn systemic lupus erythematosus). Defects of the IFN system in these disorders have been noted to involve both IFN alpha and gamma. Often the highest levels of IFN in the blood are found when the severe episodes of autoimmune diseases occur. In experiments with mice who have an autoimmune disorder, injections of IFN seem to worsen the disorder and shorten lifespan. Thus, it is even possible that IFN itself may be the cause of some of the immune dysfunction in autoimmune disorders.
Avatar n tn Sounds like you need to have imaging done of your brain as well as your cervical / thoracic spine to make sure there's nothing going on there. Spastic changes usually take place higher than where "sciatica" does, and that means anywhere from your thoracic spine and up, including your brain. You seem to be normal, otherwise, but there may be a small problem somewhere along the course that's irritating your "foot nerves" tract.
Avatar f tn //www.webmd.com/multiple-sclerosis/evoked-potential-test-for-multiple-sclerosis In my instance, I had VEP (visual evoked potential), BAER (brainstem auditory evoked response) but didn't have the SSEP (somatosensory evoked potential). If you come upon other abbreviations, that site will clarify it for you. Also, in general, it is suggested that you move from a generalized neuro to an MS specializing neuro! Maybe that is why your dr. didn't suggest it?
Avatar f tn I have had a MRI of my brain and C-spine to search for Multiple Sclerosis lesions. We have not yet found any. I have a appt for a 3tesla MRI nest week as well as an EMG. I have been having tingling more so on the left extremities and tender bottoms of the feet. My Nuero ordered some lab work of which a positive ANA has came back. I know that ANA's can be false-positives and that you can not really count on that test alone.
Avatar f tn org database as a member - when you do the search it comes up as Baylor Medical Multiple Sclerosis Center and then when you click on it, it says "Maxine Mesinger" blah, blah, blah... so its the same place. I wasn't aware of that site though - its very helpful. Thanks for the recommendation. The thing that keeps me from pursing the Round Rock clinic is the lack of a 3T machine here in Central Texas.

While I do have MS, I have new problems going on that signal possible Rhuematoid Arthritis, most noticeably in my right hand. I have three fingers that lock up and have swollen knuckle joints. Those that have experienced this, know how painful it is. Strange how a limb so small can cause such great pain.
Avatar m tn You can have seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. This can also change overtime from negative to positive. My rheumatologist did a HLA-B27 (main gene associated with susceptibility to ankylosing spondylitis) blood test as part of my work up which was negative thankfully. I do have stiffness and pain in my bones and was in a bit of a panic that I might have the start of rheumatoid arthritis but I just found out my vitamin D levels have gone down to 59 nmol/L (23.

Avatar n tn The symptoms you describe are non-specific and could be related to several different causes. First, it is unlikely to be MS (multiple sclerosis), given that your MRI was normal and the description of the symptoms is atypical for MS. However, I would recommend that you complete your MS workup, to be sure. I would make sure your MRI included GAD contrast and a saggital flair (specific MRI sequence, your neurologist would know).
Avatar f tn I have recently been diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder called IgG4 Sclerosing Disease. I know very little about it and have had multiple surgeries and have seen MANY doctors regarding it. So far none of my doctors have seen anything like it and the only reason I reached this diagnosis was because one of my doctors reached out to a colleague at the MayoClinic in Rochester, MN who has 8 patients with this disease.
Avatar n tn I have been ignoring it because it has not been a constant problem and i have been through so much in the past year. I carry the unoffical diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. I say unofficial because i have only had one attack. I have not gone to see my nuerologist because i am afraid i am about to get married to the man of my dreams and my career as taken off. I guess these are STUPID excuses.
Avatar f tn I looked on other forums about unexplained chills/tingles/goose bumps and saw multiple sclerosis blogs about it. (mono is a common finding in medical history for those who develop MS) but am not diagnosed with MS. I notice getting sick makes the chills worse (without fever) and makes me fatigued as if I had mono again.
Avatar n tn My mom was diagnosed with Mutiple Sclerosis 10 years ago. Has anyone been tested for that here? I have not because I am not financially equipped for such tests. However, I hope someone can help us all here. My pain is going to cost me my job which requires heavy lifting which makes the pain even worse.
