Enbrel must be refrigerated at 2° to 8°C (36° to 46°F). Also, therapy with enbrel makes you most susceptible to infections, so take adequate precautions. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

When I researched the drug it states that people with MS should not take it. I asked a neuro on this forum about it and he said Enbrel can " increase and or bring on demyelination". Since I am still going thru all the testing for MS I was surprised and concerned that he said it's ok to start. Any thoughts from anyone on this? Thanks as always.

I've been on enbrel since 2003. I didn't develop or notice an infection until about a year ago. I am not saying enbrel caused it, but I've either had since college and slowly enbrel suppressed my immune system and the infection popped up again or I developed a recent infection. Eitherway, I have an infection now that I've tried to treat with aldara but has made my psoriasis worse and thus spread the infection making the infection worse, ie more warts.

Is it really necessary to turn me into a complete invalid for 3 months if the makers of enbrel do not even suggest getting off of it for surgery?...especially since my immune system seems to be in hyperdrive even with the enbrel.... I am sincerely thinking about just keeping my gallbladder even though it is giving me alot of pain. The pain of the gallbladder is nothing compared to my pain without enbrel. What are your thoughts?

AROUND THREE YEARS AGO I WAS HAVING FLARE UPS AND MY DOCTOR ALSO ME ON ENBREL, WORKED VERY GOOD FOR THE RA BUT MY NOW MY THROAT IS ALWAYS SORE AND CONGESTED WITH PHELM. THIS YEAR I'VE SEEM NUMEROUS DOCTORS ENT, GENERAL ALERGIST AND EVEN HAD SINUS SURGERY FOR 30 GRAND, NOTHING FIXED THE THROAT PROBLEMS. I SEEM MY RA DOCTOR THE OTHER DAY AND ADVISED HIM I'M GOING TO GET OFF OF THE ENBREL AND SEE IF MY THROAT CONDITION IMPROVES. HE DID NOT THINK THAT WAS THE PROBLEM.

I have had moderate to severe RA for 5 years. Take Enbrel once a week and am supposed to take 5mg. injectible of methotrexate weekly. I had gone without the methotrexate for at least six months and have not noticed any difference at all. I am scared to death of the methotrexate. Can anyone explain why my doctor wants me to continue it if it does not seem to make a difference? I do great on the Enbrel by itself, but am sure there are reasons, I just don't understand!

My doctor wants to put me on Enbrel but i am nervious about it. All the reading i do about it suggests that the cure is worse then the disease and it seems that the risk of getting cancer, lupus or the like is extreamly high (higher then the other injectables). I am no stranger to biologics, my doctor had me on Raptiva (before they pulled it) and i loved it. Completly cleared me with no side effects and even kept me clear for 2 years after i stopped using it. But Enbrel scares me.

I heard from my trial nurse about keeping the bocep refrigerated. She said not to worry about keeping it refrigerated. They keep it refrigerated until they disperse it and we consume it before there would be any degradation. Another travel tip when you travel out of the country. You will not be able to send your dosing information. Enter information as normal and don’t send, but do save. When you return be sure you battery is charged and then send. It will send all of the saved data.

Very well said by silverfox and I don't believe there would be any withdrawal issues, as "biologics" such as Enbrel do not have this effect, other than the effects of inflammation with all of its symptoms, once discontinued and no alternate treatment is taking its place. Did you stop the Enbrel treatment because of changes in your health care coverage?

Hi - has anyone who has ever been on Enbrel noticed a rust-colored staining on the hands? I'm not sure if it is directly related to enbrel, but I thought I would ask. My daughter was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis several months ago, and has tried Remicade unsuccessfully. Now, she has had 2 injections of Enbrel, and just today has noticed the staining on her hands. I don't know what to think, so I'd appreciate hearing from any of you.

I have been taking Enbrel for 5 years. I am 57 years. In the last year I have developed a head tremor which is getting progressively worse.

I've never taken Enbrel since I have Osteoarthritis and not Rheumatoid but in going to the Enbrel.com website and reading the side effects, I would be extremely concerned about the side effects that you are experiencing.

Oh no that is not what I want to hear and I pray that doesn't happen to me, my lower back and right leg are bad and keeps me from doing anything. Yes keep me posted on your Injections I have only done 1 so far. These diseases are crazy and why are they attacking us..............

If NSAIDs do not give you sufficient relief and you will not consider a TNF like Enbrel, talk to your doctor about DMARDs. They all have their rare side effects but your doctor can help you weigh the benefits and risks. So far, the one I have read indicate there were not any birth defects from taking enbrel during pregnancy. There is a lot of information on the web and personal stories as well as posts from people with MD at the end of their names. Most of what I have read has indicated that most women take it until they are ready to try to conceive or all the way to confirmation of conception.

In addition to these symptoms, I have had profuse itching to my extremities that is not relieved with hydrocortisone cream or benadryl. I am an RN and have really studied these symptoms, and I feel as if there is something else besides RA lurking around. Im wondering if these symptoms are indicative or RA or if the symptoms suggest a neurological problem?

Psoriasis and PA can flare significantly on treatment so that would not be the time to stop taking Enbrel. That said, Enbrel is an immunosupressive drug so its interaction with inteferon is still unknown and only one older study I'm aware (posted above) that has not been followed through. PortAnn has a very good point because newer treatments could limit your exposure to interferon by one half and interferon is the problem with psoriasis and PA.

Right sided numbness and weakness after the 3nd dose of enbrel. Unchanged in 9 weeks?

one year of Enbrel injections. Although the Enbrel may have lessened the pain and progression. other side effects and basically an unwell feeling. dizziness. sinusitis. Pain in eyes. If this is as good as it gets. there must be something better. anyone else been here and found something better?

I also do Enbrel, MTX and folic acid. I have not heard that you are not supposed to take Folic Acid with MTX. Why is that? I have been very successful with the meds. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis, not RA. And I have 3-4 drinks per week. Blood tests are always perfect according to the doc. Maybe you need to give it some more time for your body to adjust to it. Can you take enbrel for psorasis and interfern for Hepatitis C, and be safe and will both medication work

I have now been through prednisone, methotrexate, Enbrel, Humara(Humira? sp) then back to Enbrel.......then nothing. The Enbrel worked very well, but I have massive anxiety about the biologics. I just don't trust them and and it's very frustrating. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard spot. On one hand they really do make me feel better, pain and ROM vastly improved.

Recently, the RA flared up and my doctor added Enbrel. I have severe headches and feel like my heart is beating so fast that i get dizzy. The doctor thinks that this is because I am on yet another medication and my body has to adjust. Is anyone familiar with this drug? Has anyone gone as far as to have a second opinion for their RA? I just find it scary to give you one drug to have to counteract side effects with another. Then they add more.

Lantus can be left unfridgerated for weeks at room temperature and not be spoiled, as long at temperatures are reasonably cool, and the liquid remain clear. This is not, of course recommended. And not desirable. On the other hand, it will lose effectiveness, which means you may not be able to precisely titrate a dose. It's kind of expensive, so there is no need to discard it for such a short period without refrigeration.

The first thing that came to mind for you is to contact the company that makes Enbrel.. Not sure how differently things work in Canada but here the drug company is paying the co-pay for the first year so I have no out of pocket expense at all. I completely understand your concern, I have been on it for only 4 months and am concerned that the 3 or 4 weeks I won't have will take me back to square one. I'm going to do some research for you this morning and see if I can help you.
