I have been diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Fibrosis. Also Traction Bronchiectasis. I am on 5 ltrs of oxygen 24/7 for the Fibrosis.
These are my last two CT Scans:
CT Scan: 11/18/10- Lungs: Bilateral upper and lower lobe interstitial thickening with groundglass opacities and traction bronchiectasis. Splenic granuloma. Spenule is present. Hepatic Steatosis (fatty liver).
My husband has pulmonary fibrosis. When the weather is damp and rainy it is terrible to see him choking and gagging trying to bring up and spit out thick horrible white mucus. I am sorry to sound so gross with this description but there is no other way. Does any one know if this mucus is part of this terminal disease? He does not want any of us (his family) to call and ask his pulmonary doctor this question.

But, my mother had idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Idiopathic means cause unknown. And many times, doctors cannot tell a patient, what caused the pulmonary fibrosis. My mother had a lung biopsy. Even with the lung biopsy, doctors could not determine, just what had caused her lung disease. She had worked around metal dust for 15 yrs. They could not determine, if that caused her pulmonary fibrosis. According to my research, many things could possibly cause pulmonary fibrosis.
This machine dries up the eyes and nasal passages which causes irritation, burning and sneezing. However pulmonary fibrosis cannot be due to CPAP use. Alternatively uses of CPAP mask in pulmonary fibrosis can cause claustrophobia like symptoms.
Lung scarring occurs due to pathological deposition of fibrous tissue. This is a progressive disease usually and hence needs frequent periodic monitoring.
I have pulmonary Fibrosis in the late stage, I am not on O2 yet. I a am Imuran and 8 other meds to help stop/control the progression. recently I have this burning sensation from just right of my spine that wraps around my right side of my torsel. The burning is area is about as best I can desribe is about 6-8 inches in height if that make since as it wraps around to the from of my ribs. any idea's ???
t enough to make a determination of Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis. A CT coupled with blood lab panel as well as full pulmonary function tests will make a far better determination in diagnosing this.
I routinely perform pulmonary function tests on patients that have early and chronic IPF/ILD. Pulmonologists will rely heavily on the CT and lung volumes/DLCO (obtained from PFT's) to track the disease and make treatment changes.

Your symptoms could be on the basis of asbestosis and/or pulmonary fibrosis, with a “normal” chest X-ray but never with a normal CT, if your symptoms are on the basis of one of these two diseases. In some instances of a negative chest X-ray, “crackles” or “rales” can be heard by the examining physician.
In the diagnosis it had Postinflammatory pulmonary fibrosis. He never told me I have this! A few years ago 2 to be exact I had my 6th rib removed due to a growth on it. The growth was benign thankfully. I ended up with pnuemonia after the surgery and not knowing anyone including my son. I had aphasia so horribly that I would start a sentence and not be able to find the word I wanted and then start over again sometimes a dozen or so times until someone would thankfully change the subject.

Scarring, that can resemble interstitial fibrosis, can occur with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but COPD and interstitial pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) are 2 different diseases. Smoking causes COPD. The cause of IPF is unknown, and at this time, there is no proven effective treatment for it. Asbestos can also cause scarring, but unlike COPD and IPF, it frequently involves the membrane that encases the lungs, called the pleura.
I am somewhat involved in the Pulmonary Fibrosis Coalition. Little is known about IPF and there needs to be more research money made available for IPF. The past 2 yrs. legislation has tried to be passed, to provide more research money for IPF. As of yet, legislation has not been passed. Your mother and you are definitely in my prayers. May God help you all get through this very difficult time.
My father passed away at 58 yrs old from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. I have heard that this is a fancy way of saying he has a life threatening lung disease but they have no name for it. Through researching online I have seen a few studies published indicating that this may be hereditary. has anyone else gone through this, is anyone going through this? Maybe we can share info? I am scared not only for me but for my two young children.

I'm in the same vote. On enbrel and have developed hpv. Very tiny bumps if even noticeable at all, but its been spreading. Aldara only made my psoriasis and psa flare up. I guess the next thing is to stop enbrel till my hpv clears up? I am 29, male, non smoker. Enbrel is the only med I take.
This is good news. The so-called "normal values" are average values and, as with all averages, there is a range of truly normal values both above and below the "normal value." With pulmonary fibrosis, the crucial values are forced vital capacity (FVC) and, if performed total lung capacity (TLC). You should seek further clarification from the lung specialist about the significance of your values, with special attention to the diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis.
