So if you had an elisa Hiv test,it would be looking for antibodies produced by the immune system for Hiv,same would apply to RA,the elisa would be searching for those antibodies that would be produced if someone had RA.From reading It was established that each Elisa is specific to what antibodies it is looking for,just the name Elisa is the same,that's all.

Although i wanted an ELISA test the lab person told me to take this immunochromatography hiv tridot test and said if positive then take ELISA. My results came non reactive and he said that it is a perfect test and nothing has happened to me and u dont need to take an ELISA. It is a confirmatory test and negative HIV screening tests (rapid tests, lab. based ELISA etc. tests) ouside the window period do not routinely need further confirmation. Thanks.

I had an elisa HIV test that was negative. I also paid extra for an HIV 2 test just to be sure. I noticed that in the results section of the HIV 1 test said the following HIV 1/O/2 ABS -ICMA. My question is does the standard ELISA test check for HIV 1 AND 2? I ask this because the the results look like the test checks for BOTH and for subtype O (ie. 1/O/2). Did I waste money on the HIV 2 antibody test? The HIV 2 test was kind of expensive.

In Medicine, when elisa test is positive and western blot is negative, your HIV status is considered HIV Negative. But to rule out the possibilities, they perform PCR test. I am sure it will be negative. Let us know how it goes.

What I am most worried about is that we had a son about a year and a half ago, even though both my wife and I have tested negative for HIV is there still a chance we are positive? I will advice you to do' Fourth Generation ELISA testing for HIV1/2' on 6 week after the exposure. Fourth generation ELISA for HIV1/HIV2 1) 4th generation ELISA is a DUO TEST (Antibody and Antigen Sandwich Test) .It actually looks for the P24 (protein) Antigen and Antibodies simultaneously. 2) P24 Antigen is almost always present in the body after acquiring the virus till the 4th week after infection and then it disappears .

Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though.
