Avatar n tn Yesterday I got tested for Hepatitis B (negative), Hepatitis C (negative) and HIV which came back positive again (it was an ELISA test like the previous time) and they sent it for a confirmatory test. I'm waiting for the results. Is it possible that back in 2013 the 2 negative western blot tests, that I received after the 2 positive ELISA tests, were false negative tests? If not, will I continue to get tested positive in ELISA tests even though I'm negative?
Avatar f tn Also, wanted to know if when the lab based antibody 1/2 test is reactive, do they do a HIV 2 antibody test alone before doing a HIV 2 WB or do they go straight to WB like they do for HIV 1?
Avatar n tn You are not positive for HIV until they come back with the result of the western blot. Did you have unprotected vaginal or anal sex? When was the last time?
Avatar n tn The doctor told me that my ELISA test was positive and so they sent my blood sample for an Antigen Western Blot test which came back negative. The doctor told me that 99,999% the Elisa test was false because of other factors that might affect the blood but he asked me to retest in one week. Is it possible that I have contacted Hiv? If so, how? I used a condom and it didn't break. I also cannot have Hiv from previus relationships because I tested Hiv negative 9 months ago.
Avatar n tn Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
Avatar f tn For a conclusive negative test, there are no difference. All HIV test are 3 months post exposure for a conclusive result. A DUO can detect HIV apx 8 days earlier than a standard antibody test.
Avatar n tn In Medicine, when elisa test is positive and western blot is negative, your HIV status is considered HIV Negative. But to rule out the possibilities, they perform PCR test. I am sure it will be negative. Let us know how it goes.
Avatar m tn What I am most worried about is that we had a son about a year and a half ago, even though both my wife and I have tested negative for HIV is there still a chance we are positive? When my wife found it she was pregnant they had her do an HIV test and it was negative. Before she gave birth they had her do another one and she was negative. I took one about 3 weeks ago and it was negative. Is there a possibility that there are not enough HIV antibodies in our blood after 7 years of exposure?
Avatar m tn Many sources and case scenarios have shown that the WB has too many flaws to use for an accurate and quick diagnosis of HIV. Many people who test positive on the RNA PCR test, and with hundreds of thousands of viral copies / mL still test negative on their WB. I believe WB is a very poor confirmatory test to the ELISA. The CDC is starting to believe this as well and these standards could change. I have been trying to 'bury the hatchet' in regards to whether or not I have HIV.
Avatar n tn Confirmatory testing is only done when the ELISA is positive. But a positive ELISA with negative confirmatory test is absolute proof against HIV, no different than if the ELISA were positive. There were no conflicting test results in your case. If you doubt this, ask the provider who ordered the test. Time to move on. That's all for this thread.
Avatar m tn hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.
Avatar m tn I in 26 February is a girl without condoms for oral sex, 1 March to test center testing HIV, the test is CMIA and elisa.cmia reported to be positive in that report ELISA is negative. Respectively on 8 March, 30 March and 3 may go on a test center for HIV, the test is ELISA HIV1 2 (Ag AB), report the result is negative. I would like to ask the doctor I can exclude the?? and test center staff told me that CMIA inspection accuracy than ELISA high.
Avatar m tn ELISAs in the same way that we do for tests such as herpes. Rather, a positive test (any positive test) is then tested using a different test- sometimes a Western blot, other times using another test such a rapid test which tests for different viral proteins than the ELISA. The second test should be done on the same blood specimen as the first test taken. Thus I am a bit surprised at several things: 1. That the Western blot will take 2 weeks 2.
Avatar f tn I went to donate blood 1/20/2014 I got a letter stating I tested repeatedly reactive for the elisa hiv test. They did a IFA confirmatory test which came back negative and also took a sample of my donation and put it with a pool of other samples for a NAAT test which also my pool came back negative or non reactive. They told me that I was not living with hiv and can come back in 6 months to try again. Now 2 weeks after I got that letter I took an oraquick home swab test which came back negative.
Avatar m tn ve 30.50.60.70.80.86.92.115 elisa test. it necessary to obtain the test to be negative anymore, all the days of 6 months?
Avatar n tn Everyone who has said that you are not confirmed to have HIV until you have a positive WB confirming a positive antibody test is absolutely right. A positive ELISA with negative WB is a negative result.
Avatar m tn I had my ELISA test a week ago and it turned out to be positive. I am so shocked when I knew it and yet I couldnt help anything about it. I am so down but I can still manage myself to do my ADL's (Activites of Daily Living). I submitted myself for a Western Blot and PCR and the result will be availble in a week or two. How high is the probability that I can have a postive on the latter tests? I need help. Thanks.
Avatar n tn after 7 months i testd for mind peace as there were no reasons to do test as i did not do any thing with HIV risk. I donated for blood, result was positive, then Western blood test showed negative. Then same day i been to private clinck then ELISA showed positive again. But western blood test showed negative again. The dector told me do not test again and do donate he said my antibodies like that. Any way, then after 5 months i did not beleive him i testd again ELISA again it was negative.
Avatar f tn So if you had an elisa Hiv test,it would be looking for antibodies produced by the immune system for Hiv,same would apply to RA,the elisa would be searching for those antibodies that would be produced if someone had RA.From reading It was established that each Elisa is specific to what antibodies it is looking for, just the name Elisa is the same, that's all.
Avatar n tn If a duo test is positive at 7 weeks, it is because HIV antibody is present. Therefore, an ELISA antibody test will always be positive in that circumstance. If your duo test is positive, there is no point to repeating an ELISA; you have HIV and that's all there is to it. If so, you need to immediately make an appointment with a doctor or clinic for proper medical care. On the other hand, if your duo test returns negative, it will be 100% proof you do not have HIV.
Avatar m tn Of course ELISA test can be indeterminate. No an ELISA test is not that much different than a Rapid test. One takes a machine to process while the other doesn't.
Avatar m tn I had an encounter around 5 weeks ago where I performed oral sex on a female prostitute in Dubai (she was Asian although I am not sure from where exactly). The vaginal sex was protected. I was worried so I got tested for all STD's. Everything was negative except for the HIV ELISA test which showed a weak positive result (1.20 against a cutoff of 1.0). As you can imagine I am freaking out right now and am having trouble functioning/eating/sleeping and working.
Avatar m tn CAN ALL THIS BE THE SYMPTOMS OF HIV?....AS I NEVER UNDERGONE ANY HIV ELISA TEST...WAT ARE THE CHANCE OF BEING HIV INFECTED??
Avatar n tn About a year ago I got tested for HIV. First ELISA or EIA (are these the same?) test came back preliminarily positive, second came back positive, so lab routinely did a Westernblot which came back "indeterminate." The Westernblot test revealed "non-specific staining obscuring bands in that region." Doc told me to go get another test in one month. ELISA came back non-reactive/negative for both HIV-1 and HIV-2. Should I trust these results?
Avatar m tn So the test I had mentioned is conclusive at 4 months? Both tests I had were non reactive.
Avatar m tn This is the reason, a western blot test is always ordered whenever there is an Elisa comes positive.
