What I am most worried about is that we had a son about a year and a half ago, even though both my wife and I have tested negative for HIV is there still a chance we are positive? When my wife found it she was pregnant they had her do an HIV test and it was negative. Before she gave birth they had her do another one and she was negative. I took one about 3 weeks ago and it was negative. Is there a possibility that there are not enough HIV antibodies in our blood after 7 years of exposure?

i have got an elisa test done for hiv 3 years after exposure. my test confirmed that i was negative. do i need to get retested or can i be assured that i am hiv negative. and yeah thanks for answering my previous questions, it helped me a great deal. you all are doing a great job , thumbs up....

ELISA will detect antibodies within few weeks. 3 months is the current guideline for conclusive negative result in most countries.

For a conclusive negative test, there are no difference. All HIV test are 3 months post exposure for a conclusive result. A DUO can detect HIV apx 8 days earlier than a standard antibody test.

In Medicine, when elisa test is positive and western blot is negative, your HIV status is considered HIV Negative. But to rule out the possibilities, they perform PCR test. I am sure it will be negative. Let us know how it goes.

with refer to no.1. it seems HIV antigen (for ELISA test) could withstand for long period after taken out from human body? In addition, may I know what should do and dont's before blood sampling for ELISA test for HIV? e.g. fasting, take medicine, smoking, sufficient sleep, no fever etc....

Furthermore like the others say, Oral is no real risk for HIV! Together with Negative ELISA I think you are HIV negative. The CMIA has a bigger accurancy, but is known for false positives.

1) A Modern ELISA HIV test is extremely accurate. A NEGATIVE HIV test is CONCLUSIVE at 3 months. 2) A DUO test Antigen/Antibody assay is essentially two tests designed to detect recent infection (antigen) and antibody production (later). Keep in mind that HIV antigens are only detectable for about 3-4 weeks post -infection. By this time, antibodies are produced suppressing antigens but now these would be detected themselves. A completely reliable test when taken at the appropriate time.

Dr. EWH, My girlfriend and I tested for hiv and my girlfriend got the result back today. The result says "negative" and in "reference range" column states "nonreactive". It says that test was "hiv 1/2 ABS /W RFLX CONFIRMATION". It also says hiv-1/hiv-2 ABS ELISA. Does that mean ELISA was done first and then confirmed with something else? If you speculate an HIV risk, you need an HIV test and not a CD4 count. And, you do mention that you have already tested negative on an ELISA preceeding the window period. That conclusively proves that you are negative. Please find the real cause, HIV is not your problem.

At six weeks, I had a PCR DNA and a PCR RNA both undetectable and elisa negative. Also, at 9 weeks, I had an elisa negative and a PCR RNA negative. For someone who is hiv+ and has not developed antibodies, wouldn't one of the PCR's detect the virus?

hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.

My WB test was INDETERMINATE NEGATIVE and ELISA test result is also NEGATIVE (test was taken after 3 months of exposure). According to some internet sites, related to HIV/AIDS, I read that test result could be NEGATIVE during 'window period', even some one is infected (false result). I also read that WB TEST result could be INDETERMINATE if infected person is in 3rd stage (AIDS). My query is if I am in 3rd stage (AIDS); could my result come NEGATIVE in ELISA TEST too ? It is a confirmatory test and negative HIV screening tests (rapid tests, lab. based ELISA etc. tests) ouside the window period do not routinely need further confirmation. Thanks.

Is a HIV antibody blood test with WB includes tests for HIV-1, HIV-2, HIV-O reliable and conclusive 4 months after possible exposure? I went through this 2 years ago, and haven't really felt well since. I just need some reassurance.
