Is the hiv elisa test{without the confirmatory test}the most reliable and accurate for detecting the hiv virus if you wait outside the 6 month window period?Is a second, third or fourth generation superior to a first generation elisa? dont worry yes you can get tested with an elisa test. elisa test looks for hiv antibodies in the blood.its best tested after 3 months of last exposure. sometime the elisa test gives false positives when this happens it shud be second tested by a western blot test which is just as accurate as an elisa. for best results take 1 after 3 months of last exposure then another at 6 months of last exposure just to put ur mind an body at rest.
No, you do not need further testing. The problems with the PCR tests are that they are more prone to false positives than the ELISAs and they are far more expensive than standard ELISAs. Having had two negative PCRs you can be confident you do not have HIV. That said, I'm a bit surprised you did not also have an ELISA at 9 weeks. Are you sure you didn't?
The doctor told me that my ELISA test was positive and so they sent my blood sample for an Antigen Western Blot test which came back negative. The doctor told me that 99,999% the Elisa test was false because of other factors that might affect the blood but he asked me to retest in one week.

I will advice you to do' Fourth Generation ELISA testing for HIV1/2' on 6 week after the exposure.

1) 4th generation ELISA is a DUO TEST (Antibody and Antigen Sandwich Test) .It actually looks for the P24 (protein) Antigen and Antibodies simultaneously.
2) P24 Antigen is almost always present in the body after acquiring the virus till the 4th week after infection and then it disappears .

The elisa part of the test looks for HIV1 & 2 the antigen part looks only for HIV1.

My doctor was concerned, and so she recommended the HIV DNA test. Well, today I was contacted by my doc, and she told me my HIV DNA test results were negative.
Okay, sigh of relief.
My doctor, however, is still concerned with my ELISA test results, and has referred me to state health. They will soon be contacting me, but I am still unclear as to why. My doc couldn't really give me an answer.
So, 2 questions:
1. What will the health department's procedure be?
So if you had an elisa Hiv test,it would be looking for antibodies produced by the immune system for Hiv,same would apply to RA,the elisa would be searching for those antibodies that would be produced if someone had RA.From reading It was established that each Elisa is specific to what antibodies it is looking for,just the name Elisa is the same,that's all.
