if your test is third generation ELISA OR EIA which detects all hiv subtypes,then it is conclusive at or after 12 weeks. third generation elisa test not ony detects Ig G but also IgM which is the first antibody produced in response to antigen(hiv virus). after 6 weeks of infection more than 99% will test positive and at or after 12 weeks a third generation test would definintely exclude infection.

I had a risk exposure with a unknon status CSW 3 months ago. After the 3 months I had done a HIV DUO Quick (p24 & abc) test in a private lab. The test result came out negetive. . HIV DUO Quick (p24 abc) test is a acqurate test at 3 months? But I did not done HIV 1&2 antibody ELISA Test. Need HIV 1&2 Anitbody (Elisa) to conclusive? I had an elisa HIV test that was negative. I also paid extra for an HIV 2 test just to be sure. I noticed that in the results section of the HIV 1 test said the following HIV 1/O/2 ABS -ICMA. My question is does the standard ELISA test check for HIV 1 AND 2? I ask this because the the results look like the test checks for BOTH and for subtype O (ie. 1/O/2). Did I waste money on the HIV 2 antibody test? The HIV 2 test was kind of expensive.

i had unprotected vaginal sex with lady unknown HIV status , after 20 days i took screening test using ELISA methode 4th generation the result is negative , and then on 35 days i took same test but the lab technician told me that he only detect antibody because P24 antigen detected on few weeks after exposure , meaning on 2nd test ( 35 days ) only antibody test but using ELISA 4th gen. any expert can explain how the accurate my test?
If a duo test is positive at 7 weeks, it is because HIV antibody is present. Therefore, an ELISA antibody test will always be positive in that circumstance. If your duo test is positive, there is no point to repeating an ELISA; you have HIV and that's all there is to it. If so, you need to immediately make an appointment with a doctor or clinic for proper medical care. On the other hand, if your duo test returns negative, it will be 100% proof you do not have HIV.
