Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test for antibody detection

Avatar m tn RNA PCR is for early detection, test at the 14 th day after the exposure backed up by an antibody test at the 12th week is good enough to rule out HIV. DNA PCR at the 28th day after the exposure backed up by an antibody test at the 12th week is good enough to rule out HIV Both are NAT tests and are highly sensitive. 7.
Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
Avatar m tn It's an ELISA test.
Avatar n tn These assays have demonstrated a high analytical sensitivity of detection that is most likely attributed to the combination of a third-generation format (antigen sandwich) for antibody detection and the ability to simultaneously detect HIV p24 antigen. To date, there are 8 commercial, combination antibody and antigen assays that have been developed and evaluated.
Avatar m tn a pcr is used to moniter the already infected people, the cross contamination can give out false positive more often than an elisa, and even so a undetected viral load has to be followed by an antibody test at the 3 months mork, so pcr is a waste of money so go for an antibody test at 3 months mark
Avatar m tn I tested negative at 13 weeks with an ELISA test. Do I need a DUO test to be conclusively negative at 13 weeks? Is an ELISA at 13 weeks considered conclusive? Is the duo test better to have perfored? Should I be tested at 6 months?
Avatar m tn Those other tests you mention are all early detection tests,an elisa test will be enough at 126 days and a cheaper option aswell.
1350500 tn?1277518068 Which test should I opt for confirmatory detection of antibodies for Hepatitis C, if the screening test (ELISA) for antibody IgG detection comes out to be positive?
Avatar m tn Can HIV ANTIBODY TEST(ELISA<HIV ! & ANTIBODY) test after 6 months fi fully conclusive????? I hb done ELISA test aftr 6 mnths of exposure???? Can I be 100% confident tat I m HIV negetive as the test came back non reactive with ANTIBODY 0.020 OD........will I have to test aftr ! yr?
Avatar n tn I should have said the antibody part of the DUO test is the ELISA test.
Avatar m tn Under what circumstances is a PCR-RNA and P24 test used and does that give you a more conclusive result?
Avatar n tn can two steroid shots, one at 3 weeks after exposure and a second one 5 weeks after exposure and long term topical steroid use for eczema delay hiv antibody production and detection.
Avatar m tn If you test negative with a DUO test at 3 months you don't have HIV.
Avatar n tn The PCR can give false positives, costs a lot, sometimes gives false negatives and is not easy to perform. You can have an undetectable viral load and test "negative" but still have the virus. This said, an antibody test is much more reliable overall because if you have antibodies they will show...hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Take an elisa antibody test at 3 months--you are past the early detection stage, you have already had those tests.
Avatar m tn Does the 3rd generation Elisa test not an antibody test??I had the 3rd generation testantibody test)after that scary test, and then I had a virus load test, the result was undetectable.
Avatar m tn You don,t require a viral load test to determine your status, and antibody elisa test is perfectly fine and will be 100% conclusive at 3 months, let alone 8 months.Viral load tests are performed on hiv positive people to establish there viral load and see if there meds are working.
Avatar m tn It can take some time for the immune system to produce enough antibodies for the antibody test to detect, and this time period can vary from person to person. This time period is commonly referred to as the “window period.” Most people will develop detectable antibodies within 2 to 8 weeks (the average is 25 days). Even so, there is a chance that some individuals will take longer to develop detectable antibodies.
Avatar m tn I used to wait 3 months for the elisa test, but I found out my local clinic has a 30 day window period test. I also found out that an early detection test is now available at only 9-11 days after last contact. So my question is if I take the early detection test with the 9-11 day window period after waiting 12 days since last sexual contact, will I be able to rest easy on those results, or do I have to wait out the 30 days until the clinic will give me that test?
Avatar m tn No, I know of no specialist who has seen it take more than 8 weeks for an infected persons to develop a positve antibody test for several years now. Believe your test results.
