So, I need to face it and test on HIV-1/HIV-2 combo Elisa or ruin my life. However, I am so afraid of false positive results. I heard that HIV-2 does not have any approved confirmatory Western Blot test, I think increasing false positive to compare it with HIV-1?? Therefore, let me ask you to ALL my questions: 1. What are the chances of such scenario being false positive/ inconclusive in my case (no recent vaccines, no known disease, none of exposures)?

So I went to a private hospital a month ago for rabies injection and the nurse didn't open the syringe in front of me but before she injected me I asked her whether the injection was new and she said don't worry it's new. Now I have never had unprotected sex at all. 25 days ago I started getting abrasions inside my penis skin which goes back (nothing on my penis tip at all).

I just heard that it could be very dangerous for an 18 year old to recive a rabies shot. My cat has never ever been out and she is in perfect health. I want to adapt a kitten that i found but they (county animal services) r saying that my 18 year old cat has to be vaccinated. I dont want her to get sick or even die because of what ever is in this vaccinion! Is this true? I am willing to vaccinate the new kitten with everything but I dont know now if I should take a chance.

He did not go to the hospital or a doctor. I kissed him the day after (definitely exchanged saliva). Am I at risk for rabies?

If you have any blood on you or got saliva from the dog on you then you need a rabies shot. You get rabies from the dogs saliva. I think you should see a doctor for their opinion.

WB is only reserved for a positive antibody test. Your test is conclusive at 3 months, but I doubt you didn't use a condom.

I live in California and I recently ate something that my dog got into by accident. And my throat started itching like 30 minute after. (it could be from a really salty food) And I started coughing like a day after. Is that Rabies?? My dog doesn't seem to have any symptoms of rabies. She hasn't gotten her shot.

I wouldn't take chances where rabies is concerned. I'd ask for the shot.

First, she should receive an initial feline distemper vaccine (FVR-CP) followed by a booster in about 3 weeks. She should also receive a Rabies vaccine with a booster in 1 yr. I would also recommend that she be tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS.

You will not get HIV from a rabies shot. THIS is how people get HIV, for real. They have unprotected vaginal or anal penetrating sex or they share IV drug needles. Taking care of your health and getting vaccinations is not how people get HIV. You may search data bases and come up with this or that in the history of HIV but it is not relevant to you. This would be front page news in the present and not something you'd have to search a data base for.

So my question is how much should I worry and what else I could do other than ARV injection to prevent myself. Is there any medical test for rabies immunity? And what kind of speacilist do look into these kind of cases?

Verorab is an approved post exposure prophylaxis for rabies. It is usually pretty effective and if it was a ‘by chance’ exposure, then you do not need to measure antibodies to confirm its efficacy. However, if you live in an area where you are at continued risk of exposure or your job profile is such that you are likely to be exposed again and again, then it is important to get an antibody titer done to see if you need booster doses.

Are these results conclusive for being negative for HIV or do I need to get another ELISA again on 90 days post? The odds I've figured for myself are about 1/20,000,000,000 which makes me feel pretty good (using 3% incidence which is probably very high in the first place). I had a oraquick HIV test done at four weeks after a possible exposure and it was negative. I had that test done for peace of mind and planned to get tested again after 12 weeks. In the 12th week i had a run in with a bat and had to get a series of rabies vaccinations which will end 26 days from today. I would like to have a second HIV test done as soon as possible but I am worried about a false positive as the rabies vaccination is known to cause false positives.

It is good that you were able to go to the hospital immediately after the cat scratched your hand. If there is risk of rabies, it is possible to prevent rabies if immunization is given soon after the bite. Follow the prescribed vaccine schedule as prescribed and observe the animal also for the next 2 weeks.

That's maddening. I mean, it seems the vaccinations for our pets are just as potentially dangerous as the ones meant for us. Yet, we're required by law to get the rabies vaccinations. Just the same, it doesn't seem like some pets should be required to have to go through this. For example: what about indoor only cats who can't even get outside even if they tried to bolt? Six weeks ago I was bit by my neighbor's cat on by leg. The bite was very deep and to avoid infection, I was put on penicillin. My neighbor's cat is still doing fine and it has had all of its shots. The wound never got infected although 24 hours after the bite, the place I was bitten was licked by a friend's dog, which has not had its shots. This is probably irrelevant because the wound had most likely closed but I needed to bring it up.

Currently residing at south east asia and doctors here kinda think rabies are from dogs. And I asked, most private hospital do not even test for rabies antibodies. I think I will just ask for a booster. Thanks again!!
