Effexor xr side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor xr side effects

Avatar f tn This drug I feel is comparable to Oxycontin (Oxycodone) and Morphine as far as side effects and withdrawals are concerned. I also find myself at times craving Effexor for its "numbing" effects. This has turned me off to any anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication and now I only go to therapy. I find that I function without it much better and I feel like myself again. How can I ever take medication again without a concern for something like this to happen again or even worse?
Avatar n tn I have been on that now for 10 days and have none of the side effects that I had with the Effexor. My doctor said that if had of stayed on the Effexor that the side effects would have diminished but I just couldn't take another day of naseau and twitching. Just my experience though.

Avatar n tn However, it is not uncommon for some side effects to resolve within 1-2 weeks. Discussing the possible benefits, risks, and side effects of medications with your doctor may help you make the best informed decision.
323525 tn?1229342647 I was hoping that anyone who is currently taking or has taken Effexor xr could share any experiences with it? I know that everyone reacts differently to every medication, but I would really appreciate any thoughts on it. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I have been on effexor xr for about a year, no side effects, am taking 150mg. I recently have seen many articles on the withdrawl symptons of this drug & they are very upsetting. Does everyone have the same reaction & I wonder why I was not informed of this when I was prescribed this drug. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I was on Aropax and had very similar reactions you are having on Effexor. I went onto Effexor XR and found again, similar reaction. I was on Effexor (non slow release) for many years and did well on it. Unfortunately the pharmaceutical company stopped making it and I had to go cold turkey coming off it. The XR doesn't agree with my digestive system! Don't ask! LOL I have been on many different anti-depressants and would suggest you go back and tell of your side effects.
Avatar n tn He said take that for a week then bump up to 150mg. First few days the Effexor seemed good, no real side effects, a little dizzy, not bad. Its been a week. Past few nights I wake up alot, feel restless. I am very nauseous after taking the Effexor. I'm taking it in the morning 6am, after eating a piece of toast. I am extremly anxious and edge until about 10-11 am. I was hoping to stay on the 75mg and see if it helped the anxiety w/o upping it to 150. I see my PD tommorrow to discuss with him.
492527 tn?1212179272 ) and also has a reputation for creating a host of creeping side effects (side effects that appear slowly over time as you take the drug and hence are particularly difficult to link to the drug unless you are forewarned that they may appear). The FDA put out a warning letter on Effexor in 2004 highlighting the "withdrawal syndrome" and noting many reports of side effects that had emerged since the drug was approved-- anecdotal but alarming.
Avatar n tn I dont trust the herbs mainly because they arent consistant in the aount you get. and you can have just as bad side effects form herbs. there are allergic reactions and such.If it were me and the med is working I would stay on the med.
Avatar n tn so i was just wondering if those of yous have experienced the side effects if you stop cold turkey or if you slowly lowered your dosage.
Avatar n tn I hear a lot of people complain about antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome, but I never hear then speak of the flip side. I used to take Effexor XR at 300Mgs a day for about 4 years. In that time it worked very well for my severe depression. I was able to live my life again, keep my job, and keep my family too. When the time came I had to switch drugs....Well yes your correct because the discontinuation was really bad. I was very sick as a result for many weeks.
408795 tn?1324939275 My wife is currently on effexor XR, she's been on it for around 2 years or longer. Can someone tell me if they ever got off of it and how they got it done. I remember when she first started taking it, one of her sx's was the strange dreams. She tried to get off cold turkey and she started having even stranger dreams, she couldn't get off. Is it a taper very slowly approach? She has gone down to 37.5 mgs. a day from 75 mgs., so now she wants to move onward and out.
Avatar n tn Try another solution or you will end up with dreadful side effects whilst trying to wean off effexor. I now have myoclonus which could (not definite) be due to effexor. I did stop taking effexor for about 6 months but my depression became so severe as nothing else helped so I had to start taking it again. Eat 3 meals a day and take time out to relax, it will help the IBS, also drinking peppermint helps.
Avatar f tn I don't think you'll have a problem because 3 weeks, while enough time to get side effects, isn't enough time for the effects to set in. But your doc is completely and horribly wrong that going on another drug has anything at all to do with withdrawal difficulties. Zoloft and effexor are entirely different in how they operate; obviously all these drugs are different in the receptors they target and how they get there or they wouldn't be able to get a patent for a new drug.
Avatar f tn It has taken me a while to figure this out because I usally take my meds everyday. My question is can you develope side effects after being on effexor xr this long. I am in the proccess of going down to 37.5 mg so I can take myself off this medication.
Avatar n tn Is the paxil not working or are you having undesired side effects? I have not taken effexor but people have in the forum. Medications are definitely a personal endeavor in my opinion. While some may reallly like one type, others may really dislike it. In my experience, sometimes it does take a little trial ande error to find out which one is a good 'fit' for you. As long as you do this under the advice of your doctor, you are doing the right thing in my opinion....keep us posted!
Avatar m tn They have also been used off-label to treat migraines, diabetic neuropathy, and hot flashes. According to the official Effexor XR website, common side effects may include nausea, dizziness, sleepiness, sweating, dry mouth, gas, abnormal vision, nervousness, insomnia, loss of appetite, constipation, confusion, agitation, tremors, yawning, palpitations, and increased cholesterol.
Avatar f tn To see if i dont need it anymore. My anxiety dissappeared about a week or 2 ago. Great drug, bad side effects for me personally with weight gain, very hard to detox in my opinion, but all in all, i wouldnt change a thing. Effexor helped me in my most darkest hours. Hope this helps : ) Good luck !!
Avatar f tn I have tried weaning off the effexor XR a couple times and have gone into Panic Attack mode when I do. I only will get a panic attack maybe 2-3x a year, so I know that the medicine has helped (for 6 years), but I have to say that it definetly has decreased my sexual relationship with my husband (I have heard this is a common side effect). I have heard that lexapro or wellbutrin do not do this.
Avatar n tn Has anyone taken this drug? What were your side effects? My brother has taken Xanax, Paxil, Seroquel, Ativan, Remeron and nothing has helped. He has very severe anxiety and depression. Please need your feedback.
534618 tn?1213458076 I have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and was prescribed Effexor XR for this condition. I also know some other people that take Effexor XR. You are (I assume) just starting on a dose that will build up slowly. I have heard of and experienced excessive sweating at night while taking the Effexor. It is a pretty powerful med, and it may take you a while to get used to.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I was on Effexor XR 150mg for a couple months only. It did nothing for me and actually brought back a lot of my anxiety symptoms. The only drug that works for me, for anxiety/OCD issues is Zoloft. I went off effexor in a matter of 5 days and the withdrawal was the worst I have ever experienced. I have a pretty resilient body though and medicine, etc moves through me pretty quickly. I would say that my withdrawal lasted 2 weeks while it was REALLY bad.
Avatar f tn Hello. Is it possible to have side-effects and withdrawal symptoms after taking Effexor XR (75 mg) for a very short period of time? I took this med for 2 weeks only and then got off it cold turkey 3 weeks ago. During this time I experienced dizziness, tingling and burning in the limbs and sometimes brain zaps and body shivering. Are these related to taking Effexor? Indeed I missed a dose once and the next day I got several episodes of vertigo.
Avatar f tn I weaned off Effexor xr very very slowly and had no withdrawal symptoms. I opened the capsules and took a few grains out. Every day I took out a couple more than the last. When I was down to 5 grains I quit. It was a long, tedious process, but totally painless. I know it sounds stupid but it works.
Avatar f tn I decided to see a Psychiatrist who tried different medications, all of which had side effects. Ergo, the only solution was to go back on Effexor at a higher dose combined with Dexamphetamine, a mood elevator and Mogodon for sleep. Get off the Effexor as fast as you can. I know I will never have to withdraw from it again as I will be on it for life. I have severe major depression. My best wishes to you.
Avatar n tn My 20 year old son is weaning off of effexor xr. He was up to 300 mg per day and now is on 75 mg. Tommorrow he goes down to 37.5 mg. He has had some withdrawals. I am wondering what will happen when he is right off of them, if he will still have withdrawals. Can anyone share their experience with me.
