effexor xr side effects

I am a 30-year-old healthy female that started taking effexor xr in January. The dosage was raised to 150mg 2 months ago. I really haven't had any side affects. I went off birth control about a month ago, after taking it for 12 years and now I feel like my body is going crazy. I am having fluid seeping from one breast, head-aches that linger all day, I am exhausted even though I get plenty of sleep, I feel nauseous and dizzy often, and I am very emotional.

In recent years, it had been fairly well controlled as I had started on Effexor XR over 300mg years back, and by 2014 had tapered down to 75mg per day. Last year suffered some trauma in a near fatal crash, and mentally did fine in the aftermath. In any event, after leaving the hospital last August, I ended up having relapsing symptoms. I have had what I consider to be an excellent Psychiatrist for years.

Hi i am trying to find out if any1 else who takes effexor has had as many side effects as i have, which is basically them all including seizures and blackouts? I was on 375mg put due to the risk of another seizure have dropped down to 300mg. Has anyone else experienced as many side effects and do you think its worth all the side effects to be be ?( stable for now neway) .The doctors seem to think its worth it but then they dont have a load of side effects to deal with.

t matter what time of day or night you take it. Some people also report less side effects with the XR variant.

I agree with Serge144. I also had many side effects & awful withdraw symptoms. If I forgot a dose or was late taking a dose while I was on it, I was ill, felt very sick within maybe 3-4 hours of the missed dose. Google Effexor side effects & symptoms. Look for forums like this, not like Wikipedia that just give you facts. Read info that real people who have used it/been on it. See what they have to say.

I am really concerned about this and would like to hear others experiences with this. My Doctor just switch my medication from 150 mg of Effexor XR to 400 mg of Seroquel XR. I dropped my dosage of Effexor gradually but I still experienced terrible withdrawl. Now I am experiencing bad side effects, " I'm guessing ths", from the Seroquel. I have gained weight in my stomach area very rapidly, I have pain and stiffness in my legs, 24 hour dry mouth and sinuses and I feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat.

THE REASON HE GAVE THE PROZAC TO OFFSET THE EFFEXOR SIDE EFFECTS IS BECAUSE PROZAC HAS A MUCH LONGER HALF LIFE THAN EFFEXOR. THE SEROTONIN IN YOUR BRAIN STAYS MORE STABLE WITH THE PROZAC IN YOUR SYSTEM, AS THE DRUGS GRADUALLY COMES OFF YOU ARE ABLE TO SLOWLY WEAN OFF. I am a 32 year-old male living in Houston. I am presently being treated for depression/anxiety with Effexor XR. My dose is presently 75 mg, & I am presently slowly working up to a 150 mg dose, per instruction from my Doc. My question is "Will Effexor XR have effects on my balance & coordination?" I am trying to learn a few different martial arts, and I am worried about this possible effect. I have already noticed increased sweating & appetite loss.

If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes. I have been reading such negative information about the side effects of Effexor, and even worse, the are withdrawal symptoms if you have to get off of it. m sure your dr has you increasing the dose because at higher doses it has some effects on dopomine. Stay with effexor xr do not switch to regular effexor- bad side effects!!! I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.

Buspar did the same thing for me years back, I just felt like i was trading the anxiety/panic for a whole new set of problems with the side effects I was having, though I know others have taken it with no side effects.

I can give you my experiece withdrawing from Effexor. The first time I quit Effexor XR , I did not taper, the doctor switched me to Prozac the next day. I did pretty good,..no real side effects. The second time I went off Effexor w/o being under a doctor's care, I just quit cold turkey...do not try this, it was a really bad experience and I would never do this again. You did not mention how many Mgs. of Effexor you are taking.

I am now trying to wean myself off the Effexor and the side effects are significant (vertigo, confusion...) and the hot flashes seem worse than ever! Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate these without antidepressants? I need some help, it is impacting my quality of life and it is very uncomfortable at work. I appreciate any suggestions.

so Effexor is kind of like a mild stimulant like Wellbutrin cause I was kinda thinking about try that.

Hi, I live in England and my doctor gave me no choice but put me on to generic Venlafaxine. Now reading Hensley's reply, I am worried it will not help me. I was told it was exactly the same as Effexor XR. I was on Effexor XL before. I don't know what the difference is. Hensley knows so much about drugs. I know nothing, just trust my doctor to put me on one he thinks will help me. Didn't know I could ask him to put me on the proper drug not the generic.

Time will tell whether the side effects are more tolerable than those associated with Effexor XR or not. Because unless Wyeth releases the drug at a lower price point than Effexor XR (which is highly unlikely), Pristiq will have to prove itself as more than just another antidepressant. IMO sometimes the older AD meds work better, although most of them do have a higher occurance of side effect. Some people are more resistant to AD meds than other. Why this is so is not fully understood.

i did ..... effexor withdrawls are the nastiest ur doc is right u should taper slower ZOLOFT is gr8 for anxiety effexor is good for both .......but when it comes to me ZOLOFT rox....

I previously experience HORRIBLE side effects from sudden withdrawal of effexor. I had palpitations, pounding heart, profuse sweating, and jerking motions of arms and legs (seizure-like). So I was off it in a month and put on Celexa. My Rx co-pay went from $48 per month to $4 at Wal-Mat. I'm a happy camper.

Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible. I have nausea, dizziness, a swoshing feeling when I turn my head from side to side and just feel bad overall. I have been cranky and moody.
