effexor xr for migraine prevention

I was prescribed Effexor XR 75 mg and took it for 4 days. I experienced moderate nausea until day 2 when a migrane headache started. It's so painful that I can hardly see straight, and I only get relief while lying down. I'm on day three with the migrane and it's been 36 hours since I last took the Effexor. When can I expect the headache to go away? I've missed two days of work for it already.

Has anybody here tried Effexor extended release for migraine prevention? I read on Dr Hain's website that they use Effexor as a first drug for migraine nowadays. Would be interesting to hear what people has to say about it; side effects, effects, how long you can be on it, the need to up the dosage, etc?

What is the maximum dosage for Effexor XR? Also, is it advisable to take with Lorazapham?

I have been on antidepressives since 2000. For the last 3 years, it has been Effexor XR...following my daughter's death, my dose was increased to 225mg/daily. Well, when my medical insurance changed...I determined that I had to switch to a generic...could no longer afford the copays. In January, my MD directed me on how to wean myself from Effexor XR...so I could begin a generic form of Celexa. My God. If this is what withdrawal is like, I am fortunate that I never abused drugs.

Has anyone tried the generic for of the regular effexor. My insurance is way more the effexor xr. The regular effexor has a generic.

Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR. Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same. You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?

I am taking Effexor XR and it has been a lifesaver for me. I am on Arimidex and was having hot flashes and was depressed after breast cancer treatment. I had been on it before and stopped taking it without any problem. I know everybody is different. It sure helped me!!!

Now I have no insurance, meaning, I cannot pick up my Effexor XR, Levothroid, Zocor (for cholesteral)and also my trazadone for sleep. The only thing I was able to pick up was my xanax 1mg 2X daily. It was only $19.00. As for the rest, what kind of danger am I going to be in not taking these meds. I have been taken all the above mentioned meds for 3 years or longer. What am I to do??? Thank You. I have never taken an antidepressant before. At age 73 can I take Effexor XR 37.5 for the rest of my life so that I do not go through withdrawal having to stop?

I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.

You may want to switch that generic Venlafaxine to Effexor XR and perhap talk to you doc about adding Lithium. Good thing about Lithium is even if you don't have Bi-polar, it will still help a lot as an add on medication for your Effexor XR. Generic Venlafaxine has no sustained release properties to it. This can pose a problem because it has such a short half life as atidepressants go. making the switch to Effexor XR and adding Lithium should make a world of difference.

i've been taking Effexor XR for almost 2 years now with 150mg a day. It's been fabulous and has always manage to control my anxiety and depression. On Monday 25 i came down with a fever and started to get really sick. On Wed 27th i was prescribed Rulide, and I took it asap. By Friday morning i was suffering from bad anxiety attacks in the morning, weird and just disturbing dreams in the morning, and a sense of low self worth and depression.

My daughter has been on Effexor XR 150 MG for about a year. She recently found out that her insurance would not pay for this medicine. Her Dr. put her on Zoloft without wheening her off of the Effexor XR. She is experience symptoms that include feeling very dizzy and nausea. Is this Dr. correct prescribing her this new medicine without slowly wheening her off of the Effexor XR. Are these symptoms due to her going "Cold Turkey" with the Effexor XR? Please advised.

I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??

I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.

The dr gave me generic effexor xr to try instead of regular effexor xr.... i took them over the weekend, had a headache and was tired all weekend..... yesterday i decided to switch back to my reg effexor xr, and my head was clear, i didnt have that heavy tired feeling in my head....i got so much done yesterday i havent felt likethat in so long....today its back to that heavy tired feeling, i was so excited about that feeling yesterday........ how upsetting.....i want that feeling back....

If you gain weight as a side effect of your medication, inform your doctor for management that is suited for you. There are plenty of migraine medications available in the market and it usually is trial and error before you get to know which works for you. Good Afternoon, It is worth noting that Wyeth Pharmaceuticals currently has a patent for Effexor XR. While there is a generic extended release version of venlafaxine available, it is not exactly the same as the brand name (Because of the patent). The headaches you are experiencing may be caused by some of the inert ingredients in the generic brand. Knowing this, I would take the samples back to your Dr. and continue using the brand name since you already know it works for you.

Can anyone give me a comparison between Effexor XR and Zoloft for severe anxiety. My Psycharist has just put me on Effexor XR 37.5. I have also ben prescribed Zoloft in the last 6 months but never took it. I have taken Effexor XR 37.5 for two months but quit cold turkey because of the cost, side effects. I really do not want to start Effexor again because of the nasty withdrawal. Anyone had experience with either or both? With Zoloft, is it difficult to sleep at night?

ve had breif stints of taking Effexor XL to prove to new insurance companies that I truely need brand name and the XR version. My copay has risen to $123/ month for the Effexor XR, so my doctor suggested we try Pristiq for the rebates to cut costs. I did as my MD sugessted and alternated 225 to 150 mg x 8 days before begining Pristiq at 50 mg. About 6 to 7 days after making the switch, I had maniac like symptoms (hyperalert, sexual,with a "tingling/buzzing" feeling.

m wondering if maybe Effexor XR is too strong for me and maybe just the regular Effexor would be more suitable? I like the fact that I'm wired and on task all day, but the headaches aren't fun. My therapist says that if cutting my dose down on the Effexor XR resolves the headaches then she has to take me off of it altogether. I am supposed to start taking pristiq 50mg. along with effexor xr 75mg for a week and then effexor xr 37.5mg along with the pristiq for a week, and then just pristiq. I am afraid, seeing how just being off effexor for 7 hrs. put me in E.R. The Doctor said pristiq won't do that if I miss or am late on a dose. He better be right.
