effexor

Avatar n tn However, it is not uncommon for some side effects to resolve within 1-2 weeks. Discussing the possible benefits, risks, and side effects of medications with your doctor may help you make the best informed decision.
Avatar n tn Has anyone taken this drug? What were your side effects? My brother has taken Xanax, Paxil, Seroquel, Ativan, Remeron and nothing has helped. He has very severe anxiety and depression. Please need your feedback.
Avatar f tn i was on it for 5 years and had many side effects that i thought were caused by something else.and getting off it was just terrible. take care.
Avatar n tn I'm a stay at home Mom of a 3 year old and since deciding to try for #2, my husband and I thought it would be safest to be med free during my pregnancy, since the effects of Effexor in pregnancy has not really been studied. I took 75mg of Effexor XR for a little over a year for general anxiety. I have been weaning for almost 3 months as gradually as I could. My last weaning was for almost a month at 18.5mg.
Avatar n tn Actually I should just say I am stoping the medication cold turkey, since I am just not taking any pills at all each day. Yes, there are side effects. Are the side effects so severe that a person cannot tolerate them? Absolutely not. You need to tough it out, get this drug out of your system, and start exercising 5 times a week, especially cardiovascular exercise. Don't listen to all these doctors who tell you Effexor is the answer to your problems. It absolutely is not the answer.
Avatar n tn I just thought I'd let everyone know, I was on Effexor XR for 7 years the side effects were horrible and the withdrawls were almost unbearable. But I went to a psychologist to help me get off of them, it took a year of tapering from 150mg to 75mg I was on 75 mg for 3 months and then tapered to 37.5 for a month .... then a month of every other day tapering on 37.5 ... the side effects come from you brain chemistry being completely thrown off..
Avatar n tn I just discontinued taking Effexor XR and it was the most difficult and painful thing I have ever done! The side effects for me were: increased depression, confusion, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, and on and on and on... I am so angry that the drug company (Wyeth) and the doctor didn't know what I was talking about! How can they not know? They do clinical trials. Just ridiculous! I signed the petition to have it reviewed by the FDA (I was about # 4,500, so I know I'm not alone).
Avatar n tn Today I found this site and read practically every comment , article as well as personal testimonies from fellow Effexor XR survivors. My question is not one of how to reduce or manage withdrawal symptoms ( have fully discussed with GP and Psychiatrist all aspects ) however I get nowhere when trying to find out high dosage over long term effects medically . I've been on 300mg, 150mg in morning and again at bedtime.
Avatar n tn I of course would not know---- but encourage you really to be seen by your doctor as this migraine is persisting. Headache can occur with effexor XR but it has a low discontinuation rate meaning that most people who take the drug find it to be a start up side effect that peters out over time. The type of headache you describe is not the kind anyone could tolerate. So, please see your doctor as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn I think you can consult your shrink if you could shift to effexor tabs instead of effexor xr capsules wich you can taper it gradually! FYI effexor xr in long treatments cause increase in cholestrol levels and increase blood pressure as well !
Avatar n tn Hi, I have begun Effexor Xr 37.5 mg. for basic anxiety- I worry alot.. I have gone on/ off for years, the stigma of being on meds. gets to me. I am a healthy, school teacher and am not depressed.. more like a cat on a hot tin roof, worry about alot, especially my health (not really a hypocondriac, but close!). I have had weird things happen like a virus of some sort that made my liver enzymes go out of whack.. so, 6 months of blood work, ultrasounds on liver etc..
Avatar n tn thats not always easy but u have to keep going to the doc if ur still getting symptoms. My personal opinion unless ur having bad side effects continue with effexor but keep raising the dosage if not enough. Another good thing about effexor is that its one of the few antidepressants that do not cause weight gain. when u feel like ur starting to get better keep on that dose for a while then from there on lower it gradually.
Avatar n tn I came off Effexor XR cold turkey too. It took at least two weeks for the severe side effects to diminish, and another two weeks to feel better. Thing is, my depression came back after one year, and I am on Effexor XR again. Would never stop it again as withdrawal a complete nightmare. Just support your girlfriend benji. Little you can do otherwise. I just wanted to lie down all the time and close my eyes. Hope she feels better soon. Let us know how she is.
Avatar n tn Well, being a male, I don't know anything about being pregnant, but as a father, I know plenty about worries of med reactions during pregnancy -- especially considering my wife is bipolar NOS and had to come off her meds during her second (and last) pregnancy. While that was difficult for her, I personally know it would have been truly impossible had one of her meds been Effexor XR. I am a diagnosed depressive who has been on Effexor since mid-June 2001.
Avatar n tn I tried those same things and with the same resluts--the side effects were too much. The Effexor has worked amazingly for me. I wasn't depressed, although I was getting to the point where I wasn't sure whether I might me depressed from all the constant panick attacking...which is draining and quite frankly, GETS you depressed!!! Excellent on your weaning down to 75mg...that will make it so much easier for when you do get pregnant.
Avatar n tn My doctore just put me on effexor xr daily to manage my headaches and migraines. Has anyone heard of this being prescribed for this purpose? I can't find in anything I've read where this helps with daily management of headaches.
Avatar n tn the brain shocks they talk about among other effects! TOLD HIM NOT TO TAKE THEM BUT HE TRUSTED HIS DOC! When I first started on effexor xr 8 years ago they were $150.00 a month,( I had insurance ) now they are up to $415.00, quite the racket! get them hooked raise the price... (since they can't get off them) they try... but they will go back on as they have such terrible side effects! LEGAL DRUG LAWS! Sorry to ramble...
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm new to this forum and i think i'm going to be around quite a bit over the coming weeks as i've begun to decrease my dosage of Effexor XR 150mg's once daily down to 75mg's once daily. I'v been on effexor for 12 months, lexapro 20mg's for 4 months previous to that. I'm already beginning to feel the effects of withdrawals. I knew they were coming though. I was on zoloft years ago, 2006, for 18months, and coming off that wasn't too bad for me.
Avatar n tn WENT OFF PROZAC AS IT WAS CAUSING EAR RINGING BUT I'D TAKE THAT ANY DAY TO THE SIDE EFFECTS OF EFFEXOR XR... I BELIEVE MY DR DOESN'T SEEM TO BE TOO IMPRESSED BY IT NOW EITHER.... START THEH NEW YEAR 'O6 OFF THIS TERRIBLE DRUG........
Avatar n tn After I'm on the 150 mg for several weeks, I'm cutting back a little more so I can determine the right dosage again that works for me with the least amount of side effects. Right now, I cannot sleep with this higher dose and am adjectated.
Avatar n tn and explain to him what was really wrong and get a prescription for more Effexor. What's scary is that after looking on the internet, I see that the side effects I had are common. he didn't recognize this. I also notice my dose is VERY high. No one else seems to be on 300 mg. Also, who has been on this as long as i? Can that explain the peripheral numbness I have been experiencing and periodically complaining about for YEARS????
Avatar n tn I really dont want to be on meds but last night I saw him and he said get off the Effexor xr even though its a good drug its just not for me. I had wayyyyyy tooooo many side effects that only got worse not better. I am starting Serafem (another name for Prozac) this am and also perhaps a very very small amount of Risperdal at night to sleep to help with panic and insomnia like 1/2 of a 0.25mg tab.
Avatar n tn I took myself off of the effexor because I was feeling good and the night sweating side effects became such an annoyance, that I took myself off. Since then my anxiety has returned and my doc has tried a new cocktail of zoloft and buspar, which is not working. I have used clonopin, xanex, and alprazolam as tranquilizers to help when it gets bad.
Avatar n tn Today, I decided to do a search on the side effects when coming off Effexor XR...so here I am. I started taking Effexor XR in the fall of 2001. The doctor that put me on it was a joke - he tried other stuff, finally putting me on Effexor and when it showed signs of working, he just kept increasing my dosage. Not knowing enough to advocate for myself (and half admitting that I was feeling better), I ended up on 300ml/daily. That was almost 3 1/2 years ago.
318307 tn?1193934917 i suffered a major breakdown/suicide attempt and hospitalization last year at this time for that reason and was diagnosed with mdd w/psychotic features and started on effexor xr - 150 mg per day once a day. i have since been in very effective programs for bpd (dialectical behavioral therapy), and have been taking much better care of myself and doing much better mentally and emotionally.
Avatar f tn I am currently starting the withdraw from Effexor. I told my doctor that's what I wanted to do and she offered no advice to me. She did give me a sample pac of Effexor which has 75 mg. in it and 37 mg in it. I was taking 150mg. So I have started taking the 75 mg and will decrease to the 37 mg. Please tell me what I need to do in addition to that. I take calcium blockers for high blood pressure.
Avatar n tn The third week is horrible. I'm experiencing the following side effects; vomitting, body aches, headache, hearing weird swishing sounds in my head, dizziness, exhaustion - but then when I'm asleep, I'm having terrible nightmares that are right out of a science fiction film. Should I spread this last week out over a few more weeks? Should I cut the pills in 1/2? i.e. 50mg one day, 25mg the next, 50mg the next, and so on. Then go to 25mg every day and then 25mg every OTHER day?
Avatar n tn My doctor has recently diagnosed me with anxiety disorder and gave me effexor XR starter pack. However, from what I've read here and other sites, it seems the side effects can be high blood pressure and changed heart rates. It also sounds like getting off the medication can be very difficult and there are weird effects like "shocks in the brain" feeling. The starter pack contains seven 37.5mg tablets for the first week then seven 75mg tablets for the second week.
Avatar f tn Once off of effexor then you can wean off of prozac. It is a very easy med to wean without side effects. Get your life back.
