In recent years, it had been fairly well controlled as I had started on Effexor XR over 300mg years back, and by 2014 had tapered down to 75mg per day. Last year suffered some trauma in a near fatal crash, and mentally did fine in the aftermath. In any event, after leaving the hospital last August, I ended up having relapsing symptoms. I have had what I consider to be an excellent Psychiatrist for years.

I am a 30-year-old healthy female that started taking effexor xr in January. The dosage was raised to 150mg 2 months ago. I really haven't had any side affects. I went off birth control about a month ago, after taking it for 12 years and now I feel like my body is going crazy. I am having fluid seeping from one breast, head-aches that linger all day, I am exhausted even though I get plenty of sleep, I feel nauseous and dizzy often, and I am very emotional.

I can give you my experiece withdrawing from Effexor. The first time I quit Effexor XR , I did not taper, the doctor switched me to Prozac the next day. I did pretty good,..no real side effects. The second time I went off Effexor w/o being under a doctor's care, I just quit cold turkey...do not try this, it was a really bad experience and I would never do this again. You did not mention how many Mgs. of Effexor you are taking.

Hi i am trying to find out if any1 else who takes effexor has had as many side effects as i have, which is basically them all including seizures and blackouts? I was on 375mg put due to the risk of another seizure have dropped down to 300mg. Has anyone else experienced as many side effects and do you think its worth all the side effects to be be ?( stable for now neway) .The doctors seem to think its worth it but then they dont have a load of side effects to deal with.

I have been taking Effexor 37.5 xr for about 2 1/2 weeks and keep a constant headache. I was prescribed this for night sweats. Will I have a problem if I stop taking it?

I agree with Serge144. I also had many side effects & awful withdraw symptoms. If I forgot a dose or was late taking a dose while I was on it, I was ill, felt very sick within maybe 3-4 hours of the missed dose. Google Effexor side effects & symptoms. Look for forums like this, not like Wikipedia that just give you facts. Read info that real people who have used it/been on it. See what they have to say.

I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.

I think you can consult your shrink if you could shift to effexor tabs instead of effexor xr capsules wich you can taper it gradually! FYI effexor xr in long treatments cause increase in cholestrol levels and increase blood pressure as well !

My Doctor just switch my medication from 150 mg of Effexor XR to 400 mg of Seroquel XR. I dropped my dosage of Effexor gradually but I still experienced terrible withdrawl. Now I am experiencing bad side effects, " I'm guessing ths", from the Seroquel. I have gained weight in my stomach area very rapidly, I have pain and stiffness in my legs, 24 hour dry mouth and sinuses and I feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat.

Hi, I have begun Effexor Xr 37.5 mg. for basic anxiety- I worry alot.. I have gone on/ off for years, the stigma of being on meds. gets to me. I am a healthy, school teacher and am not depressed.. more like a cat on a hot tin roof, worry about alot, especially my health (not really a hypocondriac, but close!). I have had weird things happen like a virus of some sort that made my liver enzymes go out of whack.. so, 6 months of blood work, ultrasounds on liver etc..

I have been on 40 mg of Celexa for 8 months, but was still having bad anxiety so today my doctor prescribed me 37.5 mg of Effexor XR. He was going to prescribe me Welbutrin, but I had been on that in the past and it didn't work so instead he prescribed the Effexor.

thats not always easy but u have to keep going to the doc if ur still getting symptoms. My personal opinion unless ur having bad side effects continue with effexor but keep raising the dosage if not enough. Another good thing about effexor is that its one of the few antidepressants that do not cause weight gain. when u feel like ur starting to get better keep on that dose for a while then from there on lower it gradually.

I am a 32 year-old male living in Houston. I am presently being treated for depression/anxiety with Effexor XR. I am trying to learn a few different martial arts, and I am worried about this possible effect. I have already noticed increased sweating & appetite loss.

m sure your dr has you increasing the dose because at higher doses it has some effects on dopomine. Stay with effexor xr do not switch to regular effexor- bad side effects!!! I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.

Buspar did the same thing for me years back, I just felt like i was trading the anxiety/panic for a whole new set of problems with the side effects I was having, though I know others have taken it with no side effects.

I am now trying to wean myself off the Effexor and the side effects are significant (vertigo, confusion...) and the hot flashes seem worse than ever! Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate these without antidepressants? I need some help, it is impacting my quality of life and it is very uncomfortable at work.
