114870 tn?1210298346 ve spoken to the doctor and they will be doing pleurodesis under general anesthesia with talc. I know this method has the highest success in getting rid of the fluid without recurrence. My new questions are: Does MPE mean end stages/ end of life? If the pleurodesis does work 100%, complete recovery, and no fluid comes back does that increase her life expectancy more then if it only works 50%, partial recovery, meaning the fluid will come back in several months?
Avatar m tn My son had a dextrose pleurodesis followed by a 5g talc pleurodesis the following week because the dextrose didn't hold up. He had a tough recovery because of muscle spasms in his lower chest. 9 months later, he hasn't fully recovered. He still has a tough time feeling comfortable doing basic stuff like watching a movie or drawing. He's constantly take deep breath because his lungs feels stiff and needs to lay down about 10x a day.
Avatar f tn The small, bilateral pleural effusions could be due to the pleurodesis or to the pneumonia. This is the most likely cause on the right side, if I am correct in assuming that you had a unilateral pleurodesis on the left side only. And, they may be clotted or congealed and not liquid effusions, at all. Pleural fluid is seldom associated with pneumothoraces and almost never precedes a pneumothorax. I would not interpret the presence of these “effusions” as a forerunner of recurrent “drama”.
Avatar m tn I have got a 10% pneumothorax on the right side (1 week before I stopped smoking, however, I was not a strong smoker). Now, they doctors want to treat me with talc pleurodesis and pleurectomy. What is the best treatment in your opinion? Ant what is the recurrence rates (risks) in the described procedure above?
433032 tn?1205034345 I have a very rare lung disease that caused me to have 8+ Pneumothoraces in the year 2005.(chest tubes - hospitalize 3-7 days at time for each) In December I had a Pleurodesis done on my left lung (adheres the lung to the inside of the chest cavity) so it would stop collapsing! (Both of my lungs are full of blebs/cysts - when one of them ruptures/bursts that causes my lung to collapse.) I have been in pain ever since I had that procedure done!!
Avatar n tn Hi, post pleurodesis there could be some discomfort due to the fibrous tissue which forms due to healing. But if there is fluid collection and persistent pain it could indicate an infection. This is more so if you have fever and cough or breathlessness. Check with your doctor to rule out an infection. Regards.
Avatar n tn Once they began surgery, more than 48 hours had passed since it occured, they could not find what they went in looking for. Pleurodesis was his backup. For the next three days everytime they turned off my pump my lung would start to collapse again. 9 long days later I finally was released with strict orders to take it easy. Now that you have my history... My question is how long should this pain last?!?!
Avatar f tn Hi, the causes of pleural effusion are bacterial pneumonia, cancer, viral infection, tuberculosis (this is the most common cause of pleural effusion in some developing countries)left ventricular failure, pulmonary embolism, and cirrhosis, autoimmune disease such as systemic lupus erythematosus etc Repeated effusions are generally treated with chemicals (talc, bleomycin, tetracycline etc) or surgical pleurodesis, where the two pleural surfaces are adhered to each other so that no fluid can accu
Avatar f tn A week later I was rushed to the ER with another larger pneumothorax of the left lung again where I was hospitalized for 2 weeks. I had pleurodesis and cyst removal done to my lung. After that, the doctor noticed I always have protein in my urine, and sometimes blood in my urine. I was referred to a nephrologist but she saw nothing serious enough to do something about it. Then in July of 2011 I was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst on my right ovary that had ruptured and was removed.
Avatar f tn If so then go to the er, you could have a minor collapsed lung, or Pleurodesis which is when the lining around the lung becomes inflammed and can be very uncomfortable and even painful. These symptoms could easily be a mild back ache and in no way related to your lungs. please don;t let me worry you. you know your body bettre than anyone and you should no when something feels wrong enough to seek medical attention. Good luck.

Avatar f tn I took Doxycycline for 10 days to treat a sinus infection. A week after finishing the Doxy I developed a sore throat and sore tongue. I'm assuming it is a reaction to the drug. How long will this stay in my system and is there anything I can take to alleviate the reaction?
Avatar n tn I have been on doxycycline an antibiotic for about 5 days and i seem to be feeling very anxious and panic like. Does anyone know if this can cause these symptoms. I am also on 25mg of zoloft. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Avatar m tn My husband has yellow nail syndrome, and for the last 6 months has had considerable fluid buildup in the lung cavity. His doctor is now trying Octreotide, which has been shown to reduce chylous pleural effusions, but he has non-chylous so it's too soon to see if this will work. His doctors wanted to do talc pleurodesis, which glues the lungs to the lung cavity (and blocks the fluid from going there) but he doesn't want this since where would the blocked fluid go?
Avatar n tn I seem to be having a rash reaction to Doxycycline and have taken Benedryl...so far, no other symptoms after 10 hours. If I keep taking Doxy for the next 10 days, will my symptoms likely get worse or stay the same? With such a long half life, I'm likely to have this experience for several days anyway.
Avatar m tn 1) Would 5 days of doxycycline and on day 6 the 1.5 g zithromax cure chlamydia if present? 2) I used zithromax back in july for an ear infections. Would this build up resistance against chlamydia due to overuse of zithromax?
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with NGU and was prescribed doxycycline 100mg bid for 7 days. My physician said to abstain from sex until all the medication was gone. That is exactly what I did. I ended up having sex 4 to 5 hours after I took my last dose of doxycycline on day 7. Did I put my partner at risk by having sex so soon after treatment? Also, I took 13 out of the 14 pills. (I choked one of the pills back up and spit it out). Would that have an impact on the meds efficacy?
