Avatar n tn But the insomnia was miserable so I called my doctor to ask if there was anything I could do for the side effects, so he switched me to 3 wks of doxycycline, which I started taking immediately. Now I sleep OK but after two days the symptoms are back in full force. I'm wondering if I made a mistake in switching. Have others had similar experiences? Is doxy just slower to take effect?

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for about 8.3 million doctor visits each year.* Women are especially prone to UTIs for reasons that are not yet well understood. One woman in five develops a UTI during her lifetime. UTIs in men are not as common as in women but can be very serious when they do occur. Normally, urine is sterile.

Avatar m tn A cephalosporin (such as ceftriaxone) combined with doxycycline is an alternative. Azithromycin can be used for susceptible strains. In children, quinolones and doxycycline are best avoided. Since bacteria that cause urinary tract infections are often the cause of epididymitis in children, co-trimoxazole or suited penicillins (for example, cephalexin) can be used. Avatar n tn Bacteria are the most common cause of cystitis, and may be introduced into the urinary system for many reasons. Infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea can cause symptoms similar to cystitis, particularly when they are present in young, sexually active men. You are on the right antibiotics. Plesae continue on the same. Refer: http://www.cobfoundation.org/BC/bacterialCystitis.

Avatar m tn Hi, If it is as small as you estimate - the ultrasound may be a better tool. If it is also as small as you say, chances are it is not causing the symptoms. If there is pain, chances are that there is an infection. The infection usually comes from the urinary tract. If you don't have any risk factors for sexually acquired infections - then your doctor may consider an anomalous urinary tract and evaluate this possibility. Pain may also come from overlaps in the nerves.
Avatar f tn It's common to get uti within the first trimester. I had one at 8 weeks, I'm not sure what antibiotics they put me on but I'm 31weeks now and my baby boy is perfectly healthy. Dr's won't put you on any medication that will harm your baby unless it would be more harmful for you not to take it. I have epilepsy as well and they took me off of the medication I was on and put me on something safer for the baby.

These infections are very difficult to completely suppress, and most patients with them suffer from relapses due to persistence of the infection after treatment. Long-term antibiotics like doxycycline are often used against Mycoplasma species (see Treatment Considerations, www.immed.org) with various degrees of success.
Avatar n tn A couple years ago I started developing chronic urinary infections. There was always some mild bleeding with these. I take medication from the doctor, it would go away, and then a few months later it would be back. Sometimes the urine tests would come back negative. No one knew what was happening. I started keeping a log of when this started and what I was doing different. I realized that I had started drinking a lot of ice tea.
1390055 tn?1365615055 I was wondering if anyone here has used Doxycycline to treat a urinary tract infection and the resulting effects of their treatment have been. I have been prescribed this medication due to a suspected urinary tract infection possibly caused by an STD, even though all of these STDs: HIV, Syphilis, Chylmadia, Gonorrea, have been done WELL outside of their testing window, and they have all come back negative. Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma are possibilities.
