Avatar f tn He probably ate something that did not agree with his stomach. One safe way to get rid of stomach bacteria / virus is by taking Activated Charcoal pills. Its the same charcoal we give in the Emergency room to absorb - remnants of drug overdose. Then it passes out thru the stools. The bottle will have instructions as to how to take it. In his case, it will absorb whatever is causing his sickness. This same activated charcoal is one of the Cures for Traveler's Diarrhea.
Avatar f tn "Traveler's diarrhea" that is caused by parasites (food or water poisoning) often starts with some delay and it may also last for ...weeks...Ova & parasites tests of the stool would show if you have parasites. Treatment is with antibiotics. If you do not treat it diarrhea may last for weeks and even after healing some parasites may stay in your bowel...
Avatar n tn Dear Debra, For your conference and the part of your trip when you are staying in the 5-star hotel, you will be in "developed world" conditions. And, for the excursions and "off the menu" parts of your trip, you in and of our "developing world" conditions.
Avatar m tn I am a 27 years old guy and recently i went to Thailand and received an unprotected oral sex from a masseuse. I started feeling stomach issues from the same day and after two days i got diarrhea(gastritis) followed by headache, stiff neck and backache after few days. I visited a doctor when i came back and he said that most probably its a traveler's diarrhea because of food and alcohol. After another 10 days i got mild sore throat, ear blockage and body pain.
Avatar f tn About 3 weeks ago, I had sex with a commercial sex worker. I have had no previous history of any STI/STD (only had one sexual partner prior). During the intercourse the condom came off a few times, and I think there may have been a point where my penis was inside uncovered. I also received unprotected oral sex. Since then I have been extremely paranoid and suffering anxiety.
Avatar n tn I have been on doxycycline an antibiotic for about 5 days and i seem to be feeling very anxious and panic like. Does anyone know if this can cause these symptoms. I am also on 25mg of zoloft. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Avatar f tn I honestly feel that my anxiety played a large role in any/all symptoms I experienced except for the diarrhea. Is the diarrhea bout anything to worry about/does it sound like acute HIV infection?

Avatar f tn Hi, I'm unable to post to the general Gastroenterology forum. My basic question is this: Have you ever seen cases of IBS present with one-sided flank pain rather than abdominal pain? Stats/History: Healthy, active 34-year-old female, 5'6" 135 pounds. 2 prior C-sections, Hashimoto's disease (well controlled for 2+ years with Levoxyl), mild asthma Background: I traveled to Mexico (Cabo) in mid-October. I had traveler's diarrhea for a few days.
Avatar f tn Hi, i was taking doxycycline 100 mg orally twice, i was mild diarrhea which was slightly bloody in color and mild fever. I stopped the medicine after 6 days. But now i have back pain, as if though some nerve is bejng yanked. The pain extends to the legs when i sleep or sit for long. I am unable to sleep, the pains gets severe. I can walk normally and pain releives a little when i stand. Please tell me what this could be and what doctor should i visit.
Avatar m tn Welcome to our Forum. We get many questions of this sort. It is my pleasure to tell you that the ARS would not start within 3-4 days of exposure to in infected partner. It takes far longer than that for the virus to enter the body, replicate and then to elicit an antibody response which is a major part of what causes the ARS. Your symptoms, as you imply, do not match up well with the ARS (no rash, sore throat, etc) either.
Avatar n tn Dear Maggie: In order to allow for enough time to bring your vaccinations up-to-date, it is generally recommended that you see a travel medicine/health provider about 6-8 weeks prior to your departure. Recommended vaccinations: if you are not up-to-date with routine shots such as, measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT) vaccine, influenza ("flu"), etc. Typhoid and Hepatitis A are recommended for all travelers to Peru.
Avatar n tn t eat anything, and vomited 2-3 more times before I slept. The next day, my body traded the vomiting for explosive diarrhea, 5-6 times a day for the next 3-4 days. I'm a chef, so the first thing I did was treat myself for any type of food-born illness - I ate only plain foods for the next 2 days, drank only bottled water (I had been doing this since I arrived), et cetera. The abdominal cramps continued, and so did the diarrhea. It's been a full 5 weeks now.
Avatar m tn I traveled to Thailand and had sexual intercourse with two sex workers at the same time. I am worried that there may have been some urethra to vaginal opening contact prior to the condom being on. I received oral sex without a condom from both girls before sex. Then we progressed to the soapy massage where one of the girls rubbed her body all over mine. I was erect without a condom and it was very slippery.
Avatar f tn Time traveler's wife with pregnancy hormones lol. I wasnt like this with my daughter but this pregnancy has my soooo emotional lol! Any of you ladies this way too?? With what???
Avatar f tn I was recently traveling and have been taking 100mg of Doxycycline per day as an anti malarial drug. First dose was taken on March 4th. On March 17-18 I had an episode of travelers diarrhea (as did at least 50% of my fellow travelers, so it must have been something at the hotel breakfast or restaurant we ate at for lunch the day before). Shortly thereafter, around March 29th, I came down with a common cold. My poor body feels like a war zone!!!
Avatar f tn Yes I had all the tell tale signs in the beginning. Have been on and off doxycycline. Now I find out my latest blood results havnt even changed. How is this possible after being on antibiotics for nearly a year. Some days I feel better than others. My main thing I have is the muscle and joint pain. I go back to my doc on the 14th. Will this ever go away? Will this just keep getting worse. I'm afraid that eventually I'll be in a wheelchair haha. Sometimes the joint pain gets pretty bad.
