About a month ago I contracted chlamydia with associated joint pain. I took a single 2g dose of azithromycin. Additionally, I have SIBO and constipation predominant IBS. The azithromycin helped with the chlamydia symptoms as well as the IBS symptoms, significantly alleviating my bloating. However, towards the end of the week I started having some urethral irritation again and fairly bad joint pain.
I was supposed to take 100 mg( 1 pill daily) of Doxycycline for 14 days..But I took this antibiotic(1 pill daily) only for 7 days because it gave me side effects like liver pain,raised ALT and thrush in my mouth. and then I stopped taking it.
Now I do not know what to do next and I have some questions for you .
1. Did Doxycycline ( taken 1 pill daily only for 7 days instead of 14) cure my infection with chlamydia or not?
2. Will I have to take another antibiotic to be sure?
can you please help me if any other antibiotic or combination antibiotic can help me get through this condition. I am still on doxycycline for last 6 week, right now urethritis, sometimes testicular pain, left knee pain, conjunctivitis on left side , all are there.
Hi have been on Doxycycline for a suspected urinary tract infection for 7 days(2 x 100mg daily)and have nearly finished the course. My glands in my neck though have seemed to have swollen slightly. I was wondering if this could be caused by the antibiotic?

I have had some brain fog and dizziness but blamed it on aging, stress or being very busy. I work out all week and we have a beef farm as well.
I have always just pushed through.....now its hard for me to get out of bed in the morning as far as drive goes and that is not me.
I apologize that I missed your original mention of doxycycline. Having had 2 courses of it, no STD is a possible explanation of any ongoing symptoms or abnormal lab tests. Whether or not you started with an STD component to explain the earliest abnormality in your urine, I cannot say.
However, another possibility comes to mind, which may or may not be related to your sexual encounter or to STD. Has reactive arthritis (formerly called Reiter's syndrome) come up for discussion?
After consulting with my doctor, he tested me for STD (incl Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis and HIV both antibody and NAAT HIV virus DNA test) and while waiting for the results he prescribed Doxycycline, and an injection for speculating possible Gonorrhea and/or Chlamydia.A week later all the tests results came back negative and the symptoms went away, but only for a short period of time.Since then the same symptoms have been reoccurring every few months.

I was only on two antibiotics at the same time, and didn't have the kind of discomfort you report.
Ask your doc what can be done, whether other treatments would be less problematic, etc.
Also I would NOT take any herbals or medicinals or anything in that frame of reference UNLESS your Lyme doc okays it as to what meds/supplements you take at what doses for how long. Herbs and pharmaceuticals are all just chemicals, and mixing them without a doc's okay is just asking for trouble.
Ive been on doxycycline for 3 1/2 days, and the discharge has not gone away at all.. may have even worsened. My vagina hurts excruciatingly every time I pee. How long till the pain and discharge goes away?
