The recommended antibiotic for the treatment of Lyme disease in non-pregnant adults is doxycycline, however, doxycycline is not ideal for breastfeeding mothers due to its long half-life and greater uptake into human milk than alternative treatments. Other antibiotics such as amoxicillin, cefuroxime, clarithromycin and azithromycin are preferred since their levels of transmission into breastmilk have been measured and are minimal.

I took Doxycycline for 10 days to treat a sinus infection. A week after finishing the Doxy I developed a sore throat and sore tongue. I'm assuming it is a reaction to the drug. How long will this stay in my system and is there anything I can take to alleviate the reaction?

I seem to be having a rash reaction to Doxycycline and have taken Benedryl...so far, no other symptoms after 10 hours. I was recently diagnosed with NGU and was prescribed doxycycline 100mg bid for 7 days. My physician said to abstain from sex until all the medication was gone. That is exactly what I did. (I choked one of the pills back up and spit it out). Would that have an impact on the meds efficacy?

Ive just been prescribed doxycycline to cure my chlamydia (i hope finally) and i know i have to take it for seven days and refrain from sex. But after the seven days, am i ok to have sex again with my partner?? do we need to wear a condom?? or will it be cured?
The tetracyclines, including doxycycline and minocycline, are bacteriostatic unless given in high doses. If high blood levels are not attained, treatment failures in early and late disease are common. However, these high doses can be difficult to tolerate. For example, doxycycline can be very effective but only if adequate blood levels are achieved either by high oral doses (300 to 600 mg daily) or by parenteral (IV) administration.
Hi, I am 38 and I have two boys 10 and 8; I breastfeeding them for around a year to each one. My Dr found the GM one year ago and I had had abcesses each three months I donot why but is each three month and in the same side of my right breast. I had been in a treatment with prednisone and Methotrexate for one year but the abscess goes away and comes back, so I guess that the medicine is not working in my body, at less not for the GM, b/c is killing me with the side effects.
Should i change to azithromycin and stop the doxycycline regime, or just stay with doxycycline? Which is the right choice of drug ? By the way , the first doctor also suggested taking doxycycline & at the same time getting treated with penicillin injection daily for 1 week, will this be effective or too much at once?
My dr wanted me to take doxycycline due to the prostate problem, but I am worry if doxycycline can impact sperm and fertility. Any experience and information is very appreciated.
