I had to take a relatively high dose of doxycycline for a month and I have been feeling completely lifeless since then. I have absolutely no energy. My liver tests were all ok but the bilirubin was just within the normal range and the cholinesterase (?) was very high. I’m afraid I have a cute fatty liver that is often caused by tetracyclines....
I have always wondered about if I should get any blood work to see if my body is handling everything okay like a LFT or liver panel. And if it is bad to take it for prolonged periods of time. Though it works great for my acne, i don't want to harm the rest of my body. Do you know anything about this?
Oh and i have looked up plenty of things about doxy and there is a long list of side effects for this antibiotic.
In fact, there would be no harm in discussing the Doxycycline reatment and your concerns about side effects with your vet anyway, and it would be perfectly in order to call the vet's office, ask if there is a time during the day you can speak to your vet when he is not busy. No doubt he will call you back when he has a moment to discuss the treatment with you.
He is eating but very sick. I have some Doxycycline Monohydrate 100 mg. capsules and was wondering if this type of antibiotic is safe to administer to cats? I can not afford any vet at all right now, but I need to do something. If Doxycycline Monohydrate is not okay, is grape flavor liquid tylenol for infants?

He was admitted couple of times for severe headache and the elevated liver enzymes. He had spinal tap so meningitis was ruled out. Hepatitis was tested and all was negative. He was partially positive for Lyme but when retested he showed negative. CT on abdomen, MCRP on abdomen normal. MRI on head normal. Slightly elevated for CMV virus. He already had mono as a kid so they say no way he can have it again.
I was treated twice with Doxycycline (2 mos.) for the Lymes but the treatment did not work and the doctors suspected that I may not have Lupus but had Lymes the entire time. In July 2009, a year later, I was tested and the IGM Lymes test was again positive. The neurologist confirmed I have Lymes Disease but told me that it should have showed up on the IGG test and not the IGM test because of the length of time I have had Lymes. Now I have numerous questions.

s still yellowish. What causes his yellow color? and Yes,doxycycline is the antibiotic prescribed by the vet and also liverolin (a syrup from India i guess) to protect his liver. I'm also concern about his kidney, is the kidney disease caused by lepto still reversible? Is it chronic or acute? I failed to ask the vet about this.
I just hope he gets better, he's my bestfriend and a very sweet dog too.

Its been three days after I completed my course of Doxycycline and still I feel tired and feverish,also my face is itchy on cheek and around my lips,mild headache,pain in thighs and some times my testicles pain.
I have an appointment with urologisit this friday.
It will be a great help if you can advise me what it is? based on your experience.

It was my understanding that you could drink moderately with most ATB's. But to double check I did some searching on the internet. The following is from a trusted web site.

Doxycycline 100 mgm by mouth twice/day for 6 weeks and then once/day for 3-6 months is a common treatment of blepharitis and meibomian gland disease. instead, i juz told her my prob and she diagnosed me wif oesophagus reflux(side effect of doxycycline) meanin the acid in my stomach traveled up to my esophagus causing irritation and prescibe me wif anacid.
i read somewhere that if i were to take doxycycline, i must not take anacid because it will lessen the effectiveness of doxycycline.
so, now i'm at a lost again..
I was just diagnosed with lyme disease and will be taking Doxycycline for 30 days. Can anyone tell me if I must avoid dairy entirely or just avoid it a couple of hours before and after taking this antibiotics?

I suggest you lay off the internet. You're obviously very anxious about all this, and in that state of mind you will only find information to inflame and prolong your fears. All is well; nothing bad is going to come from this.

see your doctor. and realize that you canNOT treat all STDs and that MDs do NOT have good tests for all STDs. some STDS we just call em when we see them. so they can say "i don't think you have herpes" but then you could have it. unless they do a blood test
and for men, then don't have a test for HPV...
