Avatar m tn Permethrin and oral ivermectin are the best treatment options of scabies. Sometimes itching of scabies persists for a few days after completion of treatment also and sometimes there may be recurrent and chronic cases which may require oral treatment of ivermectin. It is basically reserved for very severe, chronic and stubborn scabies that does not respond to conventional therapies.
369533 tn?1207588462 There is an issue with the thinness of the blood brain barrier in these breeds in that it allows the molecules to pass through, and ivermectin toxicosis is almost a given in these breeds. Since you have a boxer, if ivermectin is available in the UK, this would be a good option for you to look into.
Avatar n tn Having worked as a tech for a vet dermatologist we saw a lot of demodex. It is a hard condition to treat but you must get a vet who knows what they are doing. Oral Ivernectin is the best and most effective way to treat. your vet needs to do skin scraping in between the toes and look under the microscope to keep track of the number of mites and whether they are alive or dead. They'll keep mutiplying and spread throughout the skin if not treated.
Avatar m tn Demodex indections can be severe and painful so it is good that you are reaching out for more information. I have had some very successful experience treating these conditions and while it does take time, you should not be seeing a worsening of the condition. Amitraz is not often used, I certainly have never used it. Instead I had my patients on a regular regimen of oral ivermectin, omega fatty acids (to help stimulate the skins immune system), sometimes antibiotics, and regular shampooing.
Avatar f tn I checked that and my dr says that ivermectin has no effect on tapeworms...How sure are you on that? Did you have a case? Is Hymenolepis nana lifetreatining?
Avatar n tn There are several medications that can be lethal for collies, and ivermectin is one of the most widely used of these drugs. Loperamide, or Immodium (the popular antidiarrheal drug) is another. If your dog is a collie, collie cross or breed developed using the collie, it's mandatory to do testing first to see if it possesses the MDR1 gene mutation. If it does NOT, then ivermectin can be used to treat the mange.
Avatar n tn If mange is the culprit, as jaybay has already said, ivermectin is the treatment of choice. Like with griselfulvin, though, ivermectin is not without its risks, and, depending upon what breed or breeds make up the dog's genotype, ivermectin can be extremely dangerous to use on them. The dogs that ivermectin can be dangerous for are collies, and any breeds that were developed by mixing collies with other dogs.
Avatar f tn Check out GardenWeb and click on pets. You can find your way to the forum on "Ivomec dosage for dogs... yet again" and get a ton of info. Or you can just google "ivermectin wormer for dogs" and look for the GardenWeb link. Collies and some other herding breeds can't have ivermectin or "Ivomec" at least in normal dosage or maybe not at all but there are a ton of posts just on this one subject. I hope you see this and check it out.

It is basically reserved for very severe, chronic and stubborn scabies that does not respond to conventional therapies. So you should continue the permethrin treatment for a few days more and if the symptoms persist then oral ivermectin may need to be prescribed.
Avatar f tn ve got to develop some new modes of dealing with re-emergent pests. I wish us all luck, and oils and scrapers and combs and fine milled diatomaceous earths.
1532940 tn?1292235521 Hello, It may be due to recurrent scabies for which you may need another round of permethrin and ivermectin. Permethrin and oral ivermectin are the treatment options of scabies. Sometimes there may be recurrent and chronic cases which may require oral treatment of ivermectin. Also permethrin has to be used head to the bottom of the feet, paying special attention to skin folds and the webs between fingers and toes and this cream has to be left for 10-14 hours.
881890 tn?1286553760 m not talking about seasonal shedding either, this is her outer coat and it comes out by the handfuls. So the ivermectin helps to a point but her scratching and biting continues. Other hair loss is seen on the tips/margins of her ears. Most of the biting occurs on her legs, back and chest, basically everywhere she can reach. No licking of the feet and she does not react to the pinnal-pedal reflex test. She's also and indoor dog so flies are not the issue on her ears.
Avatar f tn Does everyone realize that most health problems are of some kind of parasite and taking the Ivermectin pill and anbenaze pill is most likely the answer?
Avatar f tn So you should continue the permethrin treatment for a few days more and if the symptoms persist then oral ivermectin may need to be prescribed. There is a rule that all family members of the patient of scabies also need to be treated even if they do not have any itching or rashes. Hence please ensure that all your family members also get the topical treatment.

Avatar m tn My exposure in this is i was scratchd very badly in my back from one lady with her nails and i knew she was hiv+ and that was in DEC 2010 and i was safe with a preservatif. so from there is where i startd to develope these itchy until now. I keep testd hiv negetive until today and now it scabies. is scabies a very dangerouse desease? do i have to worry about hiv? can scabies get killd forever after treatment and how long a proper treatment can last? plz i want ur help, answer me.
Avatar n tn Actually scabies is an easy treat with Revolution applied immediately as long as the dog tests heartworm negative and then treated again in 2 weeks and then 2 weeks after that. Demodex is treated with Ivermectin although some breeds cannot take ivermectin. Strangely hypothyroidism can produce these symptoms too. Either way it warrants a trip to the vet asap as some of these conditions are transmittable to humans so you need to get things diagnosed and treated.
