I have been diagnosed with folliculitis, and have been prescribed Doxycycline. I have been taking it now for almost two months and I have gained 10lbs very quick. I am still very active and have done nothing different as far as my diet goes. Is this a possible side effect of the antibiotic.
10 Days ago, I noticed a small scab on my scrotum (I also shave my genitals and have had folliculitis in the past and was on Cipro at this point).I picked the scab off, and placed hydrogen peroxide on it. It fizzed and it was a bit painful and bled a little when I squeezed it. It looked a lot like a syphilis Chancre (an ulcer with a yellowish crust and a crater edge). It seemed to weep water just a little bit.
2 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with Impetigo and Folliculitis, most likely caused by the same bacteria living on my body. The doctor diagnosed the Impetigo by looking at it, and he prescribed me Doxycycline and Muporocin (SP?) After a few days, the Impetigo began to clear up. It was in the left corner of my lip. There is still a bit of redness there, but nothing else and no irritation. The folliculitis was on my head, back, different areas of my thighs, and occasionally my chest.
I have been on this medication for at least 20 years with no problems. Since this rash has appeared on my legs, body and head and taking doxycycline for these concerns I have developed the pins and needles in hands and feet, joint pain and muscle cramps. As I said my GP carried out blood tests my level of vitemin b12 was ok and my thyroid test was ok ,all it said on the blood test form was "thyroid test" do they carry out all tests you need for underactive thyroid?
started developing folliculitis with itching (Chest, Upper Arms, Upper Back, belly, face). doctor prescribe for me Doxycycline 100 for Morning and Evening 2 weeks and then Keflex for 2 weeks, no improvement I am in week 12 now.
and the doc told me to continue another refill of doxycycline and ketoconzole if needed. actually, want to go and see the doctor before again continue on the prescription. don't have insurance and is expensive. probably, i will a wait a while longer before i make my next appt. am taking this antibiotic only for the last 6 days; will this antibiotic and ketoconzole will clear this folliculitis.
I forgot to mention I went to the doctor about 3 weeks ago, and he said it was just a form of acne, and prescribed Doxycycline, which didnt seem to help much.
So I been to the dermatologist a couple of times because I have been breaking out on my beard area so much. I was told I had folliculitis and was put on doxycycline for a month which did not help at all. I will get these itchy bumps on my hair and they will be filled with pus and can't get them to go away. I was thinking instead of it being a bacterial infection it could be a fungal folliculitis situation since it itches and it has spread to my chest and back.
In my particular case I started to get a rash and terrible itching on my torso front and back, I have been prescribed a cream and at present the itching and severity of the rash as subsided. The Doxycycline I was prescribed I have discontinued use after only one day as I experienced terrible sore throat and swallowing and chest pains which I think may have been a side effect. I will be visiting my GP hopefully tomorrow for an alternative antibiotic or maybe just use the cream.
I was then prescribed doxycycline to be taken orally as well as told to use 1% Ketoconazole shampoo on my face a couple times a week. I have taken doxycycline and used shampoo for a month and conditions has spread more, now completely surrounding my mouth and very close to my eyes. I have also noticed that the condition get worse after I sweat.
I have been looking on the internet and I have found doxy is prescribed mostly for acne. So can it also be used for folliculitis? My situation is I took doxy for 11 days and then stopped for 3 days because it seemed to get a lot worse. My pharmacist convined me to go back on it because it takes a while to workand it gets worse before it gets better. Been on it for 24 days again now and it is still pretty bad, not as bad as when I first took it. Is this normal? How long will it take to clear up?
It almost drove me crazy so I went to the emergency room and they called it folliculitis I was given doxycycline four times a day for 7 days. My hair did come out but it grew back I can't put any texturziers or relaxer on my scalp atleast not until I go back to dermatologist this week to be sure. I tried putting a oil on my scalp it began to itch so I didn't try that anymore. I put a curl activator on my hair but not on the scalp.
I was prescribed a mid-level topical steroid along with doxycycline in case it was bacterial folliculitis. After a week of treatment the rash has improved slightly, but is still there. I am now out of the steroid cream.
If it was bacterial folliculitis how long would it take to clear with or without an antibiotic? What about Keratosis pilaris? I have had this for almost 2 months now and just want it gone.
Which in just a day became infected and had to be lanced and drained? I was put on Doxycycline 100mg 2 times a day and also Sulfamethox/Trimeth 800mg/160mg 2 times a day. Does this seem to be a correct protocol?Are there additional treatments ?
My doc put me back on doxycycline saying it could be folliculitis... the skin on my chest has cleared up a lot and is looking better but what's up with the lymph nodes?? I am thinking herpes but it is almost clear 100% on my groin so why now?
I am having a HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS 2 (IgG) INHIBITION, ELISA done tomorrow to make sure.
I am wondering can anything else cause these symptoms including the lymph nodes or is my immune system just really messed up from all the meds and stuff?
The bumps are not raised, open, or fluid filled, but they do itch. I was put on doxycycline and the rash in the groin almost all went away, but did not on other parts of my body. It is worst on my chest and left forearm. I had sex with another girl who now also has this rash, but developed it around 8 days after our encounter. I had a cbc blood test and it was normal but my mpv was .5 high, my Segs was 4 points low, and my lymph was 1.2 high. I was wondering if you have any idea what this is.

I am a 19 year old, first-year college student. About 6 months ago I randomly began to find inflamed hair follicles on the front top-side of my thigh. I didn't know what I was dealing with so I tried popping them and removing the hairs just resulting in infected wounds and more inflamed follicles. I am in the healthcare field, an internist, and I have also had issues with chronic folliculitis since 3rd year of medical school(6-7 years). I am very healthy otherwise, no health problems. At first it responded with short a course of Doxy. Then I was put on Clinda for suspected MRSA. then when it came back again I saw an Infectious Disease doc i was put on BactrimDS and this seemed to be the best .
The most i had was the urge to pee. She prescribed me doxycycline and acyclovir (just in case) not because she thought i had herpes.
The urinalysis came back with results negative to chlamydia, gonorrhea, yeast infection. Etc. The cramps and urge to pee was from a bladder infection. And then i had bacterial vaginosis. Which she prescribed another 10 day antibiotic for that. Im still waiting on the lab tests results sent from swabbing the bumps.
