Avatar n tn I am 19 and I just found out today my cholesterol is 250. How do I lower it, I am scared of dying and I do not want to die from heart disease.
Avatar f tn I’m 5’4” and 117 so even though I’ve been injured and not running for many months now, I’ve stayed biking and have watched what I eat. Can a high carb diet alone elevate triglycerides? I really don’t know what to change here! Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Depending on your particular profile, I suggest either the Dean Ornish heart-reversal diet or the South Beach Diet. If you have known heart disease, the Ornish diet is better because it most effectively cleanses the system of excess fat. The South Beach Diet is usually for those with risk factors but no known heart disease. This diet allows more latitude and can still get a person to the recommended targets. Lose weight for good, maintain your ideal body weight.
Avatar n tn You should probably do both, change your diet and look at a med to help. I don't know if I would start with Lipitor right now as your real issue is your TGLs which should be under 150. You could take a fenofibrate to help control that along with diet. Your LDL is borderline, but below the guideline of 130 unless your doctor feels you are a high risk for heart disease which means your LDL should be under 100.
Avatar f tn Sometimes, medication is needed in addition to lifestyle changes to help lower triglyceride levels. Also, if you are a smoker, quit smoking. The American Heart Association is a great source of information regarding this and they have a great user friendly web site that you may want to check out. People with elevated triglyceride levels tend to have high total cholesterol so it is important to work on lowering this number. High cholesterol puts you at risk for heart disease and stroke.
Avatar m tn 73, my triglycerides are 93, Cholesterol is 197, HDL is 41 and LDL is 141. I have been on a diet and have recently lost 30 lbs. Before I started the diet my TSH 3 was 4.67, triglycerides 206, cholesterol 214, HDL43 and LDL was 130. So is the elevation of LDLs a indication of the hypothyroidism, hereditary or just diet? And if diet what can I do naturally to drop it? I eat plenty of veggies and lean meats.
3060903 tn?1398565123 Good fat lowers triglycerides. It is recommended you consume a moderate fat diet to lower cholesterol and triglycerides. A moderate fat diet means using polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.

Avatar m tn Has the doctor prescribed a statin for you to take. I know my triglycerides were over 2100. I looked this up on the internet and found that it is called familial hypercholesterolemia. I was given Tricor and Lovastatin to control this. Now my cholesterol is in normal range.
Avatar f tn I am on a strict diet, but high cholesterol and triglycerides are genetic. Is it safe for me to take Centrum Cardio Vitamins (with plant phytols) to help lower my cholesterol? Also, does buffered niacin (or non-flushing niacin) work equally as well as regular niacin in helping to lower cholesterol? And is it safe to take with coumadin?
Avatar m tn Carbohydrates come from plant foods, You can help lower triglyceride levels by choose whole grain foods. Foods high in fiber slow down your digestion, which helps your body convert food to energy more efficiently. Fiber is found in whole grains and foods like fruits and vegetables.High fiber reduces triglyceride and cholesterol levels by reducing the absorption of saturated fats in your diet. Healthy fats Omega-3 fatty acids lower triglycerides and bad cholesterol by increasing fat metabolism.
Avatar m tn What are triglycerides? Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood. When you eat, your body converts any calories it doesn't need to use right away into triglycerides. The triglycerides are stored in your fat cells. Later, hormones release triglycerides for energy between meals. If you regularly eat more calories than you burn, you may have high triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia). What's the difference between triglycerides and cholesterol?
212161 tn?1599427282 20-30 minutes of aerobic exercise /day would also help. If you adhere to this diet, your triglycerides should decrease on follow up labs.
Avatar m tn 2 (range 0.8 - 1.3) and Bun was 22. Lipid panel showed even lower hdl, higher triglycerides at 468 and a optimal LDL of 66. Doc said that eGFR had improved but was likely the same as 2-years previous just cuz of lab variables. The doc explained that some people just have a certain level that their kidneys functioned at and mine may just be at that level.
Avatar m tn Then, you need to find out what the doctors may think is causing the high tricglycerides and low cholesteroid, and LDL and HDL. They may give you drugs for this to lower the triglycerides and up the LDL/HDL. If you can't get any of this done you can start on the vegan diet. I can give you a reference to a book you can get on online it is called the Starch Solution by Dr. John McDougall. MD. He also has a website.
Avatar f tn My 60 year old uncle has had high triglycerides, cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels since he was in his 40's and he is also mildly overweight. Over the past few years he has been trying to lower his cholesterol levels naturally, but his cholesterol levels just keep rising. He exercises 3-4 times a week for an hour, takes Omega 3 daily and eats healthy (low cholesterol and low saturated fat) meals with lots of veggies and fruit.
Avatar f tn Along this line, a healthy diet, as mentioned earlier, and your thyroid stabilizing may see your glucose, LDL and triglycerides become lower.
