Avatar m tn If you look on page 3 I posted an article I found in a magazine on an ADHD diet. I thought it was interesting. You can try it and see if it works. It should still be on page 3 or 4. The post title says ADHD diet in it. Best wishes!
Avatar f tn I think even more importantly is the brain training exercises that can be done. They have clinic that can help with that. My 4 year old is going to such a clinic. They think he has auditory processing disorder which is very, very similar to ADD. One of the things they're recommending is something called The Listening Program, which is basically listening to classical music with some other back ground noises for a half hour each day.
1744272 tn?1314209044 The fact that he also had problems at school would indicate that the diagnosis might be accurate. As a child does age, they do gain more control over their actions. Thus the more 'hyper" things they do will lessen. However, the attention problems will remain the same. There is a lot that can be done. The first is for you to become familiar with what ADHD is all about and how to help. A great book to help you is, "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley.
Avatar n tn , by Honos-Web The next thing to do is to find (if you can afford it) a child psychologist who specializes in ADHD. A regular MD can help, but this is not a simple aliment, nor are the treatments. It is a bit of a trial and error process to find the correct medication that matches the child's level of ADHD, his weight, etc. And as DollyN, can attest - there are things that can go wrong.
Avatar f tn My son's doctor put my son on a diet that relates to ADHD, dairy free, gluten free and no chocolate. My son has no formal diagnosis as far as ADHD and has been completely ruled out for Autism. The diet is expensive and I'm having a hard time taking things from my son he loves with no diagnosis and to top that all off there doesn't seem to be any behavioral effects. What sort of science is this special diet based on?
Avatar n tn Well, kids with ADHD have 4 times more wetting accidents then kids without ADHD - so there might be some connection. But, this is something that would typically be going on since they were much younger. If this just recently started, then something else is going on. Usually, at this age, I blame the situations with school bathrooms and teachers bathroom policies. However, I would think he now is not in school? Where and when is this happening?
Avatar m tn There are many things you can do to help in and out of school, but I don't want to go over things that you already are aware of since you have said you tried everything. Firstly have you been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD by a medical professional? If not then you need to arrange for someone to give you a examination. It is possible to have ADD like symptoms like forgetting things from other causes. If your are ADD diagnosed, then... Have you tried any of the following outside factors?
Avatar n tn My son is 9yrs old and he is currently on concerta and I can not continue to afford the medication please I truly need some kind of help. I make to much for medicaid and CHIPS. Please help me. Thanks, Ms.
Avatar f tn Are there any diets that help control the adhd so that I can reduce the amount of drugs taken?
Avatar n tn So essentially, I need more information so that I can help you. Do you suspect ADHD? What subject is he having trouble in? Has he always had this problem? Does he think the teacher is a jerk? Depending on what is going on I have some books, that I can recommend.
Avatar n tn Intuniv is an antihypertensive that is used as a treatment for ADHD. It can be sedating, even though it is prescribed in very low doses. So, if it is used during the daytime, it's important to monitor for its sedating effect. I doubt that he is prescribed a muscle relaxer - that would be unheard of in children. If you can find out what the medication is I can perhaps offer some feedback about it.
Avatar f tn I noticed on the website that this diet can help with depression and suicidal thoughts. It also helps with violent behavior and insomnia. I've been adding a lot of the food into my everyday life and can personally tell you I feel pretty good. The diet eliminates foods with chemicals and dyes and even apples. Goodbye M&Ms and Skittles. To get the shopping guide and brochures is a bit expensive. Type in Feingold diet to find their website. Would you try the diet?
193137 tn?1367880063 Has anyone experienced any success with the Feingold diet? My boyfriend's nephew has ADHD and they're trying the Feingold diet and they think it's helping.
Avatar n tn Ritalin can certainly cause aggression IF it is given to someone who does not have ADHD or ADD. If a person does have AD/HD it should help with the aggression as they will gain more control over themselves. You didn't mention what the reason was that he was taking ritalin. If he does have AD/HD then when the meds wear off he may be going back to his normal self. I guess the question would be - did he have the same problems before he started the meds.

Then what you want to try is an elimination diet. This kind of a diet will point out if food could be the cause. It is a difficult diet to administer, but this link will at least give you more information on it. http://www.medscape.
Avatar n tn Maybe she has ADHD or ADD? I would have to evaluated as soon as you can. Good luck! Keep us posted!
Avatar n tn The omega, in addition to a healthier diet, makes me feel like I am helping them get through life in a way that can be managed for the rest of their lives. If you teach them a certain lifestyle early, the hope is that it will travel with them throughout their adult years. Studies are showing that omega-3 is good in so many other ways (joint, heart, brain) and now there's another benefit -it can help our kids too.
Avatar f tn Help in this case is not meds or diet, but help from a trained professional. There is also a lot that you can do to work with your son for the ADHD. I highly suggest that you get the book, "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley. It will answer a lot of your questions. I can give you many more sites to check out if interested. I do feel for you. Hope this helps!

Avatar n tn No single test can lead to a diagnosis of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is best that you see your doctor for proper evaluation and to rule out other possibilities for the symptoms. The criteria for the ADHD diagnosis should be met. Take care and do keep us posted.
