Male My doctor has told me I need to move to a gluten-free diet....yikes!!! All my life (and that is a very long time--ha ha) I have generally eaten whatever I wanted to eat. This change to a GF diet seems like such a huge mountain to climb. I know there are many others who have had to change to a GF diet after a lifetime of eating what they wanted with little or no restrictions. How does a person even get started on a change like this? What do you do when you go out to eat at a restaurant?

Our bodies are at war, albeit with themselves. The stronger we can make our bodies, the more able they will be to fight the fight. THis includes a well balanced diet.

Avatar n tn t be fooled by sugar free food items ~ they may be sugar free, however they are probably NOT carbohydrate free and that's the important ingredient for both type 1's and type 2's. As far as "free foods", veggies (other than corn or potatoes), cheeses, peanut butter, meats are some foods that are free of carbs and can be eaten freely as long as they aren't heavy in calories and fat.
Avatar f tn I follow a gluten free diet. I have celiac disease. So far it hasn't been easy. I used to pretty much live on tuna fish and lunch meat and now I can't have either. I'm afraid I won't get the nutrients my baby and myself need but I am trying. Luckily many grocery stores around me carry gluten free foods and there is a strict gluten free/dairy free/vegan bakery close by if I get a sweet tooth.
1382889 tn?1505071193 He is an Integrative Medicine doc. I am sure he will be putting me on a Gluten free diet. I am waiting to start the diet for two reasons: 1. It's hard. No wheat, rye, or barley 2. In case he wants to test for actual Celiac disease-tests will be negative, regardless of if I have it or not, if I have already cut out gluten. I definitely believe in this type of medicine.
610738 tn?1263111556 I have spoken to my doctor about it but none of the doctors in my area have even heard of the condition let alone what to do about it, other then eliminate sugar completely from my diet. I have tried searching for sucrose free diets as I am only allowed a max of 2% sucrose in any food. Does anyone know where I could find information on what foods I can eat as elimination diet does not seem to be working. Most foods, even natural contain sucrose.

I purchase mostly ONE ingredient items from the supermarket, so I KNOW what's in my food,lol! If you gain weight too easily, have your thyroid checked. Ask and insist for Free T3, Free T4 and Reverse T3 tests! The standard tests miss too often!!! Good luck with your weight loss goals!
1464587 tn?1307491605 like I said my doc says to stay on a vegan low fat soy free diet..... but I honestly keep reading almost everywhere that the key is to stay atkins/veggie diet..... that it is most important to stay away from sugar and carbs (anything from any kind of flour) and stay with the veggies, egg whites, and meat.
526889 tn?1212540641 For your age you need 1500 calories daily to safely lose weight. I would recommend a Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.

What happens if my son's autism improves because of this diet but he goes back to consuming casein and gluten some day? Will his autistic symptoms reappear or have they been cured?
Avatar f tn Somebody told me that M.S. and other autoimmune diseases carry one theory that the body becomes over-run with 'bad' yeast, leading to the disease. There is a "Candida" or "Yeast-Free" diet (that is not government approved, apparently) that requires you to starve your body of yeast, sugar and other things for a while. ..thus killing off the yeast that is causing the body to attack itself. Has anyone heard of or tried this?
Avatar f tn As key ingredients are essential in a normal diet, which a gluten free diet lacks, e.g. fibre etc causing great complications. Otherwise if you have to, make sure to eat lots of kiwi fruit, dried apricots, prunes, anything high in fibre.
Avatar f tn many people have tried going gluten free in hopes that it will help with thyroid. There is little evidence that it helps with thyroid specifically. However many people report feeling better in general. So regardless of whether or not it helped specifically with thyroid, if they felt better then it was worth it. From what I've been reading, it takes at LEAST 6 months of gluten free as a minimum before you may start to see the benefits if any.

I also don't believe everything the book says. I read books and do my own research and talk to people with similar issues only to form my own opinion on the situation..

However, your DR will tell you go continue eating gluten in order for the tests to come back accurate. as that is what my DR suggested. He kept telling me my tests were negative and my weight loss stomach pains and loose stools were from IBS and its all in my head.

Take a look at any site including www.****.com that will give you suggestions on eating a high fiber diet. It's hoped that by doing so it will help to keep the pockets you've developed in your large intestine clean and free of infection.
