diabetes

Avatar m tn There are many issues one can face when they have been diagnosed with diabetes. One of the most frustrating is memory loss. Memory loss can occur in most people as they age. But sometimes, memory loss can be due to circulatory problems and hormonal changes in the body. To prevent memory loss when a person has diabetes, one should change their diet to include foods with fiber, protein, and calcium that will stimulate blood flow and also help replace some of the nutrients lost.

176495 tn?1301280412 I'm a type 2 diabetic, 58 years old diagnosed 2.5 years ago. For quite a while I did very good job eating right but for the last year or so life has been very hectic and stressful and my eating habits have really taken a beating..my blood sugar usually averages around 130, my last A1C was 6.9 and I've gained back most of the weight (30lbs) that I lost.. can anyone recommend a good "every day" cookbook...not one where the meals look like something that belong an art museum..
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, only a physician can give you an accurate diagnosis of being pre-diabetic or diabetic, and since I am not one, I cannot answer that question for you. What I can do is give you my opinion on what you have told me and share what I do know with you. First of all, I would make an appointment for a complete physical with my physician and explain these symptoms. Writing them down prior to your appointment is important so that you don't forget anything.
Avatar f tn My grandpa broke his hip, and while in the hospital, they uncovered that he is diabetic. Apparently, his doctor has known for a while that he was insaline resistant and pre-diabetic, but "didn't think it was a problem". So we're trying to help my grandma (who is 73) to take care with her cooking when (if) he gets out of the nursing home. I appriciate all the help I can get!
1666434 tn?1325262350 I thought it might be helpful if we made a thread that shared some of your favorite diabetic safe recipes. This can just be something you make yourself all the time or a recipe you converted to be safe.

Avatar f tn My friend was diabetic when he was 24 yrs, Now he is 25- unmarried.. 1) He quit smoking. However , he was smoking for 2 years. Will That have any impact? How can we cure or prevent and implications? 2) He continues to drink, What kind of drinks or alcohol can type2 diabetic intake. He often takes Whiskey, Scotch, beer, vodka and few others too... He almost take 10-15 large quantity of variety of alcohol in a month. in a week, 3-5 glasses. This scares me.
Avatar n tn Glucose rise with age? No. I don't know of anyone who consistently hits the same fasting number every single time. Fasting levels between 70 (some say 72) and 100 are considered good. Keep in mind the optimum number is in the middle. The closer you are to 70 or 100 you run the risk. Nutrition and exercise are the keys to a healthy non-diabetic body.
Avatar m tn Medication HELPS to lower glucose levels with your assistance. One has to commit to a lifestyle change by adhering to a diabetic diet, maintaining proper body weight, and perform, at minimum, 30 minutes of physical exercise daily. Slack on one and you defeat the others ending up requiring more medication. Ever hear of anyone getting better by taking more medication? From the levels you posted your much higher than normal levels is attributed to the foods you are eating.
1461073 tn?1308677548 Hello I am new to this forum and was sitting on the MH site while eating 2 pieces of this pie with whipped cream on top of them (Yes I said 2, Please do not Judge me I am a Weak Chocoholic especially during the Holidays and have made 2 of these pies TWICE since Thanksgiving. I'm looking for some recipes and great ideas that you have used to keep down cravings and keep glucose level in a normal range. I still have at least 6 or more weeks to go ...
Avatar f tn Just confirmed I have gd and its not a game I have to stop eating sugar and I've been winging off of salt my head is hurting so bad today and it ***** just thought is share that anyone know any good recipes I'm not suppose to eat anything white or wheat...
938718 tn?1323783514 Sigh. I tested positive for gestational diabetes. I thought I was eating healthy, but I guess it's not enough. I'm just waiting now for an appointment at the diabetic clinic. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar n tn The type 1 diabetic has a more damaged pancreas than the type 2 diabetic person, but both are equally responsible for controlling their glucose levels, and how well they do that is what ends up defining their overall health. If either one lets glucose levels run high, then complications such as kidney damage or eye damage or nerve damage can happen. But both should be equally able to keep glucose levels close to the normal range if they test often and take appropriate medications.
Avatar f tn I sit beside a diabetic at work and any time he eats something sweet (not that often), he eats a spoonful of peanut butter. I'd try to get the veggies you can stand. I mix peas with my mashed potatoes to help choke them down.
733939 tn?1231773355 You are on the right track so take a deep breath and hang in there! I disagree with the person who said you are a "half step from being put on insulin". I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way! For a Type II diabetic the correct step for you and your doctor to take is to start you on some oral medications and help you to learn the right way to eat. I agree with the person who said not to think of it as a diet but as good nutrition. Please don't be afraid to eat!
