Common Questions and Answers about Dandruff and nits

dandruff

Avatar f tn I know exactly what the bugs and the nits look and feel like. Please keep this in mind before you jump to conclusions. About seven years ago, at age 20, I noticed flecks in my hair that weren't coming out like dandruff. I tried to pull them off and they were somewhat stuck to the hair shaft like a lice nit. I had four people check my hair, including my doctor, and no bugs were found. I never experienced itching either. Fast forward seven years, and I still notice them sometimes.
905256 tn?1245172921 Hello, These dry scabs could have been due to lice or dandruff.Check whether your son’s scalp is infested with liceor dandruff. You may be able to see the lice or nits by parting your child's hair into small sections and checking for lice and nits on the scalp. If there is lice infestation, then pls shampoo the hair with anti lice shampoos which are available over the counter. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your son is doing or if you have any additional doubts.
Avatar f tn You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. But if your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur. If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist and get fungal infections ruled out. Eat a healthy diet.
Avatar f tn If you had head lice, you sometimes would find a little bug, but also would see white sugar looking grains on your hair near the scalp. These are called nits - these are the eggs of the head lice. The flaky skin that you have coming down and falling on to your clothes, like Jessjess2014 says is called dandruff. This can sometimes be caused by a fungal infection on the head. To treat this you would need a shampoo that also has antifungal properties.
Avatar f tn So I've been having this yellow tube-like things sticking to strands of my hair. My hair is pretty long and very very thick. I think it's head lice, but I NEVER feel the little lice crawling in there, my mom checks my hair on a daily basis very frequently and she sees nothing. I do have dandruff every once in a while though. I admit they do look like head lice nits, but I'm not sure. I think it may be head lice and I'm getting some treatment shampoo tomorrow and trying it.
Avatar f tn My four year old has been scratching her head (all over her scalp) for a few weeks now. At first I thought it might be lice, but I inspect her hair every few days and haven't seen any nits or lice. As an infant she had eczema, so I thought maybe it was that, but she doesn't have any redness or bumps on her scalp. I don't think it's dandruff because thereare no flakes. We wash her hair every night in the shower with kids shampoo and use regular adult conditioner.
Avatar n tn The internet has many sites that say natural methods like mayonnaise, vinegar, and natural oils can be used to smother the louses and neutralize the nits. I would like for someone to share a real testimonial with me on how to defeat this agonizing pest, and I advise you to do your own homework on the subject and not waste hundreds and thousands of dollars on over the counter remedies.
Avatar f tn Because after the itching kept on going on and on I checked her head and she had tons of nits in her hair. I had my friend Emma check my hair and she said I had a little bit of nits but not a lot.

Avatar f tn Ok this is garrenteeed to work but it will sound crazy. Kerosene works no doubt. I had it as a child and my mom tried everything even quail shampoo from the Dr nothing worked. She heard about the kerosene and tried it and it worked. You can also do baby oil and leave it on for 3 days it's best to wear a shower cap. Plus remember you need to treat everyone's head and the entire house.
Avatar f tn lice attain maturity within 7 days and lay eggs .. the nits too hatch within 7 days.. so to get rid of them completely use an anti lice and immediate combing that too sunday to sunday for at least 4 sundays.. good luck..
Avatar f tn I have used a small comb (sold for lice and nits removal) to clean these spheres out of my hair for a few years now (once or twice a week), and I just wanted to know if anyone had ever seen or heard of this before. I don't have dandruff, but I do have very thick hair and it can sometimes be slightly oily. I dislike the feeling of styling products in my hair and never use them, and I usually shampoo it every other day (I generally don't use conditioner).
Avatar n tn Nits found more than one fourth of an inch away from scalp either have hatched or are unlikely to. Nits, nymphs and adult louse can be found on the body, eyelashes or eyebrows. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn Hi Everyone, around a month ago my alt was 176 and going to start my treatment next week. Please englighten me.
Avatar n tn It is very unlikely that you will contract head lice and nits unless you have close head to head contact as these parasites cannot fly or jump. They tend to travel along the hair shaft. This explains why it is mainly a child health issue as children tend to play together and touch heads. It is relatively easy to deal with so long as you are thorough with your treatment. It is important to get rid of the nits (the head lice eggs) thoroughly or the infestation will continue.
Avatar n tn then i started to develop light dandruff (white, very little grains) and seem not to manage to get it under control with normal dandruff shampoos etc. while googling dandruff i read that dandruff (but i assume heavy) can be a sign of hiv infection. then i started reading about scary high aids rates in portugal. especially as most new infections here come from hetero sexual encounters.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum; thanks for your question. I'm not surprised to hear that "The info on the Internet is confusing", There hasn't been much research on crab lice (crabs) or their transmission; most of what we know is based on clinical impressions, not systematic data. That said, I am quite certain you don't have it. First, a massage parlor is an unlikely place to catch crabs, especially if they use fresh sheets and towels for each client (as you imply yourself).
1757401 tn?1312688480 I took a shower yesterday and I think I saw two brown nits come off on my hand when I ran conditioner through my hair. My friend found a white egg on my hair today. My neck has hives. So do I have head and pubic lice?
Avatar m tn Hello, For dandruff, eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.
Avatar f tn Hi, wondering if anyone has an answer for me. I used to get dandruff on and off and I used head & shoulders or others like it and it worked fine. This winter, however, my scalp has gotten extremly dry and itchy and flaky, and sore from all the scratching. I tried a bunch of more heavy duty OTC shampoos for dandruff, but none worked. I used an essential oils scalp massage and that worked for a bit. Now it is out of control and driving me crazy.
Avatar m tn Honestly i do not know when it started but i am always using my finger to rub on my scalp looking for something to scratch off , i have a serious problem with dandruff it comes and goes and sometimes grow over night. When i have it bad i notice i have red spots or bumps on my scalp and i need help because i am very scared this might be some sort of disease ... can someone tell me what are these small red spots that appear ?
Avatar n tn My son who has black hair has tiny little white specs throughout. I was afraid that it was lice or nits, but he has had them now for over a month (that I've noticed) and they have never hatched, nor when I remove the particles from the hair strand and squeeze them, they do not seem to have a "pulp" or anything that would indicate a "living" organism.
