Avatar f tn t tell if the little white things in my hair are flakes or nits. I did the lice treatment, but nothing showed up when my hair was combed out. I have painful slightly itchy bumps and pimples on my scalp. I'm not insanely itchy, but I know you don't have to be super itchy to have lice. I don't know what else it would be if it's not lice, maybe the treatment didn't work. If it's not lice what is it?
Avatar f tn So I've been having this yellow tube-like things sticking to strands of my hair. My hair is pretty long and very very thick. I think it's head lice, but I NEVER feel the little lice crawling in there, my mom checks my hair on a daily basis very frequently and she sees nothing. I do have dandruff every once in a while though. I admit they do look like head lice nits, but I'm not sure. I think it may be head lice and I'm getting some treatment shampoo tomorrow and trying it.
Avatar f tn My four year old has been scratching her head (all over her scalp) for a few weeks now. At first I thought it might be lice, but I inspect her hair every few days and haven't seen any nits or lice. As an infant she had eczema, so I thought maybe it was that, but she doesn't have any redness or bumps on her scalp. I don't think it's dandruff because thereare no flakes. We wash her hair every night in the shower with kids shampoo and use regular adult conditioner.
Avatar n tn another worried mom about lice, go see a doctor hell look at your head and if they are lice and theyve infested that long he might use some permethrin shampoo the only way to really tell is to have a trained pro get a good look sorry
Avatar n tn Second, a dermatologist is not likely to miss the lice or nits. Third, you would easily seem them yourself. You may have seen information on the web that they are hard to see. That's true, but it really applies only when someone hasn't looked carefully. On close inspection, they are always easily apparent. (If you are dark skinned, the lice themselves may be quite difficult to spot. But in that case, the nits typically stand out as white spots attached to the bases of pubic hairs.
Avatar n tn Hi there. No, head lice will not show up on an X ray. Lice cement their eggs firmly close to scalp. The clearest evidence of head lice infestation is to find living, moving lice. This can be done by combing wet hair with a fine toothed comb. Nits found more than one fourth of an inch away from scalp either have hatched or are unlikely to. Nits, nymphs and adult louse can be found on the body, eyelashes or eyebrows. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Have you tried some lice cream? cor, it's making me itch now ha ha, you have common places for nits too be, at least you have clean hair! (: ..
Avatar n tn It is very unlikely that you will contract head lice and nits unless you have close head to head contact as these parasites cannot fly or jump. They tend to travel along the hair shaft. This explains why it is mainly a child health issue as children tend to play together and touch heads. It is relatively easy to deal with so long as you are thorough with your treatment. It is important to get rid of the nits (the head lice eggs) thoroughly or the infestation will continue.
Avatar f tn i have a 7 year old,who has nits, and every bit off her head is covered in nits and eggs, please i try so hard to take them out,but she searms as they hurt so much.the school are on my back as it is bad.now when i pull the eggs out her her is falling out.will all her hair fall out.i dont know what to do,as when i brush her hair it takes ahour to get the knots out.then i have to pin her down to try get nit comb in to get them out.i cant do it,what do i do.i dont want anyone thinking i not doing it.
Avatar f tn What you need to do is buy the OTC live treatment put it on the hair and leave on for 10 minutes then rinse and comb through. Vacuum the entire house, wash all sheets and blankets in hot water and anything that cannot be washed needs to be sealed in an airtight ziploc bad for 2 whole weeks.
Avatar f tn But your eyelashes and face could be dry and itchy do to dander or dust mites that the lice may have carried . My cousin who had lice alot used to pull her eyelashes out because it was so itchy and the problem was cause by a type of mite. It's really common . Hope this helps ! Don't be afraid to talk to someone about how to take care of the pubic area . All areas need to be free of the lice or else you will keep getting head lice as well.
Avatar f tn For about 3 weeks now my head, neck, and ears have been itching really badly. There was some kind of bug in my hair that I found today but I hadn't found any bugs before and I worked outside today. The bug was a darkish color. I didn't really get a good look of it because as soon as I saw it was a a bug I hurried up and threw it in the garbage can. I think it might be lice but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what it is?
1503849 tn?1289500304 My daughter had head lice in Kindergarten and we used a regular mixture of cooking oil and vinegar. Saturate the hair, including the scalp, and leave on for an hour. Take a metal tooth nit comb and remove all nits. Repeat every day for 5-7 days. While it won't effect the nits, it will kill live lice and by repeating every day, you will kill any lice that hatched from a nit that may have been missed. Dawn liquid detergent is great to get the oil out.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the Forum. Pubic lice can be transmitted by indirect contact through contact with contaminated bedclothes or another person’s clothing. It would be unusual to get pubic lice from contact with hotel bedclothes as most reputable hotels use clean bedclothes for each now resident. the bathing suit hypothesis would be unusual but is conceivable. Your symptoms could be due to lice or they could be due to shaving itself. Shaving often leads to subsequent itching.
Avatar f tn I too had these *hard white granules appearing on my hair and scalp. They were very similar to lice nits, yet, I never found any lice on my lice comb, and my scalp itched constantly; I had a constant sensation of things crawling all over and biting my scalp, my eyebrows, and inside my ears. I would even find many sores and scabs on my scalp and in my ears and this was not due to my scratching or harming my skin. **I was also experiencing this problem with my eyebrows and on my eyelashes.
Avatar n tn I've been at war with my daughter's hair for shy of 6 years now. Ever since she was 2 and in day care the doctors pegged her for having hair lice. Over the past 6 years she's been treated with numerous posionous lice treatments, and the "nit" looking things keep coming back! She has "never" had itching/redness of the scalp or any live louse. The "nit" looking things are ALL over her head but are ONLY located in the top section of her head no where else.
Avatar f tn Head Lice is very difficult for parents to get rid of. The nits and nymphs (baby lice) are basically microscopic when they are first released or hatched. Many of the over the counter products are simply not effective. If you are having a difficult time getting rid of them then try contacting a professional head lice removal service. We tried Nit Picky, their service is excellent and reasonable. They will also teach you what to look for and how to follow up and prevent a reinfestation..
Avatar f tn Im currently using lice killing shampoo but they dont go away! Im guessing that the lice eggs dont get killed from the shampoo, its been almost 2 weeks. I'm a boy with long hair and i really dont want to cut it off :(. I have even sat with my mom for atleast 5 hours as she picked out the hairs with little nits on it, i dont see how the combs would work on the eggs because they are pretty much glued on the hair! HELP!!!!!

Avatar f tn ParentsKidsTeensEducatorsMORE for Kids What's in this article? (click to view) Scratch scratch. Scratch. Your head is feeling really itchy. Could it be lice?If so, you're not alone. Every year, between 6 and 12 million people worldwide get head lice. Most of those millions are kids. Any kid who goes to school has probably already heard about lice. They can spread easily at schools, so if one kid gets them, the rest of the class might get them, too. What can you do? Let's find out.
1757401 tn?1312688480 A few days ago, my scalp, back of neck, and now my pubic area has become extremely itchy. Everyone in my family has checked my head, but they don't see any nits or lice. My neck has become red in spots I itched it. Cortaid doesn't work, neither does gold bond cream. I could have gotten something when I went to Panama two weeks ago and was in close contact with children there. I was wondering what this could be so I could treat it right away.
