Coughing blood vocal cord

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing blood vocal cord

coughing

Avatar f tn The best way for evaluation is to see a speech pathologist who specializes in voice and who can perform a videostroboscopy which is a special camera to look at the movement of the vocal cords. The speech pathologist can recommend vocal strengthening exercises and works with an ENT who can prescribe the medication if needed. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Generally, your health going into the surgery helps determine if you will have any complications after. Typically though, coughing when talking (and not when silent) is a vocal cord issue. Actually, something to talk to your doctor about as well is Gerd which can cause this phenomenon. When is the last time you have talked to a doctor about this?
Avatar f tn It scared me and I stayed up took some Tums and then went to sleep in the recliner. I suffer with vocal cord dysfunction and any type of irritant or cold or allergy can trigger uncontrollable coughing where I cannot breathe. This was different it was so severe and immediate like a hot ball coming into my throat and not being able to catch a breathe for what would be 3 normal breathes. Unable to ask for help or anything so when it finally passed I didn't bother to call anyone.
Avatar m tn It could be asthma as for some people the different breathing patterns of talking will trigger an attack. It could also be vocal cord dysfunction though (very benign and treated with speach therapy). You might want to do some research on that one before heading to your dr, print what you find and take it to him/her. A lot of drs have never heard of it. Take care.
2080404 tn?1643113754 Have you been tested for vocal cord dysfunction? Sometimes this is the problem. Many of the symptoms are the same as asthma and it is possible to have both conditions which makes it more confusing.
Avatar m tn I suggest you research Vocal Cord Dysfunction. It is a condition where the vocal cords spasm on inhalation making it difficult to really breathe in. This has many triggers, and PND is one of them. Good luck. Praying you find answers.
Avatar n tn I suggest that you research vocal cord dysfunction. It is a condition in which the vocal cords spasm making a similar wheezing sound to asthma. A person experiencing an attack can also feel a tightness in their throat. There are breathing techniques to treat this condition. It is best treated by a speach therapist. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I also learned that I have something called Vocal Cord Dysfunction, which can also cause this issue. It feels much like what you're describing, but it's not actually asthma. Food sensitivities and allergies can also cause this to happen. You can have the lesser of these, food sensitivities, and feel like you can't quite get your breath. This is not quite a full blown allergy, but it's nothing to be sneezed at, because such can become a full blown allergy, too.
Avatar f tn I recently watched one video with patient have had same results after surgery; the ENT did another surgery to the vocal cord fixing this condition. Approx 4% of the population has vocal nerves embedded in thew thyroid tissue so damage is inevitable.
Avatar n tn The ENT diagnosed me with silent reflux and noted that I had vocal cord nodules. I had chest pressure, throat constriction (which I described, probably incorrectly, as shortness of breath), and a metalic taste quite often in the mornings but never any heartburn. I constantly cleared my throat. Best of luck to you in finding your answer.
Avatar m tn In April 2011, I had a total thyroidectomy because of papillary thyroid present on my thyroid and in a few lymph nodes. As of today, the cancer hasn't tried to come back so I should count my blessings for that, but during the surgery, my vocal nerve was severed. The doctor realized his error and attempted to fix the nerve before sewing me back up, but unfortunately the nerve never healed. So I believe it is my left vocal cord that is near 100% paralyzed while my other one works perfectly.
Avatar m tn Can this also be a symptom of Vocal Cord Dysfunction? My throat usually gets tight just before, and suddenly my throat (vocal cords) close up for a short moment. I can there after breath normally. It isn't something that scares me, but it's very irritating and frustrating not knowing what it is and what causes it. Thank you! God bless!
Avatar f tn I am seeing a Head and neck Surgeon because my ENT Dr wants me to get a biopsy on my vocal cord mass, well not even sure if it is a mass, she just said I had something on my left vocal cord that looks to her could be cancer. For the last five days since seeing my ENT Dr, my neck node is swollen and firm, and not painful and I am worried that if I do have vocal cord cancer of some sort, that it has spread to the lymph nodes and what that might mean?
Avatar f tn It was during this revision surgery that I suffered damage to my right vocal cord, which is permanently paralyzed and I was informed that they had a great deal of trouble with the intubation for my surgery. When I woke up after surgery, I knew something was wrong as not only could I not speak but I could not swallow either. The loss of my voice q a month and through swallow therapy, I was able to swallow a little better without choking quite as much.
Avatar f tn The nerve to my right vocal cord was damaged during total thyroidectomy causing vocal cord paralysis. As a masters swimmer and cyclist breathing whilst under stress isn't easy. Is there anyone out there with a similar problem.Just like to know that I am not alone with this affliction.
10678677 tn?1413254266 Sounds like you have a cold that has nothing to do with pregnancy. Take vitamin C. Also hot tea. I'm not sure if you can take chamomile but any tea you can take with lemon and honey. It will help with the flem. Also NO dairy!!! It clogs up your throat so teas, soups anything that can clear you throat and vocal cord. Also I don't see how you will get fired if you call in sick don't say pregnancy but have a cold. It's illegal if they fire you did being sick!
Avatar f tn HAD THYROID SURGERY 2-18-08 TO REMOVE RIGHT SIDE,HAVE HAD CHRONIC HOARSENESS SINCE SURGERY.ENT TOLD ME LAST WEEK THE RIGHT VOCAL CORD IS NOT MOVING,HE SAID THE NERVE HAD NOT BEEN CUT.ONLY TIME WILL TELL IF IT WILL START WORKING.ALSO HAVE ALOT OF SCAR TISSUE AROUND INCISION.ENT TOLD ME TO MESSAGE IT ALOT TO HELP BREAK IT UP.
Avatar n tn My allergist is suggesting I have a rhinoscopy for Vocal Cord dysfunction. If I have the surgery, will the vocal cord dysfunction go away or do I still need to get checked and treated for Vocal Cord dysfunction? Not sure if I should consult an ENT and pursue Vocal Cord issues before seeking surgery options.
Avatar n tn We nursed this fissue and hemorrhoid issue for 6 months until vocal cord swelling went down and i could talk again. No dr wanted to operate with vocal cord problem. Originally went to see colo-rectal surg in June of 2011 because of upcoming back surgery in Sept 2011 and didnt want to suffe the severe constipation from pain medication. She assured me she would work with back surgeon...
Avatar n tn Another possibility since you have trouble breathing when laughing is vocal cord dysfunction (VCD). This is a spasm of the vocal cords that can be triggered by anything that triggers asthma. Discus this possibility with your doctor the next time you see him/her. God bless.
Avatar n tn ENT showed no problems with my vocal chords or throat, but I am still coughing, so as my voice is weak I have been referred to to speech therapy. As I have asthma, I wonder if your idea of cough variant might be the answer. Thanks again.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the information. I was diagnosed in June as having vocal cord nodules that are also called singer nodules. They are on both sides of the vocal cords and appear small, and benign. I was told from the ENT, that this is why I have the hoarse voice. Since it was not improving I requested a sonogram of my thyroid.I had it done last week.
Avatar m tn Mine is from acid reflux and starts on the rear left vocal cord and extends to between the vocal cords remaining on the left vocal cord. In your practice have many of these turned up cancerous? I am a nonsmoker. I am scheduled for a bispsy and endoscopy on July 21 if it doesnt improve. I am very upset about this ulcer.
Avatar n tn however my doctor also does not feel this is the cause of my vocal cord paralysis. Anyone with similar symptoms?? If so, did your vocal cord return to normal function after surgery. Any input appreciated.
Avatar f tn Your vocal cords could resume as well. I had a paralyzed vocal cord for 6 weeks. I would go for injection of the vocal cord just to avoid further surgery. Good luck, it sounds like you are having a rough time.
Avatar f tn Just wanted to ask another question. Im having to deside if I should have vocal cord injection or surgery. During my TT, my vocal cord was clipped. I have had to whisper since my surgery 6 months ago. It has been painful, hard to eat, drink and just function. Heres the question I was woundering if any body else had, had this happen to them. Also if you knew any thing about the injection or the surgery? Im a tad confused.
