Coughing blood gerd

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing blood gerd

Avatar f tn Reflux often starts after a coughing fit which regularly happens in the morning, which is no doubt due to the borderline hiatus hernia. Coughing fits often occur within half an hour of eating/drinking, which is what made me think it was a food allergy. It ALWAYS occurs after drinking wine, without fail which made me think it was sulphite allergy. CT of my sinuses shows no abnormality.
Avatar n tn Hello, About 2 weeks ago I picked up a common cold from my husband, just a couple of days ago, I've noticed that in the mornings when I wake up, I've been coughing up blood. It doesn't last all day, it's only immediately after waking and I start coughing. The rest of the day my phlegm is clear with maybe a tiny speck of blood occasionally. I feel an irritation and fullness in my throat, although my chest feels clear, and there is wheezing (in my throat).
Avatar n tn I looked up some causes for coughing up blood. The ones that I put a dash next to are the ones I think that you should be concerned about. I also wrote down some diagnostic tests you should consider. If you haven't done ALL of them, then GO and get them done. Okay I promise to leave you alone now..hehe Good luck!!
Avatar f tn Hi, My husband is suffering from severe coughing since last 6 weeks. The doctors had his lung x ray, CT Scan etc but all is normal. He has given a few blood tests for Asthama and other normal blood tests and waiting for results. No medicine is helping him. It seems he has it more after he has dinner. What can be done?
Avatar n tn I also have tyroid problems, high blood pressure and fiberomyalia. The first of Janurary for no reason I started coughing. I wasn't running a fever, no cold, flu, or any thing else. The cough is just a dry harsh cough. I would cough until my head hurt and my throat hurt. It's hard to eat when you're coughing, I've had chest x-ray that was clear, lungs are clear. I've had blood work, it was fine. I've gone through antibotics, steriods, four bottles of cough syrup and nothing helps.
Avatar n tn For about a year, I have had a continual problem with coughing and clearing my throat that is so bad, that I sometimes cannot speak at public functions (part of my job.) Sometimes I cant even clear my throat no matter how hard I try. Every morning within 1 minute of getting out of bed, I have a coughing fit. However, I never have chest pain associated with heartburn. My doctor says maybe it is post nasal drip but a daily nasal steroid spray and daily Zyrtec didnt help.
Avatar n tn 1) Lots of Burping, 20-25 times a day 2) Pain in my ribs 3) Lots of coughing 4) Difficulty swallowing occasionally 5) Sometimes i get this thing where I need to burp and can swallow the burp. 6) Coughing and then the burp coming out in the cough. The Doctor gave me Omeprazole for this which I've been taking for 5 days and it hasn't been helping. The Doctor told me it's Reflux, but I'm paranoid that it's Stomach or Esophageal Cancer.
Avatar n tn i am very worried about her and the coughing has kept her from sleep and i am afraid it is going to affect her education...she has circles under her eyes that look like ours...from lack of sleep. we have had her tested for all allergies and she has none.. she has no fever and the drs say it is nothing to worry about, and we use chertussin, which is not helping anymore at all! at least it would help for an hour or so.. but not is a million times worse when she is sick with a cold..
Avatar n tn Nighttime-only reflux is a pretty common thing for people with GERD. A lot only experience their symptoms at night, with some of the symptoms being coughing and sore throat. (Haven't heard about vomiting, though that doesn't exclude it by any means.) Has he tried lifting the head of the bed a few inches (6-12) and not eating 3-4 hours before bedtime? Try that out and see how it works. Of course, also follow CalGal's advice.
Avatar f tn They drew blood, did an ekg, and an xray. They came back normal, and diagnosed me with GERD and torn muscles in my upper back, and muscle strain in my elbows. I believe I've had GERD for most or all of my life, but without the heartburn. I never realized what I had. When I was in my early 20's, I would notice a gurgling noise/sensation coming from my throat, mainly after eating, and I would also wake up with bad breath with a funny filmy feeling on my teeth.
Avatar m tn The first episode was bright fresh blood and on the subsequent occasions the blood was darker and more integral with the phlegm Yesterday, there was what looked like the old residue of the original blood and then nothing further. It's suggested that the coughing may have broen a blood vessel and that this has now stopped bleeding. I had clear chest x ray and HRCT 8 months ago and had a further clear CXR yesterday.
Avatar n tn Ped GI and started prilosec 20mg am+pm Nov 16. Also had normal blood work (blood count, metabolic, h pylori, celiac, pancreas, kidney, liver) + a milk scan that did show reflux (but no aspiration). Normal chest xray 2 weeks ago. She had another 21 day course of Biaxin in Dec that did nothing. We have finally stopped the nebs because it's clear they don't help and we fear albuterol won't work if she does need it later! We have checked her meds--none cause cough.
Avatar m tn I was dx a few months back. Take advair twice a day (was taking singulair too, but it gave me a headache) & take aciphex daily for gerd. the aciphex has helped w/ the coughing some, but i still cough a good bit...sometimes to the point of dizziness. If I laugh, I cough. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Some common causes of chronic cough include asthma, allergic rhinitis, sinus problems (for example sinus infection),post nasal drip and esophageal reflux of stomach contents(GERD). Infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia can also cause coughing. These infections can be caused by virus, bacteria or fungus. Sometimes the cause of chronic cough can be asthma and medications like antihypertensives (ACE inhibitors).Pls check them out.
1580397 tn?1296436565 About 11 months ago I developed a cough, I have been treated for gerd, sinus, vocal cord problems. I have had antibiotic, I take nexium, paxil, am on a 21 day course of prednisone now. But still I cough and cough. My back and ribs are sore and my lower left ribs in the back seem to be spasming. When I talk I star coughing. I go to work and people are sure I have something contagious. Pertussis cam back negative, sinus scopenotheing significant.
Avatar n tn The past 2 months it has become severe...still non-productive, and now all the time. My bouts of coughing are so incessant, that my whole body aches, my throat is raw and the cartildge in my sternum is inflamed. I asked the Dr. about 6 months ago, and he put me on Claritin...which I took for 3 months with no result-so stopped taking it. All the otc cough syrups are also unhelpful, as well as sinus medication and nose sprays. I have a stuffy nose....which I've had for years.
Avatar n tn The cold eventually went away, but since then I have been consistently coughing up clear phlegm 10-20 times a day. Usually, it's just small amounts, and I cough it up to try and clear my lungs and throat. I went to my doctor about a month ago and he performed a lung function breathing test and checked my blood oxygen levels and said that everything was normal. So he prescribed Nasonex which I have been taking for about a week, but it doesn’t seem to have made much difference.
Avatar n tn I have almost 9 years coughing I went many doctors I am still coughing... I have pulmunary Fibrosis but I am in stable condition and I don't take any medications. right now, my doctors try different medications for my coughing however they are not helping my chronic cough. I would appreciate any help and suggestions..... Please help me thank you....
Avatar n tn hi,littlevicko again, you could have gerd, you would never think it would cause chronic coughing but that and sinus disease and esophoglis made my daughter have a chronic cough with excessive phlgm, she stayed in the hosital 2 weeks and thats what they found, she may have to have sinus surgery to flush the sinuses out but s far she is alot better after being sick for months-all these conditions made her airways swell and irritated, they did a lung scope and didnt find anything but when you cough so l
Avatar n tn Coughing can be caused by MANY different things, and usually by a combination of several things. Causes of coughing can include (at least): --GASTRIC REFLUX --SINUS PROBLEMS, due to air pollution, infections, etc. --LUNG PROBLEMS, such as infections like pneumonia, bronchitis, (caused by bacteria, viruses, mycoplasmas, etc.) asthma, lung damage, etc. --AIR POLLUTION, due to irritants, toxic CHEMICAL fumes/gases, etc.
Avatar n tn A cough can be a side effect of a group of medicines called ACE inhibitors. It can also be due to post-nasal drip, gastro-esophageal reflux (GERD), and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). IPF is one form of interstitial lung disease (ILD). This causes inflammation or swelling that leads to scarring of the lungs in the area between the air sacs and the blood vessels. The most common symptoms of ILD are shortness of breath with exercise and a dry cough.
Avatar n tn Finally the cough was gone except for at night (I'm guessing because the air is cold because when I put the blankets over my nose it's easier to breath with out coughing). Out of the blue with no warning at all I get this awful tickel at the back of my throat or even deeper. I have such a bad uncontrolable coughing fit. My eyes water, and I can hardly breath. I feel like I can't get enough oxygen. I even pee my pants. Some times I cough so hard I feel like I will throw up.
Avatar n tn 2)Sweating easily 3)Loss of concentration and fatigue 4)coughing til I vomit. The problem i am facing now is a bad cough. (Dec 06) This cough was only at night but due to smoking which i quit, it became a daily thing happening both in the AM and PM. It seems the cough goes away slightly when taking claratin but definitely comes back when i drink or eat phlegm producing foods. Due to my asthma/lack of allergy shots in two years I thought this is post nasal.
Avatar m tn If your sat is normal then you are getting enough oxygen. Clearing your throat constantly/coughing can be a sign of anxiety or of gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. It is rarely serious, and can be easily treated. Ask your physician.
Avatar m tn I went and got an EKG, Echocardiogram, Holter Monitor, Chest X-Ray, and blood tests that all said I was fine. I have a stress test scheduled for next week. I have been diagnosed with anxiety. However, during this period I've been noticing I have a lot of gas. I have also been salivating a LOT more, and coughing up phlegm, but I thought this was just because I used to smoke. I get this sensation, that I feel I need to burp.
Avatar f tn I am looking for a gastroenterologist specializing in GERD related to menopause. I am a 45 year old woman who had a hysterectomy very young - I was just 27 and had it done because of prolapse. My ovaries were left, but the doctor warned that I would likely go through menopause early - my new GP recently confirmed that I am post-menopausal. But my journey has been long and I'm very tired & frustrated.... mostly of being made to feel that I am crazy.
Avatar m tn Hi, Last month I began to spit up (no coughing) a little bit of blood when I wake up in the morning. I went to the doctor and got an xray and my lungs were fine. My doctor thinks the blood probably came from my mouth. Since then, I sometimes do spit up some blood when I wake up in the morning, and i find it especially after lying down on the bed for a long period of time. However, it stopped for a while. This week, I felt that my throat has been swelling after I woke up and spat some blood.
Avatar f tn You could be having both sinusitis/ allergies and GERD. Are you any medications for the allergic reactions along with your GERD medications? You should try steam inhalation, saline nasal drops and oral antihistamine medications and see if they help with your symptoms. Consult your doctor about any additional medications for your GERD like itopride. Sleep with your head end elevated. Let us know if you have any other doubts and post us about how you are doing. Hope this helps. Regards.
Avatar f tn I have been thoroughly evaluated by my pcp and GI MD. Along with multiple blood tests, and cardiac workup. My upper GI series showed small sliding hiatal hernia with mild reflux, neg HIDA scan, abdominal ultrasound and negative upper endoscope. Can mild reflux cause signficant chest tightness complaints. Only meds I take are TUMS and recently put on Lexapro for anxiety over this.
