My son who is 12 is having episodes of coughing up blood every 60 days --it started in March of 2012 -- it sometimes starts with sharp pains in his right side (front) -- or sometimes he just coughs up blood -- the coughing up of blood lasts for about 20 mins -- he coughs up about 1/2 of a specimen container of blood -- he says it feels like there is something he needs to cough up -- he coughs -- not too hard - and then spits into a cup and it is blood.
Now, I feel healthy save some little dizziness. However, I still suddenly cough fresh blood once or twice a day with almost zero phlegm. I feel the blood not coming from the lung, but from somewhere in the pharynx. When the coughing starts, some clotted blood comes first and then fresh blood. Each time I cough about two minutes and gradually the feel of coughing is over.
Now I am confused whether the hemoptysis is caused by the maxillary sinusitis or something else.

I was dx a few months back. Take advair twice a day (was taking singulair too, but it gave me a headache) & take aciphex daily for gerd. the aciphex has helped w/ the coughing some, but i still cough a good bit...sometimes to the point of dizziness. If I laugh, I cough. Any suggestions?

Your symptoms sound quite serious, I would see another doctor, preferably a cardiologist, you need to see a specialist instead of a regular GP, this is nothing to wait around with.

Well, if you are coughing up blood, a responsible adult in your life should be told so you can be seen by a doctor. I doubt I have to state the obvious that inhalation of smoke from weed isn't good for you. but coughing up blood is something that requires medical care so you need to talk to your parents about seeing a doctor.
and i started coughing small amounts of blood....today was worse...as i coughed up 3 times (maybe violently) but there was blood in it...and also when i blow my nose....also when i spit normally the first spit is normal, second one is little orangish, and after that blood...they said it could be gum problem. so please if anyone can give me some advice? i am scheduled to go to a capital city hospital to see better ENT doctor who ll tell me about my sinus and nasopharynx problems..
