clarithromycin and strep throat

Woke up one morning about 7 weeks ago with a single inflamed taste bud (Circumvallate) and a minor sore throat. I ignored the symptoms for about 4 weeks before seeing a doctor, and over these 4 weeks my papillae became more and more swollen (I have strawberry tongue right now) and I gained an increasing amount of post nasal drip. When I first went to the doctor, I was given 2 injections (listed above) and a prescription for a Z-pack.

I went to the doctor and both the strep and mono tests came back negative. I only had a sore throat, the infection in my throat (white spots and pus pockets), tiredness (which I just thought was being tired) and an achy body (which I attributed to working out). The doctor determined that it was either strep throat and did not come up on the test, or it was just some other throat infection. He gave me a prescription for biaxin, 2x a day for ten days.

Three days ago I had a full STD screening done wherein I gave a urine sample and a throat swab. Yesterday I gave blood samples for early detection STD tests using RNA PCR. My urine and throat swab PCR test results came back yesterday. I'm clear of Gonnorrhea and Clamydia however I tested positive for Mycoplasma Hominis and Mycoplasma Genitalium. I thought these couldn't be acquired by oral sex but I guess they can.

she said there was no way she had a sore throat so shortly after the antibiotics she had given her but i told her it was not a long time at all... she has some infection in her ear and throat still so she put her on Clarithromycin for 10 days... her throat seems to burn now when it hurts and her ear aches, she has been taking it for 3 days...

I had gotten 2-3 mouth ulcers about 3 weeks after my last exposure, but I felt sick a day after too, felt like a common cold and had a sore throat. I went into a walk in clinic and was given clarithromycin cause he thought i had strep throat which ended up giving me severe diarrhea 4 days into the treatment and I stopped taking it, but the day I stopped taking it i went and got checked for strep throat, gonorrhoea and chlamydia and all tests were negative.

The right tonsils is slightly enlarged and pus pockets/yellow-whitish granules are present at the right side of the throat. The pain spikes especially after I wake up from sleep. During the day sometimes I feel fatigued. Sometimes when I take long deep breaths I used to feel a slight difficulty in the center of the chest. I had unprotected oral sex about 3 months back. This is what has been worrying me. I did some STD tests..

It's been 6 days now. I have a very sore throat and my tonsils have swollen up. There are white patches on them too. I thought it was because some water got in my ear in shower, that I was having a monumental ear ache. But I went to an ENT, and he said I have an infection behind my ear-drum. And that it's because of a cold gone wrong. So then he prescribed Clarithromycin twice a day for a week. I have taken 2 tablets of the prescribed med, and my throat pain is worse than before.

The last two times that I gave him oral sex I broke out in the most painful blisters on my tonsils. I went to the Dr. because I thought that I had strep throat and the test came back as just a virus, however, I don't know what virus.

This relative recently went to the doctor complaining of a very bad soar throat. They received flu shots earlier this year, and no signs of strep throat seem visually present. I personally suspect a cold. If it is in fact viral, the doctor wants to use azithromycin now to prevent possible respiratory infection or bronchitis.

Two months later I had a fever and sore throat. I went to my doctor back in Missouri and the tests said it was Strep throat. Is Strep a symptom of HIV? Or could a viral infection be mistaken for strep? Also would a blood test after two months from sex session show a reliable result whether it is HIV or not?

My brother tested positive for strep throat today and I've been around him..they're supposed yo induce on Monday. If I am to come down with strep will they still induce? How soon will strep affect me if I've caught it? And is there anything I can do meanwhile to help fight any bacteria I've already been exposed to?

t swallow, eat, was running a 103* fever at its worst, was weak to my knees, and had white spots in the back of my throat. This was confirmed to be strep by a rapid test which was + for strep bacteria. I was given a Z pak, but when I was feeling worse a day after starting the regimen, I returned to the Dr. and was given an antibiotic injection and put on a steroid pack. 6 days after exposure to strep bacteria, and 3 days after becoming sick, I was fine again.

She said it was not possible oral swab to be done at that clinic (just genital). She decided to start a treatment (clarithromycin and ceftriaxone) for gonorrhea (without testing and diagnosis). I hope it works if I have oral gonorrhea. Sorry to bother you. I am just worried.

Hi everyone, recently I went to the doctor with a nasty sore throat that had started to get swollen and accumulate white spots. He tested me for strep and found that it was not that, and my lymph nodes are not swollen for it to be mono. He said it was a viral infection that should last about three to four days. Anyway, the next day, I performed oral sex on my boyfriend. The day after that, I realized the infection had gotten even worse (at least to me). Could this have exacerbated the problem?

Also of people get fever and feel really sick with a strep inection but sometimes all you have is a chronic sore throat. If you let a strep infection go for a long time without treatment it can make you seriously ill and could even kill you.That is rare but it does happen. Go to the doc. A simple exam and maybe a throat swab should reveal the cause of your sore throat. Good luck, hope you feel better.

I am constantly coughing because my normal saliva (or is it mucus) cannot drain down my throat due to the blockages caused by yelow or dark 'gunk' .... I have had x-rays ,scans and pathology test and am now on CLARITHROMYCIN but after a week there is no change... any thoughts.???

What you are describing sounds more like strep throat. Do you have a fever? Strep throat can be quite painful when swallowing and cause a general feeling of malaise, with whitish "dots" appearing in the back of your throat. If left untreated, strep throat can lead to other more serious complications. You should seek medical attention.

In fact, my son once got a staph infection in his throat that mimicked strep and thank God he was on antibiotics because they thought he had strep at first.
