biaxin xl and strep throat

I went to the clinic and the doctor thinks it is a type of strep throat. They gave me Biaxin XL and i started it today. I did not tell her about my situation from 3 weeks ago. With those symptoms, does this have any possible relation to HIV?

I went to the doctor and both the strep and mono tests came back negative. I only had a sore throat, the infection in my throat (white spots and pus pockets), tiredness (which I just thought was being tired) and an achy body (which I attributed to working out). The doctor determined that it was either strep throat and did not come up on the test, or it was just some other throat infection. He gave me a prescription for biaxin, 2x a day for ten days.

However, I was recently sick with sinus drainage and a brief sore throat, which is now gone but I went through a course of antibiotics (biaxin xl). I am now abroad, in Paris, and I have a thick white/brown coating on parts of my tongue. I am concerned that this is thrush and it is from HIV.

worse yesterday i noticed a small white patch on my tonsils which went away but reappeared on the back of my throat today; in the crevice that conects my nasal passage to my mouth: what are the chances its hiv i know oral thrush is pretty unique as far as symptoms go: if it was an infection why didnt the antibiotics clear it up i tested negative a few days shy of the 'week mark the worst part is that i recently started a study abroad program in paris and this is ruining my trip.

My doc perscribed Biaxin xl 2x 500 and prednisone 50mg 4 days if needed. Last night I was so bad I took the pred at 8pm. This morning I took the biaxin at 6am. It's been about 8 hours and my heart has sped up from about 70 to 85-90 for about an hour and won't come down. I'm afraid to take my next dose of prednisone but I've been on short bursts before with no issue. Is a resting heart rate around 90 something to be worried about?

It could most probably be tonsillitis and a throat infection. Throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, scratchiness in the throat, post nasal drip, malaise and loss of appetite are symptoms of tonsillitis. It can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics. Taking the antibiotic for the required amount of days may help to clear the infection. Steam inhalations and salt water gargles can help.

for the past 16 days I have had an extremely sore throat. it started off mild enough. dr put me on amoxil for 7 days. finished it up, by the time I finished it, my throat was worse. then i was prescribed biaxin xl for 10 days, today is day number 10 and the past 2 days i have felt like i'm swallowing razor blades (no exaggeration) when i swallow drink or eat, it's so painful. tylenol and naproxen are no longer working.

This past weekend it returned, this time with swollen glands!! The doctor took blood and did a throat culture, in case I had strep or mono. Neither was present. BUT he gave me a different antibiotic for the sinus infection called Biaxin, for acute sinusitis, which has been working wonders after one day on it. But I just read that Biaxin is given to HIV/AIDS patients for Mycobacterium avium complex!!!!

A significantly sore throat. My tonsils, tounge base and back of my throat were all sore but at different times in different areas of the throat. (it seemed to hop around a little but focused on my tonsils) Went to my GP who did a strep test but decided that most likely it was a virus due to several viruses going around. The doctor thought it was bronchitis and gave me biaxin to try and prevent pneumonia (I have an IgA deficiency and have had pneumonia 7 times and I'm 23, 4 cases in the past 3 years). Now it's almost a week later and the bronchitis is pretty much cleared up but I am STILL running a fever. Non-stop I have been running this low grade fever (99.5-101.4) for two and a half weeks. I have not gotten it to break at all (I've even tried ice packs).

They put me on Biaxin and told me to rest. I have been on Biaxin now for a little over two weeks and I am almost finished with the pills. My period was supposed to come on Nov. 28th or 29th and still hasn't showed up yet. I haven't had any pregnancy symptoms like spotting, breast tenderness, or sickness other than headaches that I usually get. The only time I had sex without a condom was on Sat.

Well this is what's weird about it: The lesions come and go. The drug is Biaxin XL. I've taken plain Biaxin before at least twice, but not this XL formulation. I've been wondering if maybe I'm allergic to some other part of the pill that's not the drug.

Both came back negative so the doctor diagnosed me as having Bacterial Pharyngitus and gave me Biaxin for it. But I keep reading on the internet that bacterial pharyngitus is a symptom of acute hiv infection, if strep and mono are ruled out!!!! I'm freaking out here.

allmy dr told me was that certin quinolones do give false positives. my med was biaxin xl 500mg. but that was all he would tell me. he seemed to be really busy. now i need to find out if that is one of the 13 quinolones. if you can assist me further please do so. or advize me where to search. thanks .

I have noticed every so often I will have a sore throat. It looks raw and unpleasant. Is it common to get sore throats? I thought maybe this was caused by the acid reflux going back into the throat??? Also I am on 5days of doing the prevpac and am wondering how long it takes to heal?

I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill. My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections???? Thank you.

Okay - I've seen this question asked a million places and a million different ways but none of the answers were the same and none of the questions were very much like my situation so I figured I'd give it a try (sorry if you've seen this a ton of times before!). My boyfriend is in the military and the last two times I've gone to visit him on base I have performed unprotected oral sex and gotten strep throat.

Two months later I had a fever and sore throat. I went to my doctor back in Missouri and the tests said it was Strep throat. Is Strep a symptom of HIV? Or could a viral infection be mistaken for strep? Also would a blood test after two months from sex session show a reliable result whether it is HIV or not?

My brother tested positive for strep throat today and I've been around him..they're supposed yo induce on Monday. If I am to come down with strep will they still induce? How soon will strep affect me if I've caught it? And is there anything I can do meanwhile to help fight any bacteria I've already been exposed to?

However, I went to a French doctor when I did still have the sore throat and he prescribed amoxicillin in powder form (despite me telling him about the biaxin xl I had previously been prescribed, which he wasn't familiar with because that is the commercial name), but also pointed out that i had a brown tongue due to a fungus and prescribed to me triflucan, an antifungal also in powder form. he attributed the brown tongue coating to the antibiotics that i had previously been taking.

Hi everyone, recently I went to the doctor with a nasty sore throat that had started to get swollen and accumulate white spots. He tested me for strep and found that it was not that, and my lymph nodes are not swollen for it to be mono. He said it was a viral infection that should last about three to four days. Anyway, the next day, I performed oral sex on my boyfriend. The day after that, I realized the infection had gotten even worse (at least to me). Could this have exacerbated the problem?
