This past weekend it returned, this time with swollen glands!! The doctor took blood and did a throat culture, in case I had strep or mono. Neither was present. BUT he gave me a different antibiotic for the sinus infection called Biaxin, for acute sinusitis, which has been working wonders after one day on it. But I just read that Biaxin is given to HIV/AIDS patients for Mycobacterium avium complex!!!!
I have been sick for four weeks now. It all started with strep throat. I was prescribed amoxicillin and I got better. Then, when I had just one dose left of the amoxicillin, I started to get sick again and they gave me the zpack (I've had problems before with recurrent strep). This one turned out to be a virus, but a week later I was still running a fever and went to the doctor.

My neck and head started throbbing about a week ago and I went into the doctor to see if I had strep for the third time in three monthes. The Strep test was negative so she believes I have mono and I just took a blood tests and dont have the results back. anyway, 3 days ago she gave me prednisone to help with the swelling along with biaxin. The prednisone helped my swollen tonsils, but the glands in my neck keep getting worse.
I never miss my birth control, I always take it that day and around the same time as long as I can (I never miss it, I just take it 5 hours later that usual). I also always use a condom when I have sex. The only time I don't use a condom is when I don't have one and my boyfriend always pulls out. Typically it is the second time around in an hr or so that we don't use a condom (if we run out).
I'm going to start my response by chastising you a bit. First, what in heaven's name were you doing getting sexually active with other men without first asking about their HIV status and sharing your own? Although the encounter remained safe, it is obvious it might not have stayed that way. For men who have sex with men, "do ask, do tell" (i.e.
t say it CURES it. I have never tried it when I knew I had strep, I just take it when I feel like I am getting it again. It might be a good thing to just take the Doc's advice if you have strep very bad. It can become a very serious condition and if it is very advanced it can cause heart problems. She was nice enough to speak with me at length and explained that it is the Biaxin which can cause that. Esp figuring that I did really well the first 5 days on the meds. I was a ton better.
I ate coleslaw a bunch when all this started so am thinking this could have to do with it? It's the only thing I can think of. I have generally dealt with a chronic to moderate scenario all my life, though recently been having acute attacks. Too much coffee I suppose.
2 weeks ago I had BV. Took vaginal antibiotics for that. That gave me a yeast infection, I'm taking Conesten for that, and now I come to find out I may have strep throat, i was given antibiotics for that. I'm not sure I want to take them. I feel like I've been pumping my self with meds, I dont want my baby so exposed to all these chemicals. Im thinking of just living with the strep, heal naturally, what would you do?
May I also ask what length of time would I take the Biaxin? And is there any home treatment, Like garlic pills etc. that would help augment healing? ( since Biaxin is not considered the best treatment.) Although I'm stuck with that. And frankly, I was on the Clindamycin for weeks and that didn't get rid of the infection, so maybe a broad spectrum antibiotic will work for me. I sure hope so. thank you again for your advice.
Well, like I said it could be the chronic sore throat cause by Fusobacterium as In my post. Some strep that cause strep throat can be resistant to Azithromycin. It depends on if they did a culture and antibiotic sensitivity test or threw an antibiotic at you. Which is what doctors tend to do. Most streps are still sensitive to penicillin though, but some strains have become resistant or not as sensitive anymore.
Throat always feels dry yet I have thick flem if I cough. Left ear also hurts. I have noticed a runny nose also and feel like i have a cold coming on. I have had these symptoms\pain off and on since exposure 6 weeks ago. Was worried so had doctor call in ammoxicillian approx 3 days after exposure. Told him I may have got strep from friend. 7 days worth. This did not help. Went to docs 2.5 weeks after exposure and she said throat looked OK but left inner ear looked grey.
Some girl I met told me she had strep throat and that it was causing her blisters on her mouth.... I didn't know strep throat did that and was thinking she coulda been lying and it was something else like herpes. Since last night I've been taking Tylenol for a very sore throat. Since I woke up today I was taking two every 6 hours as the label said, and I was supposed to take my third dose of the day (last one before I go to bed) about half an hour ago, but I can't remember whether I took it or not. Doc gave me 500mg pills twice a day for 5 days. and I took them for 3 days then stopped for 2 day then finished the last 2 days after cause I found out that I have to do all of them. Well I ha e sinus infections just about all my life and now it seems as though I have picked up another germ. It's strep throat I have had it for 5months I went to see eat nose and throat doctor every time I went I tested positive for it help me I've been on several different antibodies and it helplessly for a moment then it's back again what shall I do help please than you.
