I went to the doctor and both the strep and mono tests came back negative. I only had a sore throat, the infection in my throat (white spots and pus pockets), tiredness (which I just thought was being tired) and an achy body (which I attributed to working out). The doctor determined that it was either strep throat and did not come up on the test, or it was just some other throat infection. He gave me a prescription for biaxin, 2x a day for ten days.

It could most probably be tonsillitis and a throat infection. Throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, scratchiness in the throat, post nasal drip, malaise and loss of appetite are symptoms of tonsillitis. It can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics. Taking the antibiotic for the required amount of days may help to clear the infection. Steam inhalations and salt water gargles can help.

I went to the clinic and the doctor thinks it is a type of strep throat. They gave me Biaxin XL and i started it today. I did not tell her about my situation from 3 weeks ago. With those symptoms, does this have any possible relation to HIV?

They put me on Biaxin and told me to rest. I have been on Biaxin now for a little over two weeks and I am almost finished with the pills. My period was supposed to come on Nov. 28th or 29th and still hasn't showed up yet. I have noticed every so often I will have a sore throat. It looks raw and unpleasant. Is it common to get sore throats? I thought maybe this was caused by the acid reflux going back into the throat??? Also I am on 5days of doing the prevpac and am wondering how long it takes to heal?

I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill. My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections???? Thank you.

Okay - I've seen this question asked a million places and a million different ways but none of the answers were the same and none of the questions were very much like my situation so I figured I'd give it a try (sorry if you've seen this a ton of times before!). Hi everyone, recently I went to the doctor with a nasty sore throat that had started to get swollen and accumulate white spots. He tested me for strep and found that it was not that, and my lymph nodes are not swollen for it to be mono. He said it was a viral infection that should last about three to four days. Anyway, the next day, I performed oral sex on my boyfriend. The day after that, I realized the infection had gotten even worse (at least to me). Could this have exacerbated the problem?

Also of people get fever and feel really sick with a strep inection but sometimes all you have is a chronic sore throat. If you let a strep infection go for a long time without treatment it can make you seriously ill and could even kill you.That is rare but it does happen. Go to the doc. A simple exam and maybe a throat swab should reveal the cause of your sore throat. Good luck, hope you feel better.

What you are describing sounds more like strep throat. Do you have a fever? Strep throat can be quite painful when swallowing and cause a general feeling of malaise, with whitish "dots" appearing in the back of your throat. If left untreated, strep throat can lead to other more serious complications. You should seek medical attention.

In fact, my son once got a staph infection in his throat that mimicked strep and thank God he was on antibiotics because they thought he had strep at first.
