I went to the doctor and both the strep and mono tests came back negative. I only had a sore throat, the infection in my throat (white spots and pus pockets), tiredness (which I just thought was being tired) and an achy body (which I attributed to working out). The doctor determined that it was either strep throat and did not come up on the test, or it was just some other throat infection. He gave me a prescription for biaxin, 2x a day for ten days.

Ok, I'm a healthy white female who had regular unprotected sex with the same person (who reassured me over and over he is negative) since last october. The last time was on February 3rd. On february 16th I had fatigue, coughing, runny nose, and was diagnosed with a sinus infection. I was given antibiotics for it and I thought it went away. This past weekend it returned, this time with swollen glands!! The doctor took blood and did a throat culture, in case I had strep or mono.

I had a tonsillectomy when I was just a child. Today the pain is directly below the larynx. I have an appointment with the ear/nose/throat doctor but not until April. I went to the clinic and the doctor thinks it is a type of strep throat. They gave me Biaxin XL and i started it today. I did not tell her about my situation from 3 weeks ago. With those symptoms, does this have any possible relation to HIV?

anyway, 3 days ago she gave me prednisone to help with the swelling along with biaxin. The prednisone helped my swollen tonsils, but the glands in my neck keep getting worse. No ibuprofen helps the pain of it, which is causing me a lack of sleep. Is there anything else I have possibly overlooked? I'm not exhausted all the time at all. my entire neck is killing me and behind my ears and head, occasionaly my jaw and armpits too.

They put me on Biaxin and told me to rest. I have been on Biaxin now for a little over two weeks and I am almost finished with the pills. My period was supposed to come on Nov. 28th or 29th and still hasn't showed up yet. Usually they treat strep throat with antibiotics . If you went to the doctor and they said that what you had , they should gave you a prescription . At home gargle salt water , drink tea and honey . Rubbing Vicks on your neck it might help and take Tylenol if your in pain .

And strep is notoriously resistant. They now use higher doses of things and antibiotics have additive agents to help them stay potent in killing the bacteria. t seen it after a strep throat. Sore throats can often be caused aby viruses and not strep. With a strep throat you usually get a high fever. Sometimes you can also get swollen lymph nodes under the neck. You don't always get pus (white spots on the tonsils or back of the throat) but you usually do. Strep throat can become serious so they do have to watch you. Sometimes it does go away on its own. I would definitely get the swab done.

the doctor give me a week ago 3 injections ceftraxone (to kill the strep) , and took aciclovir 1600mg per day(to treat theherpes). the tonsils are not that swollen now, after these injections, but i have kind of swollen theneck, i dont have bean shaped things, i have the left side of the neck swollen. and i have sores on my tonsils, they are very red, and tiny veryyyy tiny dots like 3, on my gums. i can eat and drink and swallow saliva, but the saliva production increased idk why.

Hi, the symptoms described could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.

But I still have not been told by any doctor that an antibiotic is not neccessary for strep throat. They all seem to think there is no other cure. I tend to trust my doctor.

In addition to what JGF25 said Group B strep is a type of strep called Streptococcus agalactiae. It also can cause a sore throat and other infections but is most commonly worried about because of its problems in child birth. If you are positive they will treat you during delivery or just before having the baby because of the risk of infecting the baby if you have the bacteria. So they will check a few times to see if you carry the bacteria. If you do they will treat you with antibiotics.

You have to take antibiotics to treat strep it doesn't go away on its own. I had strep a couple years ago and didn't go to the doctor. I thought it got better but the strep actually spread to my blood stream and I had to take antibiotics for months.
